Scorpion EXO-T1200 Helmet

This high-end road helmet won't stop evolving, coming to you with an aggressive shape and bold ambition. The Scorpion EXO-T1200 Helmet has been developed for the rider looking for that all day riding comfort from a helmet.

Features:

  • TCT Composite Shell - Developed exclusively by Scorpion, the revolutionary TCT (Thermodynamic Composite Technology) process consists of a proprietary 5 layer blend of interlaced and specially formulated fiberglass, Aramid and organic poly-resin fibers
  • AirFit - Inflatable cheek pad system for a superior, personalized fit
  • Contour Cheek Pads - Three-dimensionally sculpted foam that contours the rider’s head shape for better comfort and fit
  • EverClear Face shield - Optically-clear shield with state-of-the art fog-free technology, anti-scratch hardened coating and 100% UV protection
  • SpeedView - Adjustable to 3 positions, the retractable sun-visor incorporates Everclear anti-fog technology on both sides
  • KwikWick III - The third generation of Scorpion’s moisture-wicking lining material feels cool to the touch in warm weather and warm in cool weather while maintaining anti-microbial and hypo-allergenic properties
  • KwickFit - Allow easy on and off of the most common styles of eye glasses
  • VSV (Venturi Super Vent) Ventilation System - Scopion’s innovative VSV (Venturi Super Vent) System was specially designed and wind-tunnel tested to increase the venturi effect, a creation of negative air pressure. The two intake ports both serve a separate function, the first draws cool air into the helmet interior while the second draws cool air across the three exhaust ports. As the second intake port passes air through the graduated super vent air channel, it accelerates the flow of air over the three exhaust ports, thus increasing the venturi effect which will draw more warm air out of the helmet interior.
  • Ellip-Tec Base Plate - Scorpion’s ratchet system uses an elliptical motion that creates 7.6mm of travel which pulls the shield securely against the eyeport, ensuring a proper seal. The Ellip-Tec ratchet system allows for 100% tool-less shield changing in a matter of seconds.
  • Emergency Release System - Tabs located under the neck roll allow easy removal of the cheek pads by trained emergency medical personnel
  • Rear spoiler
  • Chin curtain
  • 3 shell sizes
  • Double D ring
  • 5 year warranty

Nice upgrade
I have been riding with a Scorpion EXO-T510 for a little over 2 years. I really like that helmet but was looking for something with a little more air flow for these hot Florida summers. The EXO-T1200 fits the bill. It fits very similar to the T510 but the fabric feels a bit more "high end". I guess that is the KwikWick III lining. Very soft and keeps my head cool. Along with the lining the airflow is great. I can actually feel the air moving over my head.
I also like the drop down visor. It keep me from having to wear sunglasses or carry an extra shield for day/night riding.
Scorpion helmets are a great bang for the buck. No where will you find a helmet with its features and comfort for close to the price.

Nice helmet, good value, but watch out for quality control issues
Long story short: I like the helmet and will use it until it falls apart but I wouldn't buy another one given the chance.

I'll start out with the good stuff, then finish with the bad.

Good: The helmet fits my head shape (intermediate oval) and is true to size. Very lightweight for how many features are on the helmet. I got the Alias color scheme in red which looks fantastic. The liner material is one of the most comfortable I have felt with few exceptions.

Bad: The first helmet I ordered had a broken sun visor lever. The second helmets s.v. lever broke very quickly. Revzilla was very good about the exchange on the first helmet. For the second helmet I contacted Scorpion and found out that this part frequently breaks, so they sent me a few spares and instructions on how to fix it. Works fine now.
Theres a gap in the lining on the forehead area that is supposed to be for ventilation. What happens is that your forehead pushes the lining against the foam in the helmet, creating contact between your head and the foam. The black stuff that the foam is colored with begins to rub off on your head. Lets just say its tough to get off.
The chin air vent does not move a lot of air, but it does work.
On the first helmet, the airfit system worked flawlessly. On the second, you have to hit the pump button just the right way for the thing to fill with air.
Lastly, I find the helmet to be loud. I think its louder than my previous, an AGV K3 SV

LOUD AS EFF.... WOW....
Owned the previous version of this lid, 30+ years of riding/racing and this is HANDS DOWN the loudest lid I have ever put on. Sitting still at a intersection with 10mph of wind it whistles in the helmet. Tried every combination of vent setting and it's just freaking loud... also picks my (buddy holly style) glasses up off my ears while riding. I'll have to wear ear plugs or just resell it since there is no return after wearing. Did I mention this damn thing is loud? Wow.....

Almost there
I own a couple of helmets but this is my first Scorpion. Build quality seems top notch, materials are good quality.
This helmet has a safety option that allows for paramedics to remove the helmet more easely from an injured rider, which I think is quite cool (fortunately, not tested), and a system by which you pump air into the cheek pads to adjust tightness, or deflate them for a more relaxed fit. Also a very cool feature.
Drop down sun visor is ok, although I think it should drop a little further down as it sort of stays midway through your field of view.
I opted for the chrome visor as an extra which looks amazing with the matte black finish.
I only have two complaints with this helmet:
1) It is a little on the loud side (even at 60mph or so), which I did not expect from a quality helmet as this. I think the upper part of the visor isn't well sealed. Don't think it's a deffective one, just the way it is.
2) The helmet fits ok to my size but after some time (not much) I feel a little pressure on my forehead as the padded part seems to receed and the part that actually makes contact with the base of my forehead is wrapped in the perforated material which is a little rougher than the padding, and the seam that sepparates the two is quite annoying.

Overall, nice helmet.

Extremely sleek looking helmet, definitely recommend!
The helmet is amazing. Super sleek and I love the matte black with the extra tinted visor. The flip down sunshades do get stuck every once in a while but I don't use it often enough with my tinted visor to be a big deal. Overall I'm extremely happy! Plus I've received so many compliments on the helmet, it's definitely worth it.

Disappointing and seems like its falling apart
So, I've been riding with this lid for about a month now and I'm overwhelmingly disappointed in it. The gasket in the front seems to be coming loose and some of the sticky foam strip that was underneath it started working its way out on my first day wearing the helmet. The internal sun visor frequently gets stuck up in the helmet OR if I have it not stuck it jiggles its way down as I'm riding over a slightly bumpy street. Additionally, once you get over 60 mph this helmet ROARS.

About the only thing it has going for it is the built in "slight-lift" function of the visor. You pop it up and get just the right amount of extra airflow when cruising at city speeds. Honestly, I'm probably going to see if I can sell this helmet locally because it just really isn't what I want. I gave it a fair shake, but I think I'm done with it.

It's ok but wish I'd bought another 410 instead.
I've got 6 months and 6000 miles on this helmet, which replaced an EXO-R410. It looks good but I wouldn't buy it again. First, it is BY FAR the noisiest helmet I've ever used. Seriously, the wind noise on this thing is unbelievable, even with ear plugs. Second, the liner is great at wicking sweat, but if it's raining it'll wick that too until the whole liner is damp. Third, the visor fogs up very easily. If it's cold or rainy or humid I have to leave it cracked open and then open it completely at stops or it will completely fog up.

Lastly, the quality isn't great. The right cheek pad pops off every time I put the helmet on or take it off. Scorpion is sending me a new set of cheek pads that will hopefully fix the issue, but if not I'll have to send them the helmet for a warranty claim. As a daily commuter this is more than just a little annoying or inconvenient.

The drop down visor and adjustable fit are nice but I wish I had bought another 410 instead.

Fits its price range
Helmet fits the price. The liner is very comfy and the airflow from under and at the chin is very high. Airflow at the forehead is not good at all. The weight is fine not heavy, the aerodynamics are average. The helmet is super super loud. The internal sun visor is very nice and easy to use. Over all its great bang for buck if you get it for under $300. I got it on sale for like $240, I would not pay $300 for this helmet, not worth it.

What?!? I can't hear you because this helmet is so LOUD!
On paper this looks like a great helmet. And in many ways, I guess it is. But it has its short-comings. Let's get right to the biggest weakness: this helmet is loud. No, it is LOUD. Lower case just doesn't capture it. This helmet is so loud that I wear earplugs everywhere I ride in it. And still my ears are ringing by the time I'm done. I rode in it for 8 hours yesterday and my ears are still ringing today.

The next weakness is the mechanism for the drop-down sun visor. It's hard to find with gloved hands AND it is on the left side, which means you can't operate it while you're stopped at a light and holding the clutch. A center mounted control would be so much better, because you could operate it with either hand that was free.

I have the same left-right issue with the visor operation. The bump for you to open the visor is on the left. Again, you can't operate it while you're holding the clutch, which is the most common time I want to operate it. For example: it's hot out. You're riding with the visor down, because you're going fast. You come to a stop at a stop light. Your visor immediately starts to fog up and you start to feel like you're sweltering. So you'd like to crack your visor so you can breath. But you can't. At least you can't unless you do the switch-your-feet-shuffle so you can put the bike in neutral, so you can let go of the clutch, so you can crack your visor. (Yeah, I know, I can turn my head far enough that I can reach the visor-bump with my right hand, but it's akward and hard to do, and you can't watch the traffic light with your head turned.) So why didn't they put that bump on both sides or just put it in the middle?

Fogging: this helmet fogs up a lot on me. Most of the time I ride with it open to the first notch because at least then the air flow keeps it from getting fogged. It would be nice if there was a barely-cracked-open setting, but there isn't. So you're basically faced with either eating some bugs or fogging up. The choice is yours!

They say that this helmet has great airflow. I don't know, maybe I got a different helmet, but mine sure doesn't. My head sweats like crazy and the insides of my helmet are always damp after a ride. I can't feel any airflow in it.

OK, that was the bad stuff. Now for the good stuff! I love love love love the drop down sun visor! I don't know how I rode before without one! That thing is perfect. It isn't too dark that you can't use it just about anytime. It also isn't so light that you can't ride directly into an afternoon sun. I think its polarized and UV coated too, because things appear clearer through it than without it.

I also LOVE the little pull-tab on the D-rings. That is genius. It makes taking off your helmet, even with gloves still on, easy and quick.

I like the look of the helmet. It's aggressive and eye-grabbing.

It seems durable. I've had the helmet for over a year and put about 5,000 miles on it.

Conclusions: I wouldn't recommend this helmet to someone else because of the noise. I wish I had taken a hearing test prior to using this helmet and then another now. I'd bet I have some hearing loss because of it.
