REV'IT Gibson Jacket

The REV'IT Gibson will add some ruggedness to your ride. Sporting a classic four-pocket front and bold zippers, the Gibson means business. The characteristic pull up cowhide effects a nicely worn-in look over time, meaning the jacket will break in and age uniquely, according to your shape and the use you put it up through. The REV'IT! Gibson Leather Jacket uses extremely thin SeeSmart CE-level 1 protectors to provide protection while maintaining a clean and tailored silhouette. The Gibson is prepared for the optional Seesoft CE-level 2 back protector (sold separately), and you can attach the jacket to your jeans with the short connection zipper using the REV'IT Safeway Belt. Because the Gibson is bound to become your favorite jacket, REV'IT included a detachable thermal liner so you can continue to ride in style even when temperatures aren't ideal.

Protection Features:

  • Outer Shell: Pull up cowhide leather

Dye came off
I loved the feel of the leather in this jacket. I wear a 54 in the Alpinestars Brera jacket and the 54 in the Gibson was a bit too big. Returning it as I decided to stick with the Brera. One issue I noticed while trying out this jacket for about 30 minutes was the dye from the leather coming off on my hands. When I washed my hands after it looked like I'd been reading a newspaper for 1/2 hour. Had that same newsprint ink sort of staining. I know the jacket is designed to weather rather quickly and I don't know how long the jacket would keep shedding dye, but that could definitely be a problem.

Great Jacket with Great Style
I am 5'10, 165lbs of normal/slim build. I ordered size 48 and it is fitting well. I had been looking for a nice leather jacket for a while and was preferably looking for something "classic" looking (and in brown if possible). I also wanted a jacket with plenty of pockets both outside and in. This jacket has it all.

Yes, it does run a little large, though I have really only noticed it in the arm length. It's actually not that bad, just maybe a half inch longer than I normally would like. That being said, the jacket does not overall look too large or baggy. It has a nice, semi-fitted look and feel while still retaining many of the elements of more relaxed classic leather jackets. I can wear a long sleeve underneath or just a T-shirt.

Style wise, this thing is awesome. I love how it quickly starts to take on its own character with the wearing and fading of spots on the leather. I have only worn it for a handful of short rides, and it's breaking in so nicely.

The CE1 armor, while thin and relatively comfortable, does not provide the world's best protection, but I believe this can be upgraded. No back armor.

Very handy interior pockets for phone and the bottom two outside pockets have been just large enough for my wallet.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the purchase. Great style and utility, fits well and decent protection. Get this. You won't regret it (at least I hope not).

maybe runs tall rather than large
other reviewers have said this jacket runs large and, after ordering a 54 i was sure i'd have to return it. I'm 6'2" and 195. skinny but maybe a bit of a paunch. This jacket fits me perfectly. I understand the comments of snug arms and armpits, so if you're a buff-american this may not be right. But for taller skinnier guys, this jacket is a beauty. I got the black and did experience a bit of the tanning coming off (an earlier reviewer i believe called it 'ink').. In a brand new garment and i am not surprised and i would expect that to not be a problem after a couple of wearings.

Runs large, long sleeves
Jacket seems to be nice quality for the price range. I like having a zip out liner for seasonal flexibility and the armor is low profile. I am 6'0" 220 with a stocky athletic build and have always found off the shelf sleeves to be too long. I ordered a 54 based off of the size chart and chest size and found that it was a little big everywhere and long in the sleeves. This jacket would fit a taller person better. Sleeves are about 1 1/2" too long for me. I will try 52 and see if that is the one. Another odd thing is the zipper is on the opposite side meaning that the closer part that you actually zip up is on the left side.

Great for cold weather
I've logged about 2k miles (my daily roundtrip commute is only ~6miles). Jacket is great for cold weather. Have worn it in <15 degrees + wind chill on a naked bike and with just the liner + tshirt have been perfectly snug for daily 30 min commute. Weekend trips have treated me well.

It's not water proof, but in a light rain it's fine for over an hour. In a downpour and highway speeds it does start to soak through 15-20 minutes. First thing to go is the elbow area.

Now that it's heating up I'm going to take the liner out and see how it feels in 80+, probably going to be getting a better breathable jacket. Without the liner you definitely feel the pads more, especially the back pad if you buy it.

For fall through spring though this jacket has been excellent. I did hit some black ice during a slow turn resulting in me dropping the bike and the jacket had no aesthetic damage from it.

The only reason I did 4/5 for the bang for the buck was because I feel for how much this costs the liner should be waterproof.

Awesome Jacket
Super nice jacket. Love the style and fit. Watch the video review of it, its spot on. Measured a 54 and ordered down to 52. Perfect. Does fit snug in arms and shoulders but other than that great. The extra sleeve length and body length was great for me. Kept the skin covered in the riding position. I ride a Fatboy with stock bars, for now, and no problem with arm position. Sat on a Roadking with 14" bars and still no pulling. Rode about 40 miles road trip today. Left house at 45 and returned home it was 38. Both legs the jacket was super warm. No complaints. I do wish the dye and leather did not have the immediate worn look but it was nice being at a H-D house and not looking like everyone else.

Stylish jacket with minor flaws
Just got the jacket and like almost all the other reviewers wrote, it runs slightly large. Im 5'8" 165 pounds with an athletic build and decided to go with my normal size (48) because 46 was out of stock and I figured I could just return it if it was really as large as everyone said.

I'm actually pretty happy with the length of the jacket overall because I'm not really a fan of really short jackets (makes me feel like some sort of diva). Sleeve length is long but normally leather jacket arms crease on the elbows and take about .5" so I imagine the sleeves will be fine after I break it in. That being said it's not obnoxiously long; I can live with it being this length. Stylistically this jacket wins, especially considering the armor is basically invisible (no back protector).

Now for the flaws: within one day of ownership, my left wrist cuff snap somehow came off and remained stuck on the other end of the snap closure. I had to get a pair of pliers to take it off and run to a home Depot and buy some super glue to glue it back on. It wasn't a big deal but considering how much I paid, this type of thing shouldn't be happening. I'll give rev'it the benefit of the doubt and assume I just got a bad egg.

Also another reviewer noted "ink" coming off the leather. I definitely noticed it on my jacket (black color). Its odd but I don't really have an issue with it as long as it eventually stops rubbing off.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Sometimes we get it right
Could not wait to review this jacket since I was apprehensive about ordering a size 50 when every Revit and Dianese and Alpine stars leather jacket I own is a 52 and tight at that . This jacket is not a vented jacket and exactly what I wanted for southern winters and has a surprisingly well done liner for even more cold weather protection. So while it is not at all boy racer in style I went with the video advice and ordered the 50 and much to my delight it was spot on. I'm five ten , one ninety with a 42 in chest and a thirty six inch waist and this one couldn't fit better if I had it tailored for me .

I have to say the leather as described has a unique feeling to it kind of waxy and has a strong smell like some high end store bought non riding jackets. That is also a plus in style of it because it doesn't reach out and shout "BIKER" JACKET so I wouldn't even be hesitant to pop the back pad out and wear it to church on Sunday..
Love the fit love the warmth, it is COLD in Georgia today and I may not take it off all day.

Checks all my boxes, Napoleon pocket for my iPhone, simple italian style zipper cuff opening and snaps , zipper tab with no metal to scratch my tank, virtually no badging that you will notice unless you are a bike guy. The jacket feels like it needs no break in time as it is very pliable and the best part is the shad of brown matches my Street scrambler seats and is compatible in color with al the SW Motech Legend accessories adorning my Triumph so , I reckon this was a homer for me this time around. I've been getting sizes wrong lately over thinking the order and this is one time no RA will be necessary so thanks for a candid video and excellent customer comments which encouraged me to take a chance and get one more leather jacket I don't need but really wanted to fill a seldom needed slot in my repertoire .

Cheers . Keep up the good work .

Solid Styling
As others have stated, this jacket does run large. The sleeves are tight in diameter but long in length, which is great for thinner builds. Unfortunately the waist is 'American' and really built for heavyset individuals, coupled with a length (torso height) that I found surprisingly long considering this is a motorcycle jacket. I could use 2" cut off.

I ordered a 46 as a 6'0 162lb guy, and it fits great minus the chest being too small (31" waist, 41" chest), with the arm holes placed slightly forward to facilitate the riding position. All in all though, I really love this jacket. It looks like a 'proper' leather jacket, minus flamboyant branding and distracting ventilation. I've got a summer jacket, this is my winter. Its liner makes quite the difference when removing, and when inserted it's fabulously warm.

I wear a 50 in other jackets so at least go one size down, two if you want a "I can't fit a hoodie under it" fit. I'd recommend this buy. It's so hard to find a leather jacket that just looks like a leather jacket these days! Go for it!

Love the style
The jacket is just what I expect, I read the leather will start to get old ish fast but thought it was not going to be that fast, I've used it for only a week and it has a lot of marks already but it looks cool. It bring protection for elbows and shoulders and had to buy the back protection that is key.

is there a 3do back armor that would fit instead of using seesmart?
Curtis T on Jul 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The pocket is not large enough (too narrow and too short) for D30 pad I use in my Klim Induction jacket. A seesoft level 2 protector fits perfectly (rev'it model).
Whats the sleeve length on this jacket? Specifically the 56 or 54.

Is this too hot for 90+ deg humid weather?
nirzwan b on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Don't even think about it. No air ventilation. Even with the liner out, there is no air flow. Stick with a mesh jacket.
Does the collar snap open?
Richard C on Oct 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The collar does not have a snap to hold it open. However, I’ve found that at highway speeds and up, I do not notice any movement of the open collar. Very comfortable fit around the next; open or closed.
Is the inner Thermal Liner removable?
Niko M on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: "Because the Gibson is bound to become your favorite jacket, REV'IT included a detachable thermal liner so you can continue to ride in style even when temperatures aren't ideal".
