REV'IT Discovery OutDry Boots

Whether you’re aiming to discover some real backcountry or simply to find out how long you can sit back in the saddle and count mile markers before getting delirious, it is better in a pair of REVIT Discovery Boots. Designed for riders who need the ultimate in touring comfort and convenience with appointments for off road protection, the REVIT Discovery Boots ford that gap. Built on high-grip, long-wearing Vibram Overland Soles, the Discovery Out Dry Boots offer both stability on the pegs and dexterity for walking or hiking. The suede, leather and Cordura upper boasts an innovative BOA closure, achieving the perfect fit with the twist of a knob. The laminated OutDry membrane provides waterproofing, while the lining uses 10% silver thread 3D mesh to maintain a comfortable, antimicrobial interior. Seesoft-backed shin and tongue, injected ankle cups, and thermoformed heel, toe and shin guards dole out off-road grit without giving up flexibility and comfort, making the REVIT Discovery Out Dry Boots an ideal ADV ally.

Note: We have found the REV'IT Discovery OutDry Boots tend to run small and suggest going up if you are between sizes.

Sturdy and bedroom shoe comfort (only slightly exaggerated)
Rated lower for 'bang for the buck' because this is THE MOST expensive shoe I've EVER bought. 350 was my price point and only because of some serious comparative shopping on Earth and Mars was I near that line (that's another story).

Now for the good parts. I refuse to wear a full on adventure tour looking boot for normal riding AND I don't want to have 4 different pairs of boots (sport, tour, adventure, commute). While these are still too bulky to wear with slacks at the office, they will fit under a pair of boot cut or normal jeans and look really good. These are like wearing high hiking boots. The protection is understated but significant. Showing them off to a friend and had him hit me across the shin with the side of a ruler....NOTHING. Toe, ankle, and heel protection are solid as well. The BOA lacing system is easy on/off (and cool too).

This is my first try with the OutDry system. I'll admit this provides more air flow than my old Gortex lined boots but I don't have enough time in the boot to tell you if it is as waterproof. While some would say Gortex is the ultimate airflow waterproof material, I will only give it the waterproof title as it will always be warmer than a non-waterproof material. I’ll edit my review when I hit a rain storm to comment on the water resistance of the OutDry. .

Fit is spot on. I normally wear an 11 (on occasion a 10.5). I purchased the 45 and it is perfect with thinner socks. It's not tight with thick wool socks but the boot is full. A 46 would have been too big in normal socks.

Comfort.....Oh My.... My first ride in these was a slight adjustment to my trusty AlpineStars as the shoe is beefier/sturdy in comparison. However after the first 3 to 4 times through the gears, I regained my confidence and feel. The 'OH MY' moments were when I got to the office (jeans day). I never changed my shoes. These were every bit as comfortable as the hiking boots I had planned to change into. Again sturdy, but never a bother. Big Win for Rev'it!

Durability COULD be the only downfall of this boot. This boot is mostly suede and rubber. No big concerns on the rubber albeit thinner than expected on the shift area (adds to the look). Bigger concerns on the suede as it tends to stain, wear, and require more attention than the leather on other shoes in my closet. Again, I’ll edit my review in a few months (after the rain storm) and let everyone know.

Sizing is off
I am returning these for a few reasons. First, and unusual for Revzilla- the Sizing chart is wrong. The chart says buy the 47 if you wear a US 13. They are too small- which makes sense when I read inside the boot Europe 47 US 12. It fits like a 12.
Next problem is the calf is cut too small. I can barely get the velcro cuff sealed. Next, the protection is less than the video review would lead you to believe. Very little ankle support- more like a touring boot than an ADV boot in my opinion.
And finally, a word about eastern Europe manufacturing. These boots have glue stains in places, and the much raved about Vibranm sole has a twist to it. The boot wobbles when you set it on a flat surface. Not what I would expect for nearly 500 bucks!

Very good multi-purpose boot
I have used many different types of footwear over the years. Engineer's boots, lace-up standard workboots, Redwing Irish setter hiking boots, more recently Donner waterproof tactical boots, dedicated touring boots. The Donners are great all-around boots. Waterproof (as in stand in a trout stream and stay dry), some leg protection, great for hiking (to the bottom of the Grand Canyon or to the high elevations of Glacier), light weight, good lugged soles. They are not off-road boots, and have no real impact protection at the ankles. They were a good compromise, though, if I were going to be hiking, and some light dirt road riding.
These boots meet many of the same requirements, excel at some, aren't as good as others.
Looks- they are not Herman Munster boots. They look good enough for me to wear to work on Friday's. This is probably not as important for me as some.
Weight- reasonable.
Waterproof- check.
Ease of in and out- outstanding. The Donner boots have a lace/ zip function that might be better, but not by much.
Protection- other reviewers, and the video go deep into this. The protection level is high. Maybe not as good as a dedicated rigid boot, but I would expect to come out of most non-car incidents intact.
Walk-ability- there is a tiny bit of ski-boot heel-rock-toe, but minimal, and they broke in. I can walk without any real indication of what I'm wearing. However, these are not hiking boots. You would not be hiking 30 miles through terrain with a pack on, there is simply not enough flex. And, I'm not sure I would want to wear out a pair of boots that cost this much, even if I could rebuild the soles. So, for me, that's the down side. I like to hike when I'm touring, and these will likely either curtail the ground I cover, or I will have to either ride in Donners, or carry another pair of shoes. If you're not a hiker, these are probably as good as it gets for owning a single boot for all riding.
One last thing- the soles are fairly thick, and for someone with a 30" inseam, every quarter inch makes a difference. These are thicker than standard touring boots, and are grippy, for when you're backing up.

Best boots I've owned
First trip in these was 2000 miles in 40-70 degree temps, with days of pouring rain and high cross winds. My feet were warm and dry through all weather. These boots are so comfortable I didn't bring another pair of shoes. The easy on and off closing mechanism worked perfectly. I like these so much I bought the shorter version for summer riding.

Great Boots!
Comfortable out of the box. BOA provides excellent fit top to bottom while making for easy in/easy out. Lean form factor; no buckles or straps. Hard shin plate is curved outward and provides space for the boa dial; no pressure point, nice design. Support is very decent and ankle protection seems geared more for impact than for twisting forces. Great for my daily commute and for the lighter side of the trail. No squeak and easy to walk in!!! Seems very well put together. My new favorite boots. I would buy again.

I compare these with Toucans (way more comfortable, less pro, no squeak), and Discovery Rains (way better fit, more pro in toe and ankle).

Comfy and technical with easy on and off
I am a retired cyclist so my natural instinct had me gravitate towards Sidi. I bought their adventure boots and returned them the same day. I also tried my hand at the less expensive Forma Adv boots. My skinny cycling legs just wouldn't stay put in either boot. After having luck with the Rev'It Jackets, I checked out their boots. I'm so glad I did.

For starters, they look like the mountaineering boots I wore on Mt. Rainier a couple years back. However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They do have a mountaineering / Mad Max vibe to them, but with the CE protection you need for ADV riding. Rev'It went to town with the footbed tech and the placement of the shin guard is very unique. Once the boot is tightened to your liking, the shin guard flaps closed. The unique part is that it isn't a part of the boots closing system. Meaning, you don't need to worry if it is tight or loose for your foot to stay put. Just make sure it is covering your shin. They are waterproof so splash away.

Secondly, when you put them on you quickly realize that these are the most comfy ADV boots you will try on. The BOA lace system is fantastic. I had the same system on all of my cycling shoes. The ability to adjust on the fly is second to none. This lacing system really shines when you need to get the boots off quickly and rest your feet. Pop the BOA mechanism outward and your foot slides out like your favorite pair of bedside slippers. I added my own footbeds for arch support; as there is plenty of room in the boot to do so. I wear these with tall compression socks and they fit great. I wear a size 42 Euro and purchased the 42 Euro. No issues with sizing and seem to be true to size.

Third, I will have to say that I like black shoes and boots. The leather and suede on these have a nice appeal and will go with any pant you choose. However, I would like to see some additional color schemes. That would allow any rider to add a little flavor to their ride. Not a gripe about the boot, but more so with the lack of options.

Lastly, the boots are expensive. However, if you are in this sport you know that quality costs.

Good, solid solid yet comfortable boot
I was looking for a replacement of my BMW boots that have lasted me more than 10 years thus far. This boot has fit the bill. It's sturdy, offers great protection yet still is comfortable to wear around while not on the bike.

The only complaint/drawback is around the sizing. EU 46 is typically a US 12 but with this boot, the EU 47 is actually a US 12. That's was the label on the boot reflects. I don't have an issue with the EU47 at all. It's just right for my feet but the sizing chart is different than what the actual boot label reflects.
