REV'IT Dominator Gore-Tex Jacket

In developing the REVIT Dominator Jacket, REV'IT! has taken the Engineered Skin design philosophy to the next level. Based on feedback from off-road veterans and RTW travelers they have created the most functional jacket in the history of REV'IT. This jacket knows no limitations and is positioned just above the Poseidon GTX jacket. The Dominator Jacket is prepared for the Adventure Neck Brace, Challenger Cooling Vest, Vest Connector HV and is equipped with a detachable kidney belt, VCS aquadefence and the brand new SEEFLEX CE-level 2 protectors. The sheer storage space alone is incredible, and an indication that this jacket is ready for adventure.

Note: The REV'IT Dominator Gore-Tex Jacket tends to run small and we suggest you go one size up if you are between sizes.

Expensive, but worth it. Excellent fit and quality.
I bought this jacket (and pants) to wear as true, four-season, all weather riding gear. I had it shipped to me while at this year's Overland Expo East, and the torrential rains brought by Hurricane Joaquin gave me the chance to put it to the test.

The excellent quality, style, and functionality, and fit are classic Rev'It. Every feature is well-designed and thought out. There is nothing extraneous. The jacket kept me bone dry and comfortable while riding through torrential rains. I never took it off during the Expo, wearing it all day long during the rain. It's quite comfortable, especially considering all of the armor. Even though it's Gore Tex, the fabric seems so much more flexible than other Gore-Tex gear that I have owned.

After riding in the rain for a few days off and on-road around Asheville, NC, I made my way home, a 660 mile ride. The day started out at 58 degrees with a light mist. I was warm and dry with all vents closed and just a long-sleeve 200-weight merino wool shirt on underneath. As the sun came out and the temperature rose, I simply opened the vents on the fly, first the two large chest vents. These are incredibly easy to open and lock into place, even with gloves on. Five hours into the ride the temperature had risen to 86 degrees, I had all vents open including the rear vents, which really pull the heat out. Even at 86 degrees and stuck in traffic, the jacket was not uncomfortable. I love the convenience and efficiency of not having to stop and put on/take off rain gear when the weather changes, or in this case, not even having to bother with zip-in rain liners.

I am 5' 11" and weigh 170 pounds, with a slim athletic build. I don't like oversized anything, especially riding gear. Billowing around like a plastic bag is not only annoying, but if the armor doesn't stay in the right places, it won't provide much protection, if any, during a crash. I usually wear a size Medium, but like my Cayenne Pro gear I bought a Medium in the pants and Large in the jacket. The Medium Cayenne was just a bit too snug, and I suspected this would be the case with the Dominator GTX as well. The Large fits me very comfortably, allows just enough room for an extra layer, without being baggy or box-cut looking and does not billow in the wind at all. The adjustment straps also allow me to tighten up the jacket if need be.

The jacket features Rev'It's built in kidney belt, and has many well-placed pockets on the outside and inside, including a large rear storage pocket. I bought it in the lighter color, along with the pants, since I like visibility. It's a good-looking, comfortable, and protective jacket that I'm sure will provide years of use.

Like the title says, it's expensive but worth it. There is no bad weather, only bad gear, and there is nothing worse than having to waste riding time dealing with poor- or non-functioning gear.

excellent
I have used this jacket for the past 2 months, covering end of winter into a humid spring.
Upgraded from a defender, the cut/fit of the new jackets is definitely better.
The jacket feels great on , stiff more like a leather jacket although like leather it should soften with wear. The armor is excellent and very encompassing
The airflow on this jacket is excellent. Its not mesh jacket airflow, but its enough to be comfortable on my multistrada into the low 30's Celsius. Not something to wear around off the bike if it gets to warm though.
Weather proofing seems good, although have yet to put it to a full day torrential rain test.

Fit wise I am 6'2'' 210lb solid build, and while I could wear an xl I ended up going with a 2xl because I found the xl just a bit to tight across the shoulders and a little short in the arms.(I wear long sized pants as well)

Very Close to KLIM Badlands
EOD HEAVY with Goretex Pro, Armacor, and Tailsman ceramic. Trimmer fit than Badlands so go size up if your close to in between fit. Badlands L fits me great and allows for thin base & midlayer, Dominator in XL fits spot on with one base layer. Kidney belt helps distribute weight, plenty of vents & strap adjustments.
They need to move the collar tab retaining hook about another couple-few centimeters toward the back.
Other then that what a beautiful Jacket!

You feel armored and comfortable with this jacket. I use it as a copilot in a warm weather and the vents help a lot with the cooling besides I'm sitted on the back of the bike.

All you may need
I`ve chosen these jacket for many reasons:

Style, I think that these is the beautiful "premium adventure jacket" ever, if you compare it to Klim or Rukka for example.

Protection: CE level 2 everywhere, the new Seeflex protection are a step forward than old SasTec of my ex Defender GTX. And you also have Armacore and Talisman fabrics to ensure security and durability.

Confort: It is confortable, but a little stiff, at least at the first times. An important tip is to use the belt, it gives to the jacket extra support and feels lighter, giving you more freedom of movement.

Ventilation: it's amazing!!! for a 3 seasons jacket.

Finish: is not so excellent as I remember in my old Defender, I found the fidlock alignment not perfect, but it dos't affect functionality.

Microvelcro is not everywhere, just in front zipper, pockets and cuffs are normal velcro

Flexisnap do not work very well, it tends to expand just because the stiffness, it may change with the use...

Anyway I'll recommend these product, it feels bombproof!!! and looks great!!!

Extremely Versatile
I rode with this jacket for about 7 months. I ride daily, rain or shine, and this jacket took about two weeks to fully break in. It is incredibley comfortable, and the versatility is impressive.

I rode in temperatures north of 100 degrees, and in the mid 20s. The jacket was fine in the heat even without a cooling vest (though Rev'it does make one for this model), and I started using base layers below 45 degrees. I am also a big fan of the connector HiVis vest for this jacket. It certainly helped, and I think it saved me from getting pulled over a couple of times (being profiled as an older WASP is a big plus).

The waterproofing is flawless (along with the other Rev'it Dominator GTX lineup).

I recently has a low side in the rain on this jacket. I was going about 35 mph, and I hit my right arm first on the way down. The CE level two pad completely soaked the blow. I was not sore at all, and the jacket held up without wearing through from the slide.

If you have the money, then this jacket seems like a great investment.

Feature packed, refined but could improve
This is my 3rd year in the Dominator jacket. I ride with this and the new dominator 2 pants all year in the PNW. The ventilation is impressive and the rain protection over weeklong trips in nonstop wet/raining conditions is superb. I've even tolerated Texas in 102 heat while riding up to Oregon and wore this w the vents open. When Harley guys scoffed at me at the gas station in Denver for wearing GTX in the summer, I smiled as I passed them waiting out the flash storms under bridges or elsewhere because I can keep going. A couple zips and no big deal when you need to stay on schedule. 3 hours out of Amarillo Texas in July and I ran straight into a storm in the middle of nowhere. It happens all the time so I dress prepared. For as burly a jacket as this is, venting is pretty good, but relatively limited compared to an airwave etc.
A few major complaints:
1: the neck flap design is great on paper but sucks in real life. Adjustments don't stay put and the hook and loop open/ venting position never remains secure for long. Klim figured this one out with a simple snap button and I wish Revit had done the same.
2: the Velcro on the large lumbar pocket chews away the sleeves every time you reach back to use the pocket. I've trimmed what looks like furry wrists after every ride and now only use the pocket for things I rarely need. Shame.
3: torso adjustment buckles slip within an hour of riding. Kind of useles. A legit triglide buckle would easily improve this. A $1.50 upgrade.
All these things are probably common across the revit line... I've seen similar design on other revit jackets.
That being said, for my size 6'2" 178lbs and wanting 3 layer GTX for massive condition changes over the course of a trip, this one fit the bill compared to competing brands. Also of note, the original dominator pants were a better fit and includes a cargo pocket but didn't have vents. Vents trumped the previous edition but if you're looking for wet season pants on a killer deal, those were awesome (L tall for me 32 pane size).

Good jacket but it could be better
It's an overall great jacket but it should be compatible with a hydration bladder (it's not). In my opinion that is essential for an adventure jacket. Plus, I would love to see some chest protection like klim badlands and adventure.

Bombproof, but not a perfect fit
Not a long term review, but initial impressions.

This jacket has a considerable heft to it - easily the heaviest jacket of any kind that I own. Wearing it, you feel incredibly protected. It's obvious from the detailed video that this is a serious piece of kit with amazing features, and I can fully confirm it. It's up there with Klim and Rukka for sure, but with a tad better style IMHO.

That said, it's probably overkill for most riders. I bought it mostly because I don't want to own a huge array of gear, and I don't like dealing with liners. But after receiving it, I'm starting to doubt if I'd use it for everyday riding as opposed to for touring and nasty weather.

Once it's all strapped in and in place, you don't really notice the weight much, especially in an upright touring position. The jacket has not yet broken in fully, but I imagine you'd have to be getting up to some pretty gnarly riding to take this jacket out in extreme heat.

I found the sizing not to be as "trim" as reviewers across the web have said.

I'm 5'8" 188lbs 41.5" chest 36.5" waist and 22/23" sleeve length. Average-short build with a respectable belly.

With only a base layer on and all the adjustment straps fully tightened, I think the fit is pretty good. There's a little extra room but it's not boxy. With a light down puffer vest and all straps fully tightened, the fight was perfectly snug. But I don't think I'd have reason to loosen the adjusters, which makes me wonder if I should have sized down, as the measurements posted online don't seem entirely accurate. I suspect that a Medium would be too snug, but the arms would probably be the right length.

The sleeves are annoyingly long for my shorter arms. at about 25" from shoulder seam to cuff, with some adjustment for armor, I recon the sleeves are about 1.5" longer than I need. That means that in order to wear this, gloves will have to go under the sleeves.

This is an intricately crafted piece, and there's only one company in the world I'd trust to perform alterations on it - Rainy Pass in Seattle. They are miracle workers with Gore Tex gear. But for something of this level, you'd probably have to shell out a few benjamins and go in person for a fitting.

The other thing to note is the collar. It will not fasten tightly around your neck in even the tightest setting. That's probably fine, as you'd no doubt have a high-collar mid layer for that in cooler weather. However, the little elastic tab you can hook back to keep the collar open doesn't hold in place very well at all. I'll update the review if this changes after break-in, but I think the collar will probably either be snapped shut or flapping in the wind.

Which REV'IT pants *with vents* (apparently Dominator does not which is a deal breaker) would compliment this jacket? I'm interested in this light grey color. Do other REV'IT pants in Grey match? Do they use the same zipper size?
A shopper on Jun 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Poseidon GTX pants have vents. A REV’IT! employee told me that the zippers on the Dominator and Poseidon are a match. You are able to interchange both jacket and pants. The textile colors are a match, though there maybe some accent color differences.  I believe the Poseidon trousers have a little red accent color, where the Dominator does not.  But the Silver and black textile material do match.
I’m interested in buying the new Rev’it dominator GTX jacket, however my size falls between size Large and X-Large (Waist: 46.5’’). Could you please help in choosing the right fit for me? Unfortunately I cannot benefit from the restocking option as im currently outside the states and one of my friends will carry my jacket.
A shopper on Jun 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If you're in between sizes, go up. This is a more fitted euro style with plenty of highly adjustability features to reduce any bagginess. I'm 6'2" 180 lb and Large fits spot on.

Would you say the dominator is the SAME fit as the 2016 cayenne pro?

I have the cayenne pro suit and love it. I wear an XL jacket and a L Short Pant. Should I order the same sizes?
motech on Jul 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Buy it! Return it to Revzilla if it doesn't fit.. Can't speak to the pants.. The 2016 Cayenne pro jacket appears to fit a bit less formally than the Dominator GTX. The Dominator is a bit stiff until broken in and seems to hold a shape more than the Cayenne pro. My understanding is that the Dominator is designed to support the posture of the rider during long enduro type adventures. I enjoy this feature and love the jacket, but have some ideas for revisions. For example, the material of the cuff could be changed to prevent fraying do contact with the velcro on gloves, and other abrasive wear like rubbing against a table or counter during a pit-stop. That is a cosmetic gripe really. The Hi-Vis Vest could connect differently in the chest to prevent its bunching-there is a weird interface with the velcro on the chest vents when open and the hi-viz vest.. Also, the loop used to secure the collar when the collar is open and folded back could be tighter to prevent the folded back collar from becoming unlatched. Typically this is not a problem when riding, but it is an annoyance to have to re-secure the collar each time the jacket is put on. I can report that after falling in the jacket the ceramic grinds off pretty quickly. Other than that the jacket felt very protective! I still believe it is the best textile jacket available.
I am a 50 chest in the US I am 6'4" and 265 lbs I am interested in the Dominator G
TX Jacket. Can you recommend a size for me?
A shopper on Jan 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You should use the convert cm to inches under the size chart, which shows you would be either a 4XL or possibly 5XL for the chest size. I ended up purchasing for the third time since normally my husband would be a Large, but we had to order a 2XL for 44-46 size chest.
Will this ever be available in size SM?
