Scorpion EXO-T1200 Helmet

This high-end road helmet won't stop evolving, coming to you with an aggressive shape and bold ambition. The Scorpion EXO-T1200 Helmet has been developed for the rider looking for that all day riding comfort from a helmet.

Features:

  • TCT Composite Shell - Developed exclusively by Scorpion, the revolutionary TCT (Thermodynamic Composite Technology) process consists of a proprietary 5 layer blend of interlaced and specially formulated fiberglass, Aramid and organic poly-resin fibers
  • AirFit - Inflatable cheek pad system for a superior, personalized fit
  • Contour Cheek Pads - Three-dimensionally sculpted foam that contours the rider’s head shape for better comfort and fit
  • EverClear Face shield - Optically-clear shield with state-of-the art fog-free technology, anti-scratch hardened coating and 100% UV protection
  • SpeedView - Adjustable to 3 positions, the retractable sun-visor incorporates Everclear anti-fog technology on both sides
  • KwikWick III - The third generation of Scorpion’s moisture-wicking lining material feels cool to the touch in warm weather and warm in cool weather while maintaining anti-microbial and hypo-allergenic properties
  • KwickFit - Allow easy on and off of the most common styles of eye glasses
  • VSV (Venturi Super Vent) Ventilation System - Scopion’s innovative VSV (Venturi Super Vent) System was specially designed and wind-tunnel tested to increase the venturi effect, a creation of negative air pressure. The two intake ports both serve a separate function, the first draws cool air into the helmet interior while the second draws cool air across the three exhaust ports. As the second intake port passes air through the graduated super vent air channel, it accelerates the flow of air over the three exhaust ports, thus increasing the venturi effect which will draw more warm air out of the helmet interior.
  • Ellip-Tec Base Plate - Scorpion’s ratchet system uses an elliptical motion that creates 7.6mm of travel which pulls the shield securely against the eyeport, ensuring a proper seal. The Ellip-Tec ratchet system allows for 100% tool-less shield changing in a matter of seconds.
  • Emergency Release System - Tabs located under the neck roll allow easy removal of the cheek pads by trained emergency medical personnel
  • Rear spoiler
  • 3 shell sizes
  • Double D ring
  • 5 year warranty

Note: Ships with clear face shield only.

Not Sure I See the Value
Full disclosure, I have only owned sub $150 HJC helmets in the last 7 years. This helmet was partially a Christmas gift and I decided I would treat myself to an upgrade at this price point. In a lot of ways this helmet is better than my cheaper HJCs. In a lot of ways it is also lacking. Maybe my expecations are too high?? Overall, the build quality is not what I was expecting for the price tag. It has a lot of nice features included, they just aren't always executed with the greatest precision.

First I bought the same size I have been wearing for 7 years over 3 helmets. The size Small Scorpion helmet was painful to get on my head and hurt once I did. I am sure it would break in, but my other helmets never hurt like this when new. I returned it for a Medium, and that is just a bit too big and moves around on my head. The inflatable cheek pads help, but not enough. These are not really helmet problems, I guess I just have an unfortunate head size.

The internal sun visor had a milky film on it out of the box, such that the clarity was very poor. I noticed that it wiped off, so using soapy water and a clean MICROFIBER towel I gently cleaned the film off. GENTLY. This resulted in swirl marks all over the visor, so it seems the plastic used is very low quality for it to scratch as a result of the product and technique used. I am noticing similar results from the external visor even in the short time I have been wearing the helmet (less than a month).

I found the sun visor lever hard to find with gloves compared to the top center slider on HJC, but I will probably build up the muscle memory. I do feel like the lever sun visor and the lever to vent the face shield will definitely break because they are thin plastic.

Helmet is much quieter than I have had before, which I attribute to the shell material and the better sealing around the face shield.

The liner is comfortable enough, but the way it is shaped, it produces the worst shaped helmet hair I have ever seen, even from other people's helmets. A head sock is an absolute must, especially if I am riding to work. Not something I have had to do with my other helmets. Air flow is noticeable and good, but it does seem to buffet at high speeds a bit more than my other helmets did.

View port is narrower than any of my HJC helmets, I will get used to it, but I definitely have to make more effort to effectively check over my shoulder.

Great Helmet
I purchased this helmet for cold weather and long distance riding (6 hours or more). In cold weather I found the shield will fog up and the pull down visor. However, I did not treat the visor with the supplied product so it may be my fault. The helmet is very quiet and very comfortable to wear. Light weight and has a solid feel. I definitely recommend this helmet.

Excessively Loud
The Venture Super Vent / VSV results in excessive wind noise from 30+ mph with a minimal increase in ventilation over standard helmet vents. The noise is so excessive that I am unable to use a communicator with my windscreen in the lowered position and my ears ring with prolonged use.

I have had other Scorpion helmets and the T1200 is louder than even my $100 modular. I provided Scorpion with an expanded version of the linked video that included in-helmet audio to document to issue. I installed vent plugs provided by Scorpion and even mailed them the helmet for inspection where they concluded there were no defects.

While I am a fan of the Scorpion line the wind noise produced by the shell of this helmet is clearly a design flaw, especially for ‘touring’ use. It’s a good helmet in terms of quality and weight … only other criticism would be a narrow and low vertical field of vision.

Great Helmet...but did I need the drop down visor?
After using this helmet for a couple hundred miles I am fairly happy with my purchase.

The helmet liner material is awesome! Very comfortable against the skin and great at wicking sweat, I live in southern Arizona so its pretty warm. The helmet also flows air very well when at speed and keeps me reasonably cool. The functions of the features are outstanding. The Airfit system is easy to inflate and deflate while riding. the action of the drip down sun-visor is beautiful, in my experience much better than the center of the helmet slide style systems.

Final thoughts. I was really drawn to all the features that this helmet offered, however after some seat time I think I better understand what Is necessary for me. The Airfit system is great and can really snug the helmet to you cheeks and slightly reduce noise. However the quality fit of the contoured cheek pads almost make this unnecessary, I find that i often pull my helmet off without deflating which is more rider error than anything but slightly annoying. the sun-visor was a must have for me but I've found it really does not cut the glare of the rising/setting sun like I'd like so I usually ride with a pair of polarized glasses behind the clear shield offers me the sun protection I want.

Solid upgrade from my CL-16
First of all, I am very happy with this purchase. This helmet is great quality, and a solid upgrade from my 6 year old CL-16. I have made a list of a few usage related pros and cons to consider, I am not talking about safety features and rating because all of that is available in the description, but overall I would highly recommend this helmet to any rider.

The good;

I will never buy another helmet without the built in sun visor, this is a priceless feature for a commuter, I no longer switch visors 2 times a day.

I have had no fogging issues with this helmet, even on cool rainy days. You definitely need to keep the breath guard/nose guard in, and the front vent open.

The inflatable cheek pads are awesome, on a really windy day I can increase the pressure to keep the wind from moving/shaking the helmet around on my head.

I find the noise level to be pretty much the same as the CL-16, which I think is pretty good.

Not so good;

The first helmet I ordered was a LG based on the size guide it should have fit, but I could not fit it over my head, and I had to swap it for an XL.

This helmet is noticeably heavier and bulkier than my 6 year old CL-16 was, most likely due to the build in sun visor.

The airflow is noticeably less than the CL-16, which is very unfortunate for me, living in Texas. The mouth vent is effective, it's the top vents that I can barely notice if they are open or closed.

The view angle/peripheral vision is much less than I had with the CL-16, which means I have to fully turn my head more than I normally would.

Happy riding, and remember, dress for the slide, not the ride.

So glad I chose this helmet!
I was a bit skeptical at first, because I didn't know why the price wasn't higher for so many features. It is super comfortable, and fits very snug, plus you have the "air-fit system" so if it a little loose in the cheek/chin area, you can fine tune it. Now it is a little on the top heavy side, but that is to be expected and not a deal breaker for me, at least I know that it is a quality helmet and not paper thin. It feels very durable, and the finish is nice. I bought the flat black color, and it does show fingerprints, but it wipes off very easily. As far as noise level goes, I removed the chin skirt and that made it a little bit louder, but that increased the airflow so it is a plus for me. Now the airflow at speed, is hardly noticeable. Maybe this is because I have so much hair and full beard? I also live in TX, so I stay hot, plus I am just a hot natured person. Im not saying the airflow is poor, It does flow air, I guess I just had my expectations set very high. I can feel it through the chin mostly and very minimal on the top of the head, but at speed, it gets a lot better. (it isn't uncomfortable) The pros outweigh the cons on this helmet! When everyone asks me what kind of helmet it is and how much I payed for it, they are blown away. Very reasonable price for such an investment, and I feel like I will use this one for many seasons to come. The only thing I wish it had, is a ratchet strap, but that is just my opinion.

Great helmet and service!
I've got to say, this helmet rocks! It seems to be first class! I have an oval shaped head and this helmet fits great and is very comfortable. After measuring my head, I was right on the boarder between the large and XL. I ordered the XL and was glad that I did because the fit was spot on. I was also very impressed with the field of view of the face shield. I can see everything clearly and never have to worry about fogging up. The helmet is light and I doesn't feel like a "bobble head". The T1200 is made for cruising. I ride a Harley 883 custom and needed a good quality helmet to cruise around town and I've got to say that I love this helmet. After calling several other places, everyone seemed clueless. No one had any knowledge of the product. Revzilla had their act together, was very professional and was able to answer all questions. If you want a great helmet with great service at the lowest price -- this is it.

Comfortable, lightweight, nice features
I've rode about a thousand miles with this helmet, some in terrible winter rainstorms. The anti-fog and ventilation works well, but sometimes I still have to crack the visor to keep from fogging up.

The built in sunshade is fantastic, and the air fit actually works well. Seems reasonably well built at the price point. Big upgrade over my old helmet, but not a huge jump in price. The comfort and lightness means I get much less worn out physically on a long ride.

Noise level is very good below ~55mph but at freeway speeds it's loud and has an annoying rushing/whooshing sound (more annoying than my old cheap helmet). I always wear noise isolating earbuds on long trips, so this isn't a big problem, but I was hoping for a bit better noise performance from a touring helmet.

Fantastic Helmet
With this being my first helmet and purchase, I don't have anything to compare it to.

Anyways, I measured my head per the video and I believe I was a 22in. So I debated with going with small or medium since it was right in between the two. So I went with a medium. It fit rather well, but I think I could have got away with a small once the pads broke in a bit. Right now I am leaning towards getting smaller cheek pads to see if it will help with a tighter fit.

Very comfortable helmet, so don't worry about being uncomfortable. Air flow in my opinion is great, love the dropping the front tab down and getting fresh air rushing in. Vision is great as well. Super light too. If you have oily hands you'll leave some finger smudges here and there but you can just rid that with a microfiber towel.

I wouldn't be above buying this helmet again when the time comes. All in all, great helmet, don't hesitate to grab one up.

What Pinlock insert does the included shield use?
Benjamin H on May 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The respective catalog numbers for the manufacturer model numbers I mentioned above are:

52-527-50 = 888560 (RevZilla's catalog number)
52-527-68 = 888561 (RevZilla's catalog number)

Side note for their IT/web-hosting team: Not sure why one cannot search the manufacturer's numbers on RevZilla's site. That should be something worth fixing. I know of people, myself included, who will Google manufacturer's part numbers to shop for them.
Is the inner visor a dark smoke shield?
A shopper on Oct 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The inner shield that came with my black one would have to rate right between the two. It was black tint, but not the darkest I've had. Alot darker than the smokes I've seen. It was great all summer in montana, never had to sunglass up under it.
How loud is Loud??ive never have had a helmet before or road a bike.... so can you compare this to something as in like driving a car down the highway with your windows open? or is it quieter then that?
A shopper on Aug 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have the Scorpion EXO-T1200 Quatro. As you can tell by the reviews, everyone has a different idea of what loud is. Personally, I find the T1200 a good, quiet helmet. I am bothered by more sound from driving in a car with the windows down. But the helmet is not sound dampening either like when using sound cancelling headphones. Over long distance (say past 200 miles) I need ear plugs or I start to get a headache from the sound level. Plus at higher legal speeds on the highway, the vents on my helmet will start to give a buzzy sound. I offset this because the helmet also breaths better than others. Compared to a Nolan and a Schoei 1100 that I had, this is a quiet helmet. Compared to my current Schoei RF1200 it is loud. Best advice would be to go to a store and try them on. See if the owner will let you step outside to hear what the ambient sound is with the helmet on and off.
Safety rating?
A C on Apr 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: DOT approved only. (SNELL approval not given as it has an internal sun visor.)
This helmet is got a lot of road noise in it Why?
A shopper on Apr 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Everyone has a different opinion on what "loud" is. I own this helmet and have absolutely no complaints regarding wind noise. I suppose it depends on what you consider loud and what other helmets you compare it to.
Personally, I have no complaints at all and love the comfort, features and style for the price. I've added a dark smoke shield to my Black/Silver Quattro and it's perfect (IMO) now.

BEST ANSWER: Solid is 1 color, the Freeway is a graphic design.
I it just my helmet or all T1200's supper loud?
A shopper on Aug 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Sorry I have not had a chance to ride in it yet, I always wear ear plugs anyway. My EXO 1100 is noisy, particularly without a windscreen. Initial reports are that this helmet is worse. Hope this helps, tom
I wear glasses. Will the sun-visor work with the glasses?
A shopper on Jun 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I also wear glasses, and it works great for me. No interference issues at all.
I had an exo 1000 size xl, liked it except it left a big red mark on my forehead along with some annoying pain. I was measured at 61.5. Would like to try a t1200 but worried about what size to order, xl or xxl. Tried on a 2000 xl and pretty much had to force my head into it, fit very snug. The xxl went on without excessive force, but only felt snug after pumping up the air fit quite a bit.

What size would you recommend?
Ron on Jan 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I returned the helmet. For my head shape the shoei fits better. I had the same issue. The scorpion was tight on the forehead and left red marks. I looked like Peyton Manning whe he takes off his football helmet!!
