What's this?

Icon Airframe Pro Halo Helmet

The Icon Airframe Pro Halo Helmet is straight space age insanity. Engineered to be in precise harmony with you, your bike and the environment, the aerodynamically sound handmade composite shell has been designed to promote stability in the sport riding position. Truly a classic in the making, the Airframe Pro is worthy of the top shelf, serving up ultra refined goodness for your dome. The Halo graphic gives you a color pallet to fly your team colors.

The modern riding position of higher rear sets and lower clip-ons has dramatically altered how a rider interacts with the modern motorcycle. Compressed into an ever more compact shape, the rider’s head positioning requires an increased angle to maintain visibility and stability. The Icon Airframe Pro Helmet has been built on this singular design focus which allows Icon to realize opportunities to decrease drag and weight by sculpting the traditional neckline to avoid jacket or suit interference. The Icon Airframe Helmet's aggressive geometry increases the line of sight while improving aerodynamic attitude in a fully-tucked riding posture.

The dramatically reduced shell profile, comprised of aerospace-grade carbon fiber (FRP) features a track-recognized ECE certification. Precision assembly techniques further this dedication to mass reduction, allowing Icon to craft a helmet that is exceptionally light and peerlessly outfitted. Internally, the traditional three-piece liner has been upgraded to a five-piece liner, providing a greater amount of fitment combinations for each unique head shape. Crown, lateral, fore and aft padding components allow for a possibility of 27 fitment combinations in a single shell, double that of the Icon Airframe's competitors.

Both internally and externally, the Icon Airframe Pro Helmet is optimized for the Angle of Attack.

Features:

  • Handcrafted composite shell
  • Four unique shell sizes for minimized mass and drag
  • Sculpted neck roll reduces jacket/suit interference
  • Five-piece modular liner with moisture-wicking HydraDry
  • Linear ported forehead vents
  • Low-profile vents throughout the shell
  • Fog-free Icon Optics face shield with Rapid-Release release system
  • Prolock positive shield locking system
  • Removable breath deflector and chin curtain
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

Love It
Coming from AGV and Shoei helmets, this Icon Airframe Pro is fantastic in its fit around the head as well as the materials used. Super soft and comfortable. It's nice and quiet, even with all vents opened up...however to open close the vents is a pain in the ars. I guess through time I'll figure it out but generally I set the vents before I put it on so assure I have them open or closed....changing them while riding is like feeling around, finding the vent, then pushing it in all directions wondering if you just opened or closed it...annoying, just a little bit. The only other thing I 'could' complain about is there are no speaker pockets. So you'll have to use some Velcro tape (not a big deal and comes with speakers) HOWEVER, because I believe this helmet wasn't quite designed for a speaker-set, it really does add some unnecessary pressure around your ears with speakers in it. This, including your sunglasses on and around your ear, definitely makes for some very sore ears after your journey. So much so that I've even had bruising...maybe my head is more intermediate and causing this pressure when combined with speakers and sunglasses, but I absolutely loved the fit when those weren't in place and I was doing my purchase. I'm still in the process of shifting the speakers around to get that perfect fit that doesn't bug me, but it's ongoing...
Other than that, this helmet is by far the best I've owned. And heck, it looks darn cool too! (watching my language LOL)

Has great air flow
I bought this helmet in the blue halo version about 3 months ago. I typically wear medium size helmets but reading previous reviews of snug fit, I decided to go large on this one and it did the trick. The helmet does come with a clear lense, however, I bought the dark smoked lens extra. I am very happy with my purchase and I have always used Icon products in the past and they never have failed me wrong.

Excellent lightweight Helmet
Pros:
-Lightweight
-Airflow
-Visibility
-ECE rating
-Looks

Cons:
-Chin Air Guard fell out while on the highway >.< (Might have been user error... but grrr)
-Vent covers are hard to find/use with gloved hands

It is an ideal sportbike helmet for the price range.

More details:
I bought this as an upgrade from my old commuter helmet. At higher speeds my previous helmet would "vibrate" and feel "unsteady" (sometimes this gave me a headache on longer rides). Comparatively, at higher speeds the Airframe Pro feels smooth. It cuts through the wind very nicely and I barely realize I'm wearing a helmet. The wind noise is not terrible and I can hear much more of the engine noise than before (major plus). As for the Halo Blue, it is awesome. I have already been complemented multiple times by people seeing the helmet and thinking it looks sleek. It matches my GSX-R's GP blue color scheme very well.

My biggest complaint was that the chin air guard flew off. It loses 1 star for durability because of this problem. The 3 star rating of features is because the vent covers are annoying to find with gloved hands.

Overall, I highly recommend the Icon Airframe Pro.

Great Upgrade
After reading SHARP's helmet test results for the Icon Airmada, I knew it was time to upgrade to a more protective helmet. Especially because I was spending more time on the track. The side impact results were pretty poor for the Airmada, but quite good on the Airframe Pro. I also liked that I could reuse the visors from the Airmada.

While I found the Airmada very comfortable for about 6 months, it was definitely very loud and had some strange airflow characteristics when doing head-checks on the interstate. The Medium Airmada fit me perfectly (does not move independently from my head and pulls my skin when shifting it around) and the Medium Airframe Pro fits just the same. The Airframe Pro is a tad bit tighter on the cheekpads though. The Airframe Pro is also significantly easier to put on and off without folding my ears over.

The Airframe Pro is a little quieter than the Airmada (the included chin curtain seems to help too) and feels higher quality overall, even down to the metal used on the Double D-ring chin straps. The airflow characteristics are very smooth and I can't imagine a helmet feeling much better in this way. The neck cutout is nice for tucked-positions. The helmet feels slightly lighter than the Airmada as well.

My only gripes are that the aerodynamic accents on the sides of the helmet make positioning a Sena 20S slightly awkward, but it still works just fine. It just took a little longer to find the sweet-spot. The liner is a lot easier to work with for routing the speakers and mic than the Airmada was, probably mostly due to the higher overall quality of this helmet. Also, the vents on this helmet feel plastic-y and cheap. Also, this is a pretty big helmet...not too crazy, but definitely a large shape overall. Other than that, I love the helmet.

Incredible Helmet
I just picked this helmet up coming from Scorpion EXO series and also, at one point, had an Icon Mainframe.

Scorpion helmets have amazing anti-fog and the mainframe fogged even if you thought about breathing but never did. So I was worried about making a full switch back to Icon. I am absolutely glad I did. The visor system makes Scorpion's extremely easy system feel like a nightmare project, comparatively speaking.

Compared to Scorpion EXO helmets, this thing is QUIET. Even with earbuds the wind noise on the Scorpion helmet was deafening. This thing is amazingly quiet in comparison.

But the "features" I am absolutely amazed by are the aerodynamics. This thing literally feels like there just isn't air moving around it...at any speed. It doesn't matter if you are top of 5th clicking to 6th or just out on public roads riding around. You can look around without sudden pull on your head from doing so, there is hardly any "buffeting" from turbulence.

The large raise in the back of the neck area is AWESOME. Being able to dig through a turn and move your head up to spot your way through it without it contacting anything in the back is the best feeling ever! I used to constantly feel the back of my helmet "bottom out" when looking up to spot my apex-exit, it can get really irritating. This thing, however, never does.

It's easily 40% lighter than my Scorpions. The best way to put it, it just feels like there isn't a helmet there. The way it handles air moving around it is fantastic. Even if you are looking left and right. It's...liberating!

If you are thinking about purchasing this helmet just do it. It is well worth every penny.

Six month review
I bought this helmet to replace my HJC CL-17 and here is why I wish I would have picked a different helmet if I could do it over again. I always ride with a sena, on my HJC I have cut outs for the speakers which are not as comfortable in the Icon. Second, I've never had my HJC have anything break even after about a a year and a half or owning it. In six months the snap to secure the D-ring excess broke off and one of the snaps that secures the comfort liner to the eps foam popped out of the helmet when i pulled the liner out the other day. Icon made a pretty okay helmet here but failed to make it last.

Wanted a helmet that matched the new jacket. Looks great and is fit perfectly. Definitely would advise to get an Optics shield. I bought a gold one and it looks awesome, but be aware that those shields are not great at night.

Does it come with a dark or colored shield? If not, how much is a dark shield?
Gerry L on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It only comes with a clear visor. Added visor price depends on which visor you would like (in between $40-60 here).
Does the Airframe pro halo come with the side plates and the 5 piece liner?
Mansour R on Jan 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Side plates come on the standard clear visor. Cant remember if it's a 5 piece liner, but the liner Is removable (I've washed mine a couple times).
Says this helmet is meant for riding full or 3/4 tuck..I ride a street triple, not on the track. Would this helmet be good for my bike and casual riding?

BEST ANSWER: I ride a ducati streetfighter which I assume has similar ergos to a street triple. I think the helmet is great.
I recently got this helmet and want to get a new mirrored face shield for it not sure which one fits this helmet?

Does this fit tighter than the Airmada? I am especially worried around the temple and jaw.
Joseph B on Sep 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have not worn the airmada but my temple and jaw fit very snug. The helmet may be a bit constricting at first but in a few rides the helmet feels lovely.
Trying to decide between this and the Shoei RF-1200. Has anyone had both that could compare?
Daniel F on Dec 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Between the 2 the major difference is that icon is a race helmet design and made for the tuck. The RF1200 is more of a street helmet made for different styles.
What is the MM size of the 3x cheek pads and liner. And can you get a smaller size for the helmet?

What is the MM size of the liner and the cheek pads ???
Jonathan S on Apr 8, 2016
Dose this helmet match well with Kawasaki golden green?
A shopper on Oct 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No it doesn't. As a general rule, never make the color of your motorcycle a deciding factor when choosing a helmet. It's not a suit. Your helmet does not necessarily have to match your motorcycle.
