Super Burly!
Wow, this is just a great jacket! It is pricey, but well worth the investment. The fit is spot on and it looks great. Klim simply makes the best gear!

Carlsbad Jacket / pants is a Winner
I also bought the Carlsbad jacket recently. I have worn is 30 degree and 113 degrees with NO issues. Worn in sand, dirt, wind and rain with NO discomfort. If it Only had collar hooks for both side like they offer in their Altitude touring version as this would allow more air to flow into chest area. I find that the air flow up the arms from the wrists is best to keep cooling. I don'f feel the air flow from the sleeve vents as they don't seem to be open enough while riding.. Pockets are great design, easy to access and you can really stuff them. Also in Sizing, the armholes are a little small, so I had to go with an Extra Large so when I reach the handlebars, the jacket is not pulling.

Great piece but go look at the color if possible
First off, the "grey" color is not even close to what it looks like in the pics. It is a dull, nearly brown grey that looks NOTHING like the pictures. In the pics it looks like the Latitude grey, in person its more like the brown Carlsbad.
With that said the fit of this jacket is awesome! I was looking for a jacket and pants that I could wear as close to year round as possible. I was torn between the Latitude and this. The fit of the Carlsbad is far superior to the Latitude. The Latitude has really long sleeves and feels much heavier. I know Latitude has more vents but that has to be weighed against the fact it has heavier cordura material and leather (heavier/ less breathable) on the shoulders and arms. Although, I do think it funny that a coat called the Carlsbad (hot as hell place) has less vents than a touring jacket. I rode with this today in 90 degree California weather and while moving, was suprisingly comfortable considering the heat. Was I cool? No. Was I roasting? No. This is not intended to be a deep summer jacket but I wanted to see how it would perform in this heat and I must say I am impressed. Keep in mind I bought this to be for touring use only, no off road. I know it doesn't have the top of the line D30 armor but compared to most other coats out there its level 1 is still better than their foam crap. Ill try to update as the season goes on. BTW I'm 6' 190 with an athletic build and I went with Large. The medium fit near perfect but I would not have been all to layer anything underneath when it got cold. Remember, this is just a shell.
In the pants I did the 34 reg. which are also just about perfect. I have room to go out and a little in. The 36 had me taking in quite a bit on the elastic. I generally wear a 36 jean but they run loose because 34 is usually too small. Im almost always in between 34/36 on jeans. Hope this helps, be safe.

The Baggy Look - from KLIM
I do not own this jacket! I have been in the market for a 3/4 season ADV jacket (30% off/70%On) to allow me ride my R1200GS in cooler weather. I love the technical details and the very high quality fabrics and armor that KLIM uses, but this 2018 Carlsbad and the 2018 Badlands jackets are just plain baggy looking! There is no cinch belt to bring in the waist so the "in shape" wearer looks 30 pounds heavier than he really is. Wrong! Are all those gym workouts for nothing?

Fits great, waterproof.....but that's all.
After dreaming of owning Klim gear I finally bought the Carlsbad Jacket and Pant for one ride. A tough 7200 mile 24 day ride which included the full TAT and more. This gear has seen it all. The gear did its job but isn't flawless by any means. My first day out I noticed the cuffs on the jacket started to fray badly. Not a bid deal but I don't have a lot of confidence that it will hold up for years of use. The neck, even though loose, was chaffing my throat for the first 4 or 5 days After it broke in a bit it seems to be ok now. I rode from 30 degrees to 100 degrees (some times all in one day). The venting on this jacket is terrible. I couldn't really tell the difference between open or closed. The sleeve vents seem like a smart idea but the reality (for me anyway) is that they are are not positioned correctly. They never caught the wind. Also the zippers on the sleeve vents are almost impossible to operate. I had to take the jacket off in order to zip up the vents. Opening them is fairly easy but if you get caught in a downpour and want to quickly zip up...forget it. Now..for the good. The fit of this jacket is excellent, I barely felt like I was wearing it. Its very comfortable. Weather protection is excellent as well. I never got wet, no matter how hard it rained. I even kept a $800 camera in the chest pocket and it never got wet or dusty. After hearing how awesome Klim gear is and finally getting some, I have to say I am pretty disappointed.

Comfortable and good looking
The ventilation (6 vents) is the best feature. Comfortable in the upper 80s with a tee shirt underneath and all zips open. If the weather turns cold-wet just zip it up and add a layer underneath. I immediately upgraded all the armor to level 2. Never know when a crash will happen. The jacket is not nearly as stiff and heavy as my Badlands Pro (2012). I like that KLIM has toned down the branding. I took a black Sharpie to the Pro before I wore it. I am waiting for the grey pants to come back in stock

Great product but pricey
I felt I had to pay a premium to get the protection I need but I can't help but wonder does the cost of the material really justify the cost? Sometimes we as consumers forget the power we have, me included. If nobody bought $100 tennis shoes then there wouldn't be $100 tennis shoes.

I'll step off the soap box now and say I bought the next size up from what I normally would so I would have plenty room for layering. To help justify the expense I'm hoping to use it as a shell for snowmobiling as well.

Thanks to Revzilla for a great return policy which allowed sending both sizes so I could make a side by side comparison and keep the best fit.

So far so good
I live out in the boonies of NM so I bought both the Badlands and the Carlsbad so I could compare them. I ride dual sport mostly off road. Only ride on the road to get to the dirt and several times a year on longer adventure type rides. I currently use a WR250R that I have "adventerized."

As Spurgeon said in his review, my feeling is that the Badlands is too stiff and heavy if you are primarily riding off road on a very capable dirt bike. I do a lot of really rocky and gnarly trails and I think the Badlands would be too restrictive.

The Carlsbad is much lighter and the fabric is much more flexible. I like the fit. Still too early in the season to tell how it vents. I did swap the level 2 DMO armor from the Badlands to the Carlsbad.....and then decided to purchase the level 2. I will use the Level 1 for my old Olympia Airglide.

Interestingly, I thought the Badlands jacket was too long in the arms (Carlsbad was perfect). Both jackets were a large. Also, I got 34 pants which was great with the Carlsbad allowing adequate room for layers as necessary. However, the Badlands was smaller and the waist was not big enough.

Clearly the Badlands would be better for taking a big spill, especially on the road. However, I think the Carlsbad will be adequate on the road, especially with the Level 2 armor. For off road and flexibility, Carlsbad all the way.

I got the new brown color jacket and silver pants. Really looks sharp together.

Nice Jacket
Spurgeon mentioned in his video review that it solves many of the problems with the Latitude jacket for off road use, That is a true statement in my opinion having owned the Latitude. The fit I must say is a bit tricky since I am in between sizes. I wore a Medium in the Latitude and it was spot-on due to the boxier cut and two adjustments (waist cinching and side expansion gussets). This allowed a myriad of adjustments for layering. Not so with the Carlsbad. The size medium fit the arm/shoulder perfectly however if you have a bigger gut, it will be snug - especially layering. I tried the size large however it was huge in the arm length and shoulder but the waist was great. IMHO the sizing is similar to the Badlands ( I could never get a good fit). Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and of course, Revzilla is the best. Fast shipping and excellent exchange program.

True US Fit 3XL
I have been looking for adventure Pants and Jacket but all the Local retail stores have not had any jackets which Fit me. I am a true 3XL person. Most of the 3XL jackets are too small. The 3XL jacket they had were too small. The 4XL almost fit, but all the gear in the jacket was not in the correct place for Protection. I could not snap the neck collar closed.

Do to the excellent Return Policy at RevZilla I pulled the trigger to order the Carlsbad Jacket and Pants. 3XL jacket and 42' Pants.

They fit Perfect True to the US sizing. All the protective gear in the jacket is in place and Functional. Collar around the neck fit perfect and comfortable.
