Bell Race Star Ace Cafe Speed Check Helmet

The Bell Race Star Helmet has been designed for the sport rider and track day enthusiast that demands unparalleled performance. Constructed using the latest in carbon fiber technology and developed through extensive wind tunnel and track testing, the Race Star's design features a superlight 3K Carbon Shell, Raceview ergonomics for unmatched visibility and the three layer Flex Impact Liner to manage slow, mid and high energy impacts. The Race Star continues the racing heritage of the Bell Star line, pushing the limits of helmet technology to all new heights.

FIT: The Bell Race Star has a narrow neck roll opening and snug cheekpads to occlude noise and to mitigate movement at high speeds. These padded elements will conform to your unique features by a break in margin up to 20% over time as the foam compresses.

FLEX IMPACT LINER: Pro Star and Race Star helmets feature the Flex impact liner, a first-of-its kind, three-layer impact liner designed to manage energy from three potential impact scenarios: low, mid and high-speed. It does this by using three different materials at three different densities. As the impact becomes greater, higher density layers are engaged to manage energy.

RACEVIEW: The Star features two unique profile shapes for two distinctly different types of riding. The Raceview profile used on the Pro Star and Race Star uses an orientation specifically optimized for a tucked, more compact position. Conversely, the Streetview profile used for the Star is designed for a more upright, sport or touring position.

PANOVISION VIEWPORT:  No matter what or how you ride, one factor remains constant: the need for maximum visibility. Whether racing or going on a simple ride in the mountains, the ability to make safe headchecks and see obstacles clearly is critical. The Panovision viewport in the Star offers riders additional vertical and lateral visibility over the previous Star and more traditional viewports. This allows the rider to see better in a tight  or tucked position and make saferlane changes and head-checks.

VIRUS Cool Jade Power Mesh Liner: The Pro Star and Race Star feature the most technically advanced liner on the market. Designed to withstand the rigors of hard use in extreme conditions, the Virus liner allows athletes to stay cool, keep comfortable and beat the funk. CoolJade fabric from Virus has been infused with recycled jade to create a natural cooling effect. The ultra-wicking construction combined with CoolJade infused yarn decreases your skin surface temperature up to 10° F - keeping you comfortable, dry and cool.

3K CARBON SHELL: The proven 3K carbon fiber on the Race Star gives this helmet the look, performance, and feel of a true race helmet.

MAGNEFUSION  MAGNETIC CHEEKPADS: Allows for easy removal of the pads for washing and enables emergency responders to easily remove the cheekpads first before removing the helmet following an impact.

Worth the cake.
The helmet is really amazing (gold / carbon / black) it looks better than the pics. I'm riding with it today and will report back on noise level, etc. If there is a downside the Sena 20s didn't fit very well. The mic and actual Sena control mount was fine, but the speakers really didn't work. The Race Star has speaker cut outs....wait, nope, those are for your ears. EARS. I'm sure results will vary, but I'm going to attempt to use earbuds with this helmet. The comfort level with the Sena speakers installed went from pretty solid to pretty uncomfortable just in my living room. As far as fitment I was in the middle of the size chart for Medium and the Medium fit me well. Little snug, but not muffin topping my cheeks out of the face shield. Aesthetically the helmet compliments my Thruxton R fantastic. Picks up the gold in the forks and just looks sharp. Will report back on the riding aspect.

Initial Quality Issues!!!
I will hopefully be able to update this review after I get in touch with Bell and receive a replacement or replacement parts. The visor will not click in on one side. I have used multiple visors with no luck. Also, the push lock system on the clear visor it shipped with has popped out and it now sits loose in the visor. The replacement lens will not lock in on one side after trying for 20+ minutes. Such a shame because I've been waiting for this to ship for months. Hopefully, Bell will be able to sort out this issue because I would love to own a functioning version of this helmet because it looks fantastic and the performance is there.

Great, but ended up getting an AGV corsa
Was in the mkt for a new, dedicated track day helmet as my previous track lid was a Scorpion DOT-only model, several years old. My search began just as news came out of this new helmet and the features sounded EXACTLY like what I wanted. I was particularly interested in the novel shearing/rotary protection factor of the dual EPS layers that made this helmet stand out from its competitors. I also ordered an AGV Corsa in ML to compare to the Bell M.

I pre-ordered the Bell and eagerly waited for months for it to arrive. When it came, I was a bit sad because the shipping box was totally crushed on one side, also crushing the OEM helmet box. The helmet itself looked spotless, so I tried it on. (Very nice, zippering helmet bag included btw)

Having high cheekbones, putting on the helmet was actually rather painful because the plastic attachments of the chin curtain to the shell scraped me when I pulled it on. Once on, the helmet fit nice and evenly snug around my head and cheeks. No hot spots after 30 min of wear around the house. Virus/jade liner has a very airy, lightweight feel to it and so does the foam within the liner, good support but not dense/hot feeling. I can imagine good airflow

The visor has great field of view sitting either upright on my SV650 track bike or in race tuck. Peripheral view is also great, I can't see the side borders of the eye port at all. The AGV has a narrower FoV top to bottom but similar side to side and in race tuck position. The Bell visor does NOT lock closed, instead has a firm click down, but I wanted something that may not pop open as easily in a crash....I can pretty easily knock the visor open if I bump the big closure tab. The AGV has a center locking mechanism, button to unlock, and no tabs to snag the ground.

The heavier weight of the helmet was very noticeable to me. Revzilla lists 0.5 lbs difference with the Bell being the heavier lid. On my head, the Bell has much more inertia during neck movements and felt like the CoG was up high on top of my head vs the AGV I felt had the CoG more between my ears.

Graphics-wise, I'm not crazy about either Bell or AGV's offerings. I though the Speed Check was the coolest of the current line but overall is very subtle/dull in person. It doesn't look much different than an all-black, matte carbon helmet despite the sections of clear coat.

In the end, I decided to go with the AGV over the Bell for comfort reasons and the fact that the price was similar (in fact, getting a closeout Corsa made it cheaper than the Bell). I think Bell made a good quality product but it didn't work so well for me

Loving the helmet more and more....and fixed the annoying shield detent issue
I'm 3 months into purchasing the Race Star Ace Cafe and I'm completely smitten with it.
After my Arai started getting worn and and loose on my head, I decided it was time for an upgrade.
I loved the style and safety features on the new Bell's, so I made the pricey decision to pull the trigger.

At first the helmet was snug...waaaaay more tighter than my oversized Arai, but after a month it seemed to conform to my head....and seems to further get more comfortable as time progresses.
Loving the vision and weight aspect of the helmet and the magnetic strap is a nice feature.
Its a little noisy at times..but bolting anything to our heads and doing 80 mph with our melons headfirst in the breeze is prone to get a tad bit of wind noise.

My major problem with the helmet was with the shield and lack of opening detents.
Its either all the up....or all the way down.
I get its a "Race Star" but...
Not very good for us that ride on the street and get caught in the rain and have to deal with foggy shields or ride in the summer heat and need to add a little bit more air flow inside.
So....
I put the helmet on and raised the shield where my desired opening would be and removed it..keeping the location in place and noting where the shield nubs that slip into the factory detents were located on the hinge.

I removed both hinges....bolted them together with some machine screws and nuts , so my work would be symmetrical and marked my desired location.
Using a round file...
I added two additional notches the same size and depth of the original detents, one a quarter of the way up the hinge and another just under the halfwaypoint, giving each a little bit of a flair to help with the transition in and out of the newly added detents.

Rescrewed the hinges back on the helmet and installed the shield....and WALA...My shield now stays open in two additional positions. Both still offering the safety of coverage to my eyes but adding much needed airflow and ventilation that I desired.
Now the helmet is PERFECT and all and all the job took a half hour at best....

Now the wait for Bell to release an auto darkening transition shield for it.....

Great helmet
Quick feedback to all above. Great and wide visibility. Sena can be installed easy and yes, there is a space for speakers. ( did it in 30 min and used sena 10R ).
Recommend to take a perfect fit size - this helmet is not for slow speed, so u need a tight fit ( it will take a good 3-4 days for the helmet to shape your head ).

Best helmet ever
It's stylish, I get compliments on it all the time. Has great airflow, it can be semi noisy with all the vents opened up but that's the price you pay. It whistles with the visor up like other people said, I dunno if it's noticeable to others, my exhaust is really loud so I'm sure they don't hear it. Wish the visor locked in different positions when put up but it's only one position. It's really comfortable, has a great view and it's semi light. They're on sale now, buy it now's

Btw it has one of the best Sharp ratings out there, it's still dot and Snell certified but tnt Sharp rating is what sold me on it.

Fantastic helmet
One requirement was to allow me to be in full tuck without blocking my vision. The back of the Race Star is cut so that the helmet does not ride up on your shoulders forcing the helmet down in front. The front of the view port is cut high. And the peripheral view and lack of shield distortion is great. If you want to tip your head forward to block a setting sun it wont happen. Buy a bell Star instead.

Yes, it fits snug. that's how it's supposed to fit. The sizing is correct.

No, the visor is not either all open or totally closed. Just dont snap it closed and it will flow a little air to prevent fogging.

If you want speakers, SENA, Scala Rider dont buy the RACE star. It says RACE for a reason; that's a clue. Get the Bell Star.

It's no more noisy than top tier Shoei or Arai. That's what ear plugs were invented for.

This is my first Bell helmet. Great job, Bell., You raised the bar.

Best in this price range
Great for oval! I'm 2x forehead to back. Left to right I'm a large to XL. This fit is brilliant and in the wind? Equally as brilliant! Buy with confidence. It comes with a tear off shield which makes sense as it is a racing helmet but a street shield option would be nice.

Looks great, feels great, I feel safe, what's to hate
Once this baby went on sale it was a no-brainer the price point and features, look & safety everything was on point it's very comfortable to wear airflow is OK I ended up getting a darker visor so I don't have to wear sunglasses, and even got that on sale with the rev bucks. Overall I'm really digging this helmet everybody has a personal style and everybody's head is different but overall I feel this one is a winner !!!

Great helmet just wasn't for me.
The race star is a beautiful race helmet! The matte carbon fiber couple with the gloss and gold pin stripping just made it pop. The different liners made this helmet quite stiff on the interior. It is very much long oval to narrow.
The field of vision is excellent.
The shield is top notch in quality and anti-fog. The quick release makes it a breeze to swap shields. Just make sure you feel and hear the engagement. It is definitely meant to be used with shield down and locked. If not, there's a terribly loud whistle. The whistle starts at about 10 mph and just gets louder as you ride. With the shield locked, it is completely silent.
The ventilation is very nice. You can definitely feel the air flow.

The one down side FOR ME was the fit. I ordered a LG and it put a lot of pressure on my temple. If you have a long oval to narrow head, this helmet is great.

Will they have the speaker cut out for blue tooth like the pervious star version?
eric s on Feb 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think they don't have the holes that they use to have in the previous version of the star helmet. You can see it by yourself when Anthony is showing us the inside of the helmet.
