What's this?

Icon Airframe Pro Construct Helmet

The Icon Airframe Pro Helmet is straight space age insanity. Engineered to be in precise harmony with you, your bike and the environment, the aerodynamically sound handmade composite shell has been designed to promote stability in the sport riding position. Truly a classic in the making, the Airframe Pro is worthy of the top shelf, serving up ultra refined goodness for your dome. The Construct delivers a post-apocalyptic raw finish that lets you see the composite weave under a matte clear coating.

The modern riding position of higher rear sets and lower clip-ons has dramatically altered how a rider interacts with the modern motorcycle. Compressed into an ever more compact shape, the rider’s head positioning requires an increased angle to maintain visibility and stability. The Icon Airframe Pro Helmet has been built on this singular design focus which allows Icon to realize opportunities to decrease drag and weight by sculpting the traditional neckline to avoid jacket or suit interference. The Icon Airframe Helmet's aggressive geometry increases the line of sight while improving aerodynamic attitude in a fully-tucked riding posture.

The dramatically reduced shell profile, comprised of aerospace-grade carbon fiber (FRP) features a track-recognized ECE certification. Precision assembly techniques further this dedication to mass reduction, allowing Icon to craft a helmet that is exceptionally light and peerlessly outfitted. Internally, the traditional three-piece liner has been upgraded to a five-piece liner, providing a greater amount of fitment combinations for each unique head shape. Crown, lateral, fore and aft padding components allow for a possibility of 27 fitment combinations in a single shell, double that of the Icon Airframe's competitors.

Both internally and externally, the Icon Airframe Pro Helmet is optimized for the Angle of Attack.

Features:

  • Handcrafted composite shell
  • Four unique shell sizes for minimized mass and drag
  • Sculpted neck roll reduces jacket/suit interference
  • Five-piece modular liner with moisture-wicking HydraDry
  • Linear ported forehead vents
  • Low-profile vents throughout the shell
  • Fog-free Icon Optics face shield with Rapid-Release release system
  • Prolock positive shield locking system
  • Removable breath deflector and chin curtain
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

Worth the upgrade
I had the Icon Airmada for a year and recently upgraded to the pro.

Fit/shape: I need to point out a big plus with the airframe: I can put it on with gloves. Explanation: with the airmada my ears would always fold over after putting it on and I would have to reach my fingers in to push them back up (couldn't do this with gloves on). With the airframe, my ears don't fold over (though out of habit I find myself starting to reach in to adjust sometimes).
I went with the same size for both helmets and neither fit loosely so this is a fair comparison: the airmada, though comfortable, put a lot of pressure right on the forehead; the airframe fits just as snug but with no uncomfortable pressure on any specific spot. This backs up the claim to it fitting more long oval, less round. Additionally, the helmet is incredibly stable going down the highway, whether you're looking straight on or checking over your shoulder, the wind doesn't grab it. No head swaying.
In summary for fit: very comfortable, more so than the airmada.

Noise: It is not quieter than the airmada

Weight: Very light (size small), as in you're not wearing a helmet light.

Style: The construct graphic (black) is very rad, as in you want to carry the helmet around with you so that others can see it and presume you are a cool person because of the helmet.

Vision: Wide from side to side and great up to down. You're never trying to look around the helmet unless you're trying to see 180 degrees behind you. Highlight: you can swap the airmada shield over to the airframe.

The number one detail I have to point out is the neck cut out: exactly what I needed. It's as much a hidden blessing is as a chair is after standing up all day.

Review
Have had this helmet a little over three months now I think I have nailed down a few pros and cons of this helmet over some others.

Pros:
-Price, it is a mid level priced helmet probably the best in its price point.
-Comfort, normal comfort runs a little small, feels light great vision range and had plenty of space for sena headset. The best part about this helmet is the back of it. The raised swoop is amazing. I went and tried several helmets and none of them Arai, Shoei etc could give the neck comfort that this did. When tucked in this helmet has the range that you can actually move your neck back all the way. Movement is not limited like most and really helps prevent neck pain.
-Look, the style is of course up to debate with every person but this looks more aggressive than any other Icon helmet I have seen.

Cons:
Lost the chin guard on the second ride. I had a feeling it would pop out.
Airflow is average but with all of these vents you would think it would be better. Without the chin guard airflow is almost too much and air blasts into your eyes.
It is a little heavier than I could have liked perhaps the carbon fiber model would have been lighter but till this is a manageable weight. Went for a long eight hour ride and this helmet kept me dry and did not have any discomfort.
Another downside is the chin strap lock button. The thing is so picky to get locked in almost impossible with gloves perhaps mine is defective but it pops out all the time and never stays locked.

Final thoughts:
Great helmet for the price, you cannot go wrong and should you be looking at cheaper helmets you are doing yourself a disservice. The only downside of this helmet is the design of the chin guard as it is utter garbage and the chin strap lock button.

Great helmet if money isnt really an issue.
The helmet feels very well built. The visor system is great. Tons of airflow. Very light. Even at 120+ MPH it never feels weird. The only thing I can think of that might be negative is that its not a very quiet helmet. Not saying its crazy loud. But if you're looking for a helmet that's quiet then this just isnt for you. This is for someone who is going to be riding in hot climates and needs a fog free/sweat free experience. Its worth mentioning that I used the measurements in the size chart and the helmet is the perfect size BUT the pads on the inside were a little too tight so I bought the smaller pads and its perfect.

Best helmet i've had
I bought this helmet to wear when i want more protection than my open face one.

I chose the dark finish - it's a sort of rubbery feel and it looks great.

it's very light, and very comfortable. i measured my head at 62cm, and ordered an XL with the XXL fit kit. this works fine, but i think i may have been better off going one size up to begin with.

the view is excellent, much better than any full face helmet i've previously had, and on-par with my open face.

there is a bit of wind noise and whistle from the vents at speed, but this can be fixed by closing them.

the air flow is excellent - i ride daily in sydney, and on a 32 degree day with 80% humidity, the vents were making a big difference.

for reference i ride a Bonneville t100 with aggressive riding position thanks to clipons and rearsets.

Sweet Helmet but Very Loud
I purchased this helmet when it was first released. I bought an XL as Icon's run small and I fit as a large in any other brand. The helmet fits exactly like the Airmada, but with thicker cheekpads. This helmet definitely squeezes your face.

The fit on this helmet is very comfortable, as long as you wear a long oval helmet.

The only complaints I have with this helmet are that it is extremely loud and the construct shell has a lot of sharp edges that can get snagged on things. Also, the finish scratches fairly easily

Great quality for the price
Super aggressive look especially with the tinted visor. Neck cut out is awesome as it makes moving head around a lot easier and doesnt interfere with backpack like most helmets do. Ventilation is good which makes it a bit noisy but i like being able to hear the bike and everything. Super light which makes riding more of a pleasure.

looks great and fits even better, little loud though
First off, I love this helmet. The padding is great and very comfortable. Extremely Cool on the hottest summer days even in the black version which is what I own. Even though it's much quieter than the Arai helmet I had before this one it's still gets pretty loud to the point that it hurts my ears if I'm going around 80+mph but other than that. The chin strap is good looking and easy to use and I honestly forget it's even there it's so comfortable. The ventilation is the big reason and looks are the biggest reason for my purchase and I was not disappointed. No picture can fully give this helmet justice I get compliments on it everywhere I go.
All in all I would recommend this helmet to everyone I know who rides. Definetly worth the investment. Especially if you live in Texas like I do and you have to think about riding in temperatures upwards of 100degrees Fahrenheit. And this is the helmet for that.

I Like This Helmet
Upgraded from a Bell qualifier, which was loud and didn't fit me right and was actually taking away from the enjoyment of riding. Ugh.

The first time I put it on, I thought, "Wow!"
This Icon feels light, the vision is GREAT, really good airflow, lots of attention to detail. Feels more towards the oval end of the spectrum as opposed to round. Added the mirrored faceshield.
Had it a couple months now and no complaints. A lot of thought obviously went into the design of this. Aerodynamics at freeway speed are great too. I'm always hoping for super-quiet, but noise wise it's fine. Quieter than my previous helmet for sure. Overall very happy with this helmet. Good job Icon!

Icon Airframe Pro Construck (Black)
This is my first Icon helmet, went from a Shoei RF1000 and could not be more impressed. The field of view is more than impressive. Helmet fits great, is quiet, comfortable and looks awesome. I am more than happy with this Icon helmet. I think I got more bang for buck from this than any other helmet I've owned. IMHO I think this (Black Construct) is one of the best looking helmets out right now.

Very happy with it
I was a little hesitant at first about an Icon helmet knowing who they used to market their gear towards. But after buying an AGV Grid two years ago that is just enough too small to be uncomfortable, I needed something else. After about 200 miles with it this weekend I can say I'm very happy with the Icon. It looks great, it's light, the visibility is good, it's very stable at speed, and it fits well. My head measures 23 inches so I bought a large, the helmet fits great, the cheek pads are just a bit tight though. I wouldn't be able to chew gum comfortably if I wanted to with this helmet, so I've been debating on buying the smaller cheek pads. I can't comment on how much air it flows since it's still been kinda cold here in NY, so I've had the vents closed. I'd be surprised if it flowed more than the AGV, but that helmet flows an amazing amount of air around your head. The Icon is way quieter than the AGV so that's a definite plus, and they weigh about the same, which is impressive considering the AGV was a few hundred bucks more. I was worried about the rubotone finish being a pain to clean but the bug guts wipe right off if you follow the instructions in the manual so you don't ruin the finish. Overall it's been a great helmet so far and I don't see that changing as the miles add up. The only things I can say negative about it are that its a bit hard to turn your head, not a big deal unless you ride looking all the way to your left or right at all times. And the way it smells when you first get it out of the box may bother some. It's the typical fiberglass resin smell but, after wearing it all weekend that's faded. And the shield release system isn't as nice as the one on my AGV but it's not bad, just requires a little extra to get the shield to pop off.

I chose the Airframe Pro Construct for a few reasons - mostly that I have been using/enjoying an Icon Airmada. All reviews by those who had an Airmada are extremely positive, and confirm that the sizing is the same. Also love the Construct look, would probably have bought an Airmada Construct if they sold such a thing.

Light, awesome looking helmet that provides very good protection with fog resistance.

This helmet looked really cool, and as soon as I saw it I felt like I needed it. After wearing it for 6 months I am happy with my purchase. Visor changes are super easy, and this thing is very smooth in the wind (albeit a little noise, wear your ear plugs folks).
Daniel M on Jun 22, 2016
Love the Shape of the helmet like the color scheme as well with the messy looking finish. Was gonna go with Arai but the price was way better on this helmet. I was sold on it the momment you could customize the inside. Hoping to make this fit like a 900 dollar Arai. My last two helmets were icon so im glad this became an Option.

My old helm wasn't holding my head like I wanted it to so I saw this one and fell in love immediately. It holds my brain like it needs to and looks awesome as well as functional. It shimmies my head from side to side if I sit upright but for a helmet of this design that is to be expected... Did I just have a run on sentence?
