Comfortable, Stylish, Safe

I commute daily on a motorcycle in the southwest. These are comfortable, protect me (never had a crash, hope to not find out), and look good when I arrive at my software company office.

Yesterday, as a test, I drove (car) to a large customer and did a 4 hour sales call in these, and, get this, got complimented on the outfit.

What I like… they are very comfortable. You hardly notice the armor. In fact, I checked to make sure it was there. They look good. They fit right. Slightly large (I wear a 34x32 jeans, the 34 here requires a bit of belt tightening). That works though because it gives me a bit of room to tuck in my Clock 43 carry gun that goes with me most places. Also, the pockets work well. They keep my phone in, but I can get it out easily, unlike some other riding pants I wear (jeans and dedicated riding pants).

They aren’t water proof, but it doesn’t rain much here. If it did, I guess I’d just put on my riding suit over normal street clothes and leave these for another day.

What I didn’t like… they are small at the shin, so not all boots will go under them. My Harley style cruiser boots won’t. My TCX leather all season ones do.

I’m buying another pair or two, including one in dark, so I can rock these all week. Good job Rev’It.

Better than most...but some considerations
These chinos have some great qualities, but there are shortcomings to consider for some. I'm 6'3", 195, 34" waist & 35" inseam. Ordered 34x36.

The good:
Comfortable. Quality. Look good. Include Seesmart knee protection. Coolmax for those hot & humid DC-area summers. Okay for some work environments (see below).

The bad:
For those of us with long legs (34"+ inseam), the knee protection is a concern as they're non-adjustable. For me, with a 35" inseam in most jeans/pants, the knee protection covers my knee for walking around but stops just above my knee while in the riding position. Maybe it'll slide down during a potential fall, but I'm not betting on it. So this means I have a pair of riding pants that don't really protect my knees and don't come standard with hip protection.

Also in the less-good category, don't be fooled into thinking these will be just like a regular pair of chinos. They aren't. They do have the "motorcycle material" chaffing sound every step you take. Pretty rigid. They also still show the knee armor when standing, and they really aren't suited for business casual (borderline for casual Friday's in my opinion). A more casual environment probably is fine for these (if jeans are okay, so are these).

Lastly in the less-good category, many have noted the waist sizing. Definitely go down at least 1 size if you want a regular fit. I don't mind the extra room and just wear a belt. For length, as noted above, I'm a 35" inseam and went with the 36" length. They ride up but are okay with moto boots on. I'm sure they'd show some leg if I were wearing riding shoes or shorter boots. The issue is the knee armor location only.

Overall, I like them better than riding jeans (for looks alone) and am pleased enough with them after 2-3 weeks of everyday commuting with them. If the knee armor was adjustable, it'd be a home run for what I was after.

Probably great for some, not for me...
I had been eagerly awaiting thes arriving, to the point that I was bummed out when I saw they would take longer than the traditional 48 hours it normally takes for me to get stuff from Revzilla. I wanted to love these, and they just don't work for me, but I imagine they'll be great for other people.

First off, I own the Rokker Riding Chino in black and like it a lot but have never quite loved it. I have been waiting for someone to come along and do a better version, I hoped this was it. Having already invested $500 in the Rokker chino's these had big shoes to fill. I basically wanted a pant that was a little more stylish, and a little bit closer to a traditional chino fabric than what you get with the Rokker - which is good but not great from the standpoint of style and fabric.

The style and fabric of these are better and worse in different ways. The weave of the fabric is much tighter than the Rokker, which probably makes it look a little more convincing from a distance of say 5 feet, than the Rokker. The fabric overall, however, is definitely cheaper and not as nice, and while up close at a distance of a couple feet or so the Rokker is not going to pass as a normal chino, up close the fabric of the Alpha looks cheaper. The fabric of the Alpha is also REALLY stiff. I imagine it will loosen up a little bit, but I don't know how much. It almost feels like a waxed cotton army backpack in a way. That is a bit of an exaggeration maybe, but you can legitimately fold them clean in half like a piece of thin cardboard and they will keep their shape like that., picking them up from the middle, or one side or the other, without sagging at all. Again, probably will loosen up as time goes on but with a lot of money invested in the Rokker I am not interested in taking that chance.

Style wise these actually fit very similarly to the Rokker. If you have bigger legs, these chinos will be perfect. I have skinny legs, and the crotch gusset added unnecessary 90's mom pants type superfluous fabric to the crotch/thigh area. Unfortunately this was that much more obvious with how stiff they are.

From a detail/feature perspective, there's no real comparison between the two pants. The seesmart armor is amazing, and love it in my revit jacket. Outside of that, the Rokker kills. Button pockets, zipper front pocket, a fabric treatment that repels water and stains, nice-ish mesh lining, a treatment that helps the chino's retain their black color, etc. The Rokker boasts a lot that these do not. But then they are also twice the price.

These will probably pass as a traditional chino to more people and in more settings, but my skinny legs were not compatible with them. YMMV.

Great 1st impression
I ordered the camel color 38/32. The color is best described as a tannish light brown. Thankfully, it doesn't have much yellowish/orange tone to it, as some camel or desert colors seem to. The material feels like a thick canvas. It is heavy and sturdy, and certainly seems like it is protective.

The sizing is on the large side and probably not for the guy who can sport skinny jeans. I'm 5'10, 225 w/ 30 inch inseam. I measured 39 1/2 inch waste where I wear jeans and 41 inch at the belly button. These fit well with some room to spare at the waste. Perfect with a belt. Length seems fine, and has appropriate extra lenght for riding position. They stack a bit when standing up which I expected. They will not fit over larger boots. They are a more tailored cut through the legs and not baggy or overly loose on me. They are also not too tight. With the hip protectors in (ordered seperately), there was no noticiced difference in fit.

One last thing. I read a review regarding the rear pockets and lack of snaps or buttons. This is true, but the rear pockets are very deep. I can't see how a normal sized wallet would slip out. They will swollow my entire I phone 6S Plus with the phone positioned vertically. They actually seem deeper than the front pockets.

Favorite riding pants
They're super comfortable, look great, and offer protection at a good price. Sizing runs a bit large, but that's been well documented. My true waist measures 33.5". I got a 33 and I definitely could have gone down to a 32, but a belt keeps them up fine and I have some extra room to move around. The SeeSmart armor is super thin and flexible, and the abrasion resistant stuff at the knees/hips/butt make me feel well protected.

Two thumbs up!

Great for city commuting
I wear these to the office and not only do they look great but they are very comfy. The padding is thin and honestly, I wouldn't take this on the highway. Not sure I trust them in a long slide.

But for putzing around the city, heading to see friends for coffee or better yet to wear to work, they are very stylish, super comfy and the price isn't too bad. I'm quite happy with these pants.

Hard to believe they are motorcycle pants.
Full disclosure: It isn't riding season yet in northern Michigan, so I'll update the review after I've logged some miles. I wanted to review quickly however as I am often confused about sizing given the size charts and the videos often seem to be contradictory. I wear a 33 X 30 jean and ordered a 32 X 32 Alpha Chino. They are a bit too big in the waist and just about right in length. With a belt, they should be fine. They look great, and it is impossible to tell that there is armor in the knee. I would like to have a button closure on at least one of the rear pockets, or perhaps velcro, but other than that I am very happy with this purchase.

I wanted to love these, but...
I wanted to love these, but there are two major issues that contribute to me never using them.

First, I'm 6' 3", 190 lbs, and the knee armor is way too high. I ordered the 32"x34" which fit pretty well (I'd guess that they're more of a 33"x35"), but the knee armor sits well above my knees. I noticed this when I first tried them on but assumed that the armor is adjustable; it's not. When I sit on the bike, the knee armor truly covers my lower thigh, rendering it useless.

Second, the shin and ankle region of the legs are very tight, which means that they don't fit over any of my riding boots. I've considered buying new, narrower riding boots/shoes to wear with these because they do look good, but in the end decided that's a little ridiculous when I have other nice motorcycle pants to wear (my favorite so far are from Resurgence Gear).

If you're shorter than I am and wear thinner boots or shoes on the bike, you might love these, but they just don't work for me at all and I regret buying them.

First off I just want to echo all the other reviews and say that these do run large. I'm normally a 31 and I got these in a 30 which fits comfortably.

I was looking for riding pants for my daily commute. My office is casual so I needed something low-key that doesn't scream "Hey guys look at me, I ride!!" (Because my helmet already does that.) These pants fit the bill perfectly.

So they fit well and they look nice, but what about the protection? This is probably the main point of contention for these pants and this is what I have to say about that:

No matter which route I take to/from work, I'm going to hit some traffic. In other words, I'm not going fast. So I'm not necessarily looking for the highest level of protection. I accept that I'm trading off some protection for the convenience of being able to wear the same pair of pants all day long in the office. These work for me.

Now to address some of the features on these pants. The knee armor is not adjustable, and in a riding position, most of the armor is actually above the knee. When I'm walking around, the armor does cover the knee. So if I run out of luck and get into an accident, maybe my legs will straighten out and maybe my knee will be fully protected. I don't know, and I really hope I never find out. Note that I got the 34" length. Maybe on the 32" the armor is positioned better, but I feel like that would be too short for me. Honestly though, I would still wear these pants just for the Cordura denim alone. Speaking of which, the material is pretty stiff, compared to say, premium soft denim jeans. And yes they make a little "noise." These are the trade-offs that you will have to consider. For these reasons I am giving a 4/5 rating to Protection & Durability and Features.

Final thoughts: Maybe one day I'll treat myself to a pair of Rokker Chinos for comparison. But for less than half the price, these pants are the real deal.
