Motorcycle Body Armor & Protection
Most riders know that protection is the most important safety aspect of motorcycle riding. RevZilla carries a variety of protection and armor from numerous manufacturers. In protective vests and jackets, most back armor will feature CE Level 2-rated protection. We also have replacement knee sliders, shoulder armor, back pads and hip armor. If you're having trouble choosing between the various pieces of armor protection that we carry at RevZilla, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
"CE-rated" means the armor (in your jacket, pants, etc.) has been tested and certified to meet a specific European safety standard. It's a guarantee that the armor will absorb and disperse impact energy as promised. CE Level 1 is the standard, and CE Level 2 is the more protective (and often thicker) option, absorbing about twice the impact force. Learn more about CE ratings here.
Do I need a separate back protector?
Yes, we highly recommend buying a separate back protector. The foam "pad" that comes in the back of most jackets is just a placeholder and offers almost no impact protection. A real, CE-rated back protector (either an insert or a full "strap-on" style) is the most important piece of armor you can wear to protect your spine.
What's the difference between armor and abrasion resistance?
This is a very important distinction! Abrasion resistance (from leather or textile) is what saves your skin in a slide. Impact armor (the hard or soft "pads" at your joints) is what saves your bones in a tumble. You absolutely need both: a tough outer shell to slide and armor underneath to take the hit.
Are armored "base layers" a good option?
Yes, armored base layers (like a shirt or pants with all the armor built-in) are a great and versatile option. They hold the armor perfectly in place, right against your body. This allows you to wear any "outer" shell you want over top.
