Decent jacket, lacking in durability
Was fairly impressed by this jacket upon purchase. Got was good, seemed protective and durable, and the styling was decent. Overall, thought I was a good jacket for the price.

Unfortunately, I had a ~30 mph lowside and the stitching on the elbow simply popped open, resulting in a minor bit of rash on my elbow. The material didn't appear to abrade through, the stitches just didn't hold.

Commuter/weekend jacket
Had this jacket for a few months now and mostly used for commuting to work with some occasional long weekend rides.

Pros:
I personally like the look. The reflective stripes/piping work well at night even for a black jacket
The zip-out liner and thermal vest barely affect fit when removed vs. installed.
No problem with flexiblity in upright riding position.
Comfortable in upper 90 degree weather as long as I'm moving . I'd get a bit sweaty in the back pad area so I removed it to breathe better.

Cons:
The collar rides a bit high for my liking and sometimes gets in the way when turning my head. I have a large head/shoulders so YMMV.

First jacket, so far very pleased
I am a new rider, got this jacket at the local bike shop, so far very pleased with it.
I live in southwest Florida and started riding in September, you can imagine it was still pretty hot here, as long as I was moving - no problem with the heat - great ventilation.
The jacket feels pretty sturdy, has armor everywhere , so hopefully will keep someone protected in case of a fall.
It runs a little large imo , all my clothes are medium , but I got the jacket in S , the sleeves of a medium would have been too long ( i am 5'9 ).
Overall I feel I made a good purchase, I wear it every time I ride, since I am still worried about accidents , as a new rider. Do not regret spending the money on it at all.

Excellent jacket, especially for the price point!
I recently had the need to "upgrade" from my Teknic Supervent Mesh, which I bought in 2013. The Teknic is a fantastic jacket, however I lost over 40 lbs. and therefore was swimming in it. I happened upon the GX Sport Air 4.0, which wasn't even among my top search items. I was previously eyeing a couple of mesh offerings from Rev'It!, however I'm glad I went with the Cortech.

This jacket fits great, and has a TON of features for the money. TWO liners, which are both removable, are top on the list. The Rev'It! didn't have any. One nice thing about these particular liners is that the snaps/straps are color-coded, so you know which ones attach where. White and grey, as memory serves. This sounds silly, but is actually a clever and nice thought which saves a bit of frustration!

One downside is that the jacket does NOT have a belt loop (though may have a zipper for Cortech pants, I'm not sure). My Teknic did have a loop, which was great for jeans with a belt. However, the "tail" of the jacket is quite long, which makes up for it. If your jeans tend to ride down a bit, this has you...er, covered. :-)

Air flow is good, but not as spectacular as my Teknic was. I believe Cortech added a lot of abrasion resistance to the 4.0 versus its predecessors however, so though that may be a "lost star" in comfort, it's made up in safety. So, whichever your preference.

I picked the black/hi-viz version, The only real downside being that my current helmet and gloves don't match, but I'm not all about the style points! The hi-viz is definitely visible. The overall design of the jacket isn't my favorite - I preferred the Rev'It! offerings honestly - but still a 4/5. Not ugly, just not as nice.

I find it to be as comfortable as a motorcycle jacket can be, I suppose - snug in all the right ways, but I can still move without doing my best movie Batman impression.

Regarding fit, I'm 5'11" and (newly) 185 lbs, with a bit of a gut and the medium is good for me.

Overall this is a high-quality, oft-overlooked jacket that should be given more credit. Cortech isn't a top-tier name, but I think that allows them to throw in extra features for less money, and cater to people who are looking for just that... yet without sacrificing quality. Perhaps it wouldn't fare as well in a slide as something like a Rev'It! or Dainese, but hopefully I won't have to find out! In the meantime, it certainly seems as if it would.

Happy hunting!

return to Cortech
My first jacket was the GX Sport Air 3.0 in blue and I loved it but it did not fit me properly, I did not know how snug it should fit and bought an XXL which was too large. I then bought a Scorpion Hat Trick II XL which has some good features like full sleeve thermal liner and cuff zippers but lacks the interior pockets of Cortech and has a higher collar that rubs my neck. Based on the video review of this jacket and the fact that I have lost 20 lbs, I ordered the Large but I still needed it to be about 2 inches larger especially around the waist liner where it zips. Now 200 lbs, 5' 10" and my chest is around 42-43 inches and the XL fit me much better. Added the Klim D30 Viper CE Level 2 back pad upgrade too.

Great jacket !!!
I've had this jacket for about 2mos, well worth the $$$
great 3 season jacket, wore it on a 4 state covered bridge tour it was cool in the a:m had a thin fleece under it till it warmed up, removed the fleece & liner's just wore the jacket for the rest of the day & I was fine w/ just the mesh..
Very comfortable, a true to size fit..
Easily stores in tour pack on the GL1800, unlike some mesh & armor jackets, you can't roll/ fold up because the armor is too ridgid.
A worth while purchase..

My new Cortech
My old GX Air Series 2 is getting a bit ragged, so I decided to upgrade to the newer model. The updated look is superb, the pockets are excellent, the zippers work well. I think the older jacket came with a full-sleeved thermal liner and this one comes with a vest, but it still has the full rain liner. There's a ton of reflective material too. This jacket's look, construction, and features are far above the price point.

The only downside is airflow. The old Series 2 was made entirely of mesh, other than the leather shoulder, elbow, and back areas. That jacket flowed a ton of air. The 4.0 has 600 denier panels on the top of the arms and around the sides of the jacket. While I'm sure that this makes the 4.0 much more protective in the event of an off, airflow suffers. On my KLR or Night Train, it's not a big deal. On my Road Glide with it's big fairing, it gets hot when it's in the 90s. With that said, you want to limit airflow to the skin when it gets above 93 anyway, so it's not a deal-killer.

As far as fit, I'm 6'2", 190 pounds and a Large fits me just about perfect. I've got some room in the torso (I'm neither big-gutted or barrel-chested), but the sleeve length and overall length are perfect.

This jacket saved my skin and impact protection
Unfortunately got into an accident on the freeway going 40mph plus. Car pulled into my lane and pushed me into the security wall. Bike fell and I slid for about 20 to 30ft. Jacket protection it amazing, didn’t feel a thing from the impact to the slide. Definitely recommend this jacket. Jacket is very comfortable, I dislike the puppet feel of wearing a sport jacket but this one is definitely comfortable. I live in socal and the summers get pretty hot. In 100 degree weather plus the jacket kept me cool, a little sweat when standing still for too long. Can’t say enough about this jacket. Will be purchasing another one once I get a new bike.

A perfect fit.
Jacket has been great in 45 to 90 degree weather. I also like the rain liner which works great as it was tested in yesterday's 1 hour commute in the rain. I would of liked better armor but for the price I paid $189.00 (revzilla was nice enough to price match) I really can't complain.

BEST ANSWER: The Klim D3O Viper T5 Pro Back Protector fits in the Cortech jacket pocket. It's slightly different shape, but the pocket stretches enough to fit. No trimming necessary.
