So much ventilation!
This is my first helmet and i'm glad i spend the extra $$ rather than a basic helmet at around $200. I bought a matte black in M. I'm female with intermediate oval head and a 22 5/8" head. It fit great, cheek pads are a little tight when they come in until you break them in. I love love the drop down visor and the vents. The chin vent and the one on top of the head provides great amount of air flow so i'm not sweating. In addition, i love that the visor clicks in and has a release button. I've heard horror stories of other people crashing and their visor pops open. Would highly recommend.

If you can fit it, you're in for a treat.
Wow this is a nice helmet for the price was my first thought. Compared to the GT-Air you're sacrificing perhaps an ounce of quality for 10 pounds of value and form. BUT! This helmet is round oval. It is not true round, but this will NOT fit those on the longer side. You will realize very shortly after you put it on if you are longer oval.

Better than GT-Air: compact shell, area below the shield is longer (covering more of your neck, a big benefit for ST helmets), much lighter, better neck roll coverage (again big for ST), way cheaper

Worse than GT-Air: not QUITE as rock solid as a shoei, interior not QUITE as comfortable

If your noggin is round, there is no question this is a slam dunk in my opinion, and that is coming from a guy who had to return it. Long ovals don't even bother-trust me.

Disregard my ratings for noise and air flow because I did not ride in it.*

Just the Upgrade I Hoped For
A brief one (for a change): After three pretty good years with my HJC CL-17 (and a lot of little knocks leaving it more than a little tattered), I decided to look for a serious upgrade in terms of weight, airflow, noise reduction and Bluetooth-friendliness. All the Good Stuff from the usual suspects were pretty far out of my price range, except for HJC's own RPHA 70 ST, which was still a *bit* beyond my budget, but I stretched to it because, well, it's about my head, yes? Long story short, the 70 ST is terrific, delivering on all the above expectations.

A few hopefully-helpful notes:

- In terms of fit, I'd heard that HJC's RPHA line differed from the rest of their helmets, even though the online size chart seemed to say otherwise. I took a chance and ordered the 70 ST in the same size as my CL-17 (Large, actually one size down from what the chart recommended for *that* helmet). The first time I put the RPHA on, I momentarily thought I'd made a mistake on sizing, but remembered that the CL-17 felt pretty damned snug the first time I put *it* on, but eventually settled in to a very comfy fit. The 70 ST is the same deal, except that the Intermediate-Oval shape fits me even better than the CL-17's Round-Oval shape did. Even before "breaking in", the RPHA felt quite good once I actually had the thing on, and got better in a relatively short time.

- The flip-down sunshade works beautifully, and doesn't run afoul of my eyeglasses (which, BTW, work just fine with this helmet). One interesting point for those with prescription Transitions lenses: the standard face shield apparently does not filter out all UV rays, as I noticed my lenses darkening in bright sun while riding. Believe it or not, I'm not complaining: This came in handy with my non-sun shade-equipped CL-17, and this means that I can likely forego using the 70 ST's built-in sun shade for all but the most-extreme conditions, but better to have it than not, I say.

- Bluetooth: I'm quite happy that the 70 ST has cut-outs for BT comm speakers, because as a result of this helmet's smaller overall profile than the CL-17's (which had no cut-outs), I needed that extra bit of space, particularly for Sena's 3S-W, whose speakers also house the battery as well as most of the more-serious electronic guts of the unit, allowing the external control "pod" to be much less pod-like (i.e. much lower-profile) than their other models, but makes the speaker housings themselves chubbier. I can get my head in and out of the RPHA without my ears catching on one of the other speaker, although they do occasionally brush against them when first putting the helmet on. Once on, I feel no pressure against me ears. If the helmet works with this setup, almost anything else should be a breeze to fit.

- Speaking of BT controls: Some have mentioned that locating the external BT control pod can potentially run afoul of the 70 ST's sun shade control. In my case, I simply located my comm's control farther to the back, which also works well interns of both removing and replacing the cheekpad on that side.

In all, I'm very happy with this new lid, and can't imagine wanting for more - at least for now. :-)

Not Happy with the Noise Level or Air Flow
After reading many reviews about this helmet being a great helmet for 3/4 to full up I decided to make the switch from 3/4 to fullface. I ride a Cruiser and was looking for something that would help with the wind noise I was dealing with while wearing the 3/4. I also wanted something that would allow good airflow. I got neither of these with this helmet.

Most reviewers talked about how great the noise level was with this helmet. They must have switched from a bicycle helmet or reviewed is while wearing it riding bicycle or walking around their bedroom. After putting 2000 miles in this helmet from short trips to a 700 mile weekend, I hate it. It is so loud even with hearing protection in it is still almost unbearable. The only way I found that reduces wind noise is to ride in the 3/4 position, if I wanted to do that I would have purchased a sport bike.

As for airflow, what airflow. It has been 95* here for the past week with the visor completely closed my head is dripping with sweet within 7 miles of open roads, I need to crack the visor to allow airflow to cool me down. With the visor cracked to allow airflow the noise level is completely unbearable.

Overall I am very unhappy with this helmet choice.

Awesome helmet BUT
The Super Venturi air vents to the top rear are kind of a joke, they don't make a noticeable difference in airflow for me, but that could be a personal thing. Aside from that the only other gripe I have is it's a LOUD helmet, some people have said this an HJC thing and since this is my first helmet from them I have no prior comparison experience, but, versus my AGV K5 it is DEFINITELY louder.
Bottom line, If you are looking for a "sport touring" helmet that can do it all, you cannot go wrong with this purchase.

Awesome Helmet
I've had this helmet for about 3 weeks now and I'll say I love it. One huge reason I bought this helmet is because it comes with a dropdown visor. Yes the visor doesn't go ALL the way down but it covers where you're looking and looking through...since you're supposed to be looking through your turns duh lol. Love the airflow through this helmet, wind noise with all the vents open is non-existent for me...maybe because I have a loud ass exhaust and that's all I hear. I've also installed a Sena 30K on this helmet, the only thing you need to be cautious about is where you're mounting your Bluetooth device, I first had it close to the visor slider but the mount was pinching the cable for it so it was difficult to get the visor to engage. But I've moved the mount for the Sena 30K back further to clear the cable and now it's perfect. Oh did I mention that this helmet is quite. I sometimes ride with the face shield cracked to let a lot of air in because my face is hot, but once you click it closed to me it's very quite...it even makes my loud ass exhaust even less loud. The one complaint I have is that the lower chin curtain/air guard has a thin strip of velcro and that could be better like the one Shoei has that actually clips into the helmet. Other than that I'm one happy customer =)

Great helmet
I love this helmet. It's light, very quiet, good airflow. Nothing negative to say except that you need to buy one size larger just like the HJC RPHA 11. I wear a large in all helmets except these two. I bought the large after watching the video on this helmet. I suggest you buy one size up. I swapped it for an XL and now it's perfect.

Great everyday helmet
The RPHA 70 hits a balance between comfort features and sporty riding. I was pleased to find out that the airflow is great whether I am riding in the tucked or upright position. I like the internal visor it is so much more convenient than keeping multiple visors on hand, I used to use a lightly tinted visor that would let me ride safely in lit areas at night but this changes everything. It also comes with an anti-fog insert which works wonders. The one thing I dislike is the mohawk design on the top of the helmet but it's a personal thing. Shout out to Michael B for the great customer service I had with this helmet.

Almost a Shoei
This helmet, in my opinion, is just as good as a Shoei in terms of fit and finish and features. I took a chance on it and I am really surprised at how nice it is. Lots of bang for the buck.

I had a minor crack on the face shield where the locking mechanism is and Revzilla sent me a new one no questions asked.

It doesn't fog and vents well. Drop down visor is the right tint (pretty dark) and it's quiet.

I used to think that people talking about quiet helmets were insinuating that a quiet helmet was like putting fingers in your ears. No helmet is 100 percent quiet regardless of how much you pay. That's a fact. I would rank this helmet right up there with my Shoei Neotec on that front.

Does the sun visor control prevent you using Sena products in terms of placement?
Polapat L on Nov 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I recently got the RPHA 70 ST, and moved my Sena 3S-W from my HJC CL-17. I ended up putting the external pod farther to the rear on the RPHA, and this is working fine. (BTW, this works well in terms of removal and replacement of the cheekpad on that side.)
How dark is the sun shield in this helmet?
Andrew C on Sep 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's not dark enough for staring at the sun low in the horizon, but I have had no problem commuting (yet). I think it's an appropriate shade for 'all-around' use
Shark Spartan vs rpha 70, which 1 is quieter?
Sa T on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have not worn a Shark helmet, but I can compare it to an Arai , which is known for quiet. I’d say the RPHA comes very close.
When will the HJC RPHA 70 Black Panther hero theme be available? I can't wait!!!
Audley B on Jan 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I am just an owner, not the manugacturer
Does the drop-down sun visor interfere with eyeglasses?
James A on Sep 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, I have to wear glasses and there are no issues when using them with this helmet. FWIW - I also have a Sena 20S installed and it fits perfectly. I highly recommend this helmet.
Can you remove the hjc logo on the front forehead area?
Glenn F on Aug 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I haven’t tried, but have been told you could if you wanted to. It’s a great helmet.
How do you remove the drop-down sun visor to clean or replace?
Roger W on Aug 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I just flip it down and use a micro-fiber cloth on it. I haven't had to remove it to clean it.
I'm surprised to see the sizing guide suggests a small for me (my current Scorpion is a large). Have you found sizing to be accurate?
Jack T on Aug 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I found my sizing to be a Medium as I do with most helmets... The medium was a great fit... with you situation, if you found you self on the edge of small, and beginning of MedIum. I'd go with the Medium.
Anyone comment on airflow? I read somewhere that that big vent on the top is a gimmick and doesn't really do much.
Michael O on Jul 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I live in Amarillo Texas and air flow works good . Coolest helmet I have . Only warm when stopped. This is Good helmet . Did 266 miles down thru Caprock Canyon a week ago wearing the Hjc . It takes a few days to break it in and now feels great I would buy it again.
As A woman I wear a size small. Does this helmet come in different shell sizes? There is a big difference in a small head vs an XML head. Thanks!
A C on Apr 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I am surprised no one at RevZilla could answer this question. All I an see is what is one the website as far as sizes go. I am not a Rep. for HJC. My suggestion would be to go to a retail outlet that has this helmet and try on a couple sizes. then go on line and find the best price, which for me was RevZilla at the time.
