Best in show
I'm a technophile. I've used a half dozen different communicators over the years. Prior to getting the Packtalk Slim, I was using a Sena 20S. Sena has been the industry leader for a while now, so I'll write this review in terms of Sena's product.

First and foremost, the size of this thing is incredible. The 20S felt like a second helmet on my helmet. The PTSlim is low-profile and entirely unobtrusive. You have to install the rear battery piece correctly. If it isn't seated all the way down, it'll dig into the back of your neck and is fantastically painful.

The sound quality is night-and-day. I use some good-quality helmet speakers, and when you plug external speakers into Sena units, you get a loud, constant electrical hum. The PTSlim is so comparatively silent when it's not making sound that I keep forgetting that I've already turned it on.

The voice commands are a great feature. Yes, Sena supports voice commands, but the interface is absolutely terrible. The PTSlim voice command system is much better, but isn't perfect. The system has a hard time differentiating between "Music on" and "Mute audio," and doesn't support any better variants like "Music start." If you have an accent or a speech impediment, don't expect to use the voice commands at all.

The PTSlim pairs with two bluetooth devices. Sena devices can pair with three, and then layer them appropriately. I pair with my phone and an audio player (New Mexico's cell reception is too poor to play music from the phone), and as a result I can't get audio instructions from my GPS. Side note: if you do my setup (phone + audio player), you must pair the audio player as a GPS device.

The PTSlim is IP67 rated, which is great except that I got caught in a thunderstorm on my second day of ownership, and the unit died. I can't attest to its waterproofness, but Cardo replaced the unit for me immediately (their customer service is outstanding!).

The buttons are impossible to feel with gloves on. If you don't plan on using the voice commands, get the Bold model.

The only thing I can't review is the actual intercom feature, because I have no friends.

For its sound quality, ease of use, low profile, and customer service, I have absolutely no hesitation recommending that all Sena users immediately switch to the PTSlim unless you absolutely need 3 bluetooth devices or you're really into electrical hum.

The best bluetooth out there
The Cardo slim is awesome it's nice not having a bulky unit on the side of my helmet. Especially since I got the new AGV Sportmodular helmet. My only complaint is it is hard to link up with a non-Cardo bluetooth unit, the instructions don't make sense or it's not as easy as they say. I would recommend this BT of a Sena any day and I loved my Sena. Buy it you won't be disappointed at all!!!!

Solo Rider - good but not great
So, as many riders should, I ride with earplugs. Even with those, the wind noise can get loud. I find that the speakers included do tend to keep up with the sound except at higher speeds (~80mph) in my noisy helmet (HJC CL-17). The other issue is that there is automatic gain control on the sound - which is a generally nice feature but not being able to override it is really annoying. I can't turn it off either - only lower its sensitivity. Sometimes the gain control is effective and other times it isn't. Either way, I'd like to be able to manually override it and just crank the volume to a true 100%. Even if you hit that volume button to 100% where it beeps at you and says no more - it will still use AGC to increase it past that "100%". Which means it's not really at 100%... Annoying but not end of the world. I think replacing the speakers is really what I'll have to do in the end - which is unfortunate since they do sound pretty good. I think the sound levels are meant for someone who isn't wearing earplugs - unfortunately.

The other issue I have is that OK Google and other voice commands basically don't work at highway speeds. Maybe it's my mic placement. They sometimes work in city traffic but at highway speeds, it's pointless to try. OK Google hangs either thinking I am trying to say things still (if it ever registers my "OK GOOGLE!!!!!" scream or it just doesn't ever register what I say. Somewhat ironic as when I've called others while moving, they say it sounds really good. And when I'm at a gas station on a busy street, they think I'm in a quiet room. So, it can work really well.

So, who knows. I wish I had more objective results for you all. I don't think this is a bad purchase but I did pay a lot for flakey voice recognition, WILDLY inaccurate battery status indicator with annoying low battery beeps (I say, "Hey Cardo, Battery Status" and it'll come back with, "75% battery" - only to 5 minutes to beep at me every minute and say, "25% battery/low battery" when I ask it again), and speakers that won't play at full volume because AGC is super aggressive even at the lowest setting. Fix it, Cardo. You remapped all the controls and redid everything else lately, I'm sure you can fix this.

Excellent for Calls and Music
I reviewed a lot a headset before deciding on the Packtalk Slim. It has all of the features and clarity of the Packtalk Bold, but with the battery sitting in a separate unit at the back of the helmet so the control is very...well...slim. it looks great on the helmet and works well. Install on my HJC RPHA 90 wasn't too bad. The packaging for the PT-S is very good - like Apple good. High quality components and a strong, capable feel to everything. My only issues was in the plastic support bracket for the boom mic - there are two little velcro pads that fit on either side of a support bracket which holds the boom mic in place towards the front end. One side is sticky and the other velcro - my pads kept coming off of the plastic support because the velcro side held better than the sticky side. Word of advise - stick the little pads on well before you plan to install and let the sticky side "cure."

Now the important stuff - sound quality is great with the 40mm HD speakers included, and the box also includes smaller 32mm speakers in case you need a smaller size. Use the 40mm if they fit - they sound better. Music quality is quite good - great mid-range and treble, a little light on the base as can be expected for this type of speaker. There is no equalizer adjuster except what you can do directly with your phone. The volume is okay - I found that I always had it at the top or the next setting down, but it was adequate. I'm a bit hard of hearing so it I could hear it, it will likely work for most people. The PackTalk Slim had no problems connecting to iPhone 7 or iPhone XS. I didn't use the intercom capabilities with other riders so other reviews may have more information on that. However, for call to others via Bluetooth, the quality was excellent - my wife said it sounded the same as calling from my car - no louder. Clarity and volume were both very good. I loved being able to make and receive calls anytime on the road. You can also automatically answer calls by just starting to talk. There are several setting that allow you to adjust the sensitivity and auto-answer, etc using the Cardo app and setting up an online account. The best feature is that "Hey Cardo" will turn the music on and off, advance tracks, mute and a few other things without touching anything - it works quite well, but I did find myself yelling it a few times because of a delayed response or perhaps sensitivity set too low. It also works well with "Hey Siri" so many iPhone commands are also available without pushing any buttons. Hey Card and Hey Siri are definitely my most used features. I used the PackTalk Slim on a week-long trip through Colorado and was very pleased with it. I would recommend!
Note - I had to return my HJC RPHA for an unrelated issue and ended up getting a Shoei Neotec II - The PackTalk Slim fit the HJC nicely but did not work well with an XL Neotec II - I kinda made it work, but it doesn't look good and there is no sticky mount option for the PT-S. It's definitely not made to be compatible with the Neotec II (It does work with the original Neotec). Hope this helps - happy riding and talking!

Great Unit/Corsa R
Installed the Pack Talk Slim on my Corsa R. Works great. Sound is so much clearer than my previous Sena SMH10R that I had on my Shoei RF1200.

One thing to note is that on the Corsa R, the cheek pads had an empty space to where the speaker needed to go. So I had to put velcro on the helmet then attach the speaker which as very uncomfortable. So in order to fix this, I used the GP Pista R cheek pads which had no gap in the cheek pad and there is a cut out slit that allows the speaker to be put inside the cheek pad for a very comfortable install. Just make sure the speaker is as close to the chin strap and bottom park of the cheek pad slot.

Also, you need to cut a small hold in the cheek pad which is underneath the hydration loop on the left side. This way you're able to hide the wire going into the cheek pad, from the battery and since it's underneath the hydration loop, you don't see the cut and looks very clean.

Hope this helps.

Says Cardo Smart Set not compatible I installed this APP on my phone
After I watched a Video to install a Cardo PackTalk Slim It made more sense .. very simple to install really only issue was to figure out which steel spring to shove down the back of Helmet to mount batter pack to.

Near as I can tell there are 1 or two ways to tether to my phone .. in the settings on a Android phone search for Blue tooth Devices ..

Or connect to the app I added to my phone "Cardo Connect" I also instaleld the app "Cardo Smart Set" I was lead to believe that that I could access all the controls to the Cardo via this program on my phone .. I can't open this app .. I simply get a message that it's not compatible with my device..

Makes me wonder if one APP or connection conflicts with the others ..

I almost bought a second one of these for my snowmobile helmet but Revzilla sales person told me they don't work in Cold Weather..

When Registering my device on Cardo Web site I saw they had a device for snowmobiles.. While looking closer I see they sold that from like 2008 till 20012 .. Must be too many problems and discontinued..

I messed with this device for about 2 hours while watching videos made by other users.. It was a total joke no volume every poor radio reception .. I was checking all my wires the speaker jack had came undone .. I was really surprised how loose the connection was like some $15 made in China Device .. When I plugged the ear speakers in again I pushed with some aggression didn't want to break a delicate Electronics device .. then I felt and heard a nice solid snap .. and now have a tight fitting .. Turns out I had never pushed hard enough to plug the ear speakers to the device

Now Hurrah .. I have more than adequate volume had to turn down a couple notches from full volume .

There are three strong FM stations near me .. My favorite a 50,000 Watt Classic Rock station has an Antenna 10 miles from me and the reception is very marginal .. This blows my mind why I can't pull in this station ..

It's Winter now I don't see anyway to work the controls with a gloved fingers.. Cardo will take some commands like Radio on and Radio off..

Still have to see if the GPS Lady on my phone with will talk through my speakers with out constantly disconnecting or turning off..

I was concerned with the bulk of the regular unit maybe falling off my helmet .. The Slim is so small I don't think a Potential thief would notice from a distance.. but you don't want a $500 Helmet stolen at the gas station either..

I gave 3 stars for features as the software APP I was counting on is telling me that it's not compatible with my device .. I have an e-mail trouble shooting message sent to Cardo .. I noticed they do reply to peoples issues on their youtube channel

My impression is that in another 5-10 years these things will work as intended ..

A youtube Channel FortNine does a good review on the various models including Sena ..

There is another guy who does a great review more on software but he really didn't use the unit much on the road..
