It’s light, and kinda loud
The RPHA 70 ST is a helmet that punches above its weight. It is light, light, light. It has shell construction that competes with more expensive helmets, with the carbon layer in with the composite layers. It makes for an impressive package at the price point. I got the Grandal graphic in Yamaha blue & white. They offer Kawi and Honda colors too, plus a gray that I guess works with any bike. My SENA 20S integrated perfectly too. The speakers hide away nice once the ear patches are removed. The drop down sun visor is an appropriate level of tint, and won’t disappoint in full sun like the IS 17 one, which is too light. The anti-fog insert installs easily and does the job, with no noticeable distortion. The only downside to this excellent lid is that the wind howls through it way more so than the FG 17 I moved up from. I will say, I haven’t installed the chin curtain yet. That may help. That said, the FG 17 didn’t have a chin curtain either, and was still much quieter. What you do get for the noise is real ventilation. The top vent works very well. Almost feels like your hair is blowing in the wind. All in all, it’s a sweet lid.

I kept this over the Shoei GT-Air
My previous helmet is a Shoei RF-1200 that fits me wonderfully and vents fairly well. My two big gripes are switching visors and that it buffets at speed on my naked bike. Knowing that my RF-1200 fits so well my first instinct was to buy a GT Air, well I got rid of it and kept the HJC RPHA 70 instead. Now that I have over 500 miles on it I am pleased with my choice.

The main reason I kept the HJC is fit. This helmet fits like the RF-1200 while the GT-Air is narrower and tighter in the jaw area. I struggled to get the GT-Air on comfortably while the RPHA 70 goes on snug but not uncomfortable. So if you have a little wider/squarer jaw the HJC is the better choice.

I am also very pleased to report that at "spirited" riding speeds my head moves around less with the RPHA 70 than my old RF-1200. I find the angular design to be aggressive and modern which I like. The shape does not seem to cause any issues with head checks or catch wind at weird angles.

Venting and weight are MUCH BETTER than expected. This thing is super light. The visor vent and forehead vents work wonderfully well. The vents under the wings work, but seem backwards in terms of what vents best. If you are moving quickly, keeping them closed increases airflow across your head, but open them at lower speeds. The vent at the bottom of chin is barely noticeable but does work.

I only have two fairly minor complaints. First I wish the sunvisor mechanism was up near the visor hinge like on other helmets so there is no possible interference with comm systems. Second I wish that more of the graphics available to the rest of the world were available here in the USA. Everything else is great.

Great helmet for the money
The helmet has a nice snug fit and feels very light on my head. My previous helmet was a HJC CL-17 which weighed approx 1950 grams and this one weighs approx. 1540 grams. The included chin curtain is much nicer than the one I bought for the CL-17. I also wanted to point out that the helmet padding itself forms a mini chin curtain to direct the wind away from your neck. I found the helmet to be significantly quieter than my CL-17 on the highway and I dont get the air drag when turning my head at speed. I wish they had a wider variety of graphic choices like the RPHA 11.

Hard to Argue for the Money
I wish I could give this helmet 4.5 stars because it is quite nearly the perfect helmet for me. When I set out to find a new helmet to replace my trusty Shoei Qwest I had a few criteria:

1. It must have a center locking shield
2. A drop down sunvisor and available light smoke shield
3. Pinlock in the box

It's surprisingly difficult to find a Sport Touring helmet that has a center locking shield. Most helmets with center locks are more track focused, but I like to have the option to open/close my shield with either hand. The locking mechanism on the 70 ST is excellent in my opinion. It's a very positive lock along with plenty of strong detents throughout the shield travel. The city position is very strong- I can't imagine it closing itself under any condition.

The drop down sun visor works smoothly, and is a great improvement over the mechanism HJC uses in some of their models. Cable operation is the only way to go in my opinion. Coverage is pretty good especially at the center in front of my eyes. The side of the sun visor swoops upwards which at first I didn't like, but now I find that my mirrors tend to be in my field of view outside the sunvisor. I like the clear view this gives me of my mirrors.

In addition to a drop down sunvisor I wanted the option of adding a light smoke visor. The drop down sunvisor isn't quite dark enough for my taste in bright sunlight, but when combined with a light smoke visor it's about as dark, maybe darker, as the dark smoke of my Shoei Qwest. This is perfect for me as at night I don't find the light smoke shield too dark to be able to see safely. Now I never have to worry about swapping shields. .

The flatter curvature of the 70 ST's visor makes the field of view very clear with no distortion. It's a noticeable improvement over my Qwest.

It's been an usually cold spring in Ohio so I haven't a lot of chance to test the airflow, but the few days I've been able to open the vents it has flown decent air behind my Multistrada's windscreen. I imagine on a naked bike this helmet would flow buckets of air.

Cold weather performance of this helmet is excellent. Compared to the Qwest it's warm, and thanks to the included Pinlock (or HJC's equivalent I guess) fogging hasn't been an issue riding in temperatures down into the mid 30's. Even the drop down sunvisor hasn't presented any fogging for me even as my bike's dash warns me of potential ice on the road.

Comfort for the most part is pretty good. The liner materials feel at least as good as I'm used to with Shoei and quite a bit better than Bell an Speed and Strength helmets I have as backups. On longer rides I don't notice the helmet being too heavy or giving me any hotspots from the helmet itself.

One issue I've had on the comfort front is when it comes to comm units, and for a helmet that HJC is targeting at the sport touring market this is a bit of a bummer. With my Cardo Packtalk's speakers I notice that the speaker pockets are not as deep as my Bell Qualifier for instance. It took quite a bit of adjusting to find a position that was wearable with speakers installed. Depending on head shape this may or may not be an issue for you, but I may have to replace my speakers with something more low profile.

Speaker pocket issue aside I really can't find too much to complain about. The Grandal graphic looks pretty mean without being too loud. The satin finish looks really clean and doesn't collect the fingerprints my matte Shoei does. I look forward to many miles with the RPHA.

Nice helmet, but not perfect
I bought this at a local shop since I have a hard time finding helmets that fit me well and wanted to try them on. I have worn Bell and Scorpion helmets for the last 7 or 8 years as they are all I could find that fit my head perfectly, but my Bell Star Carbon is just no good for touring, super loud, and flows a ton of air even with the vents closed. I really wanted a Shoei but they all fit a little too round for my head. I found this helmet in the corner and found the fit on the crown of my head was perfect, just like the Bells and Scorpions, it is a bit tighter around the jaw though as it has a pretty angular chin bar.

I bought it and took it for a couple rides, very comfortable liner, the shield and drop down visor are very crisp with no distortion and a wide view, and it flows a ton of air with the vents open, but when they're closed it will keep you warm.

I know it's the new trend but I don't like the center locking visor on the helmet, it should be on the left like every other helmet ever. This helmet is ridiculously quiet from outside noise, when the visor is closed, I can barely hear the radio on my R1200RT on max volume, it really isolates you from outside noise. There is a decent amount of wind noise, but not as bad as my Star. The one thing that bugs me is that it would give a weird reverberation from my engine at certain RPMs with the visor closed, with it open it wasn't as noticeable, not sure what that's about.

After wearing it for about an hour, my jaw was a bit sore from how narrow the chin bar is, I'm hoping with more time and rides in it the foam will break in and that pressure point will go away, otherwise this won't be a long term lid for me, everything else about it I like, but if you have a really wide jaw, I'd avoid this helmet.

Compared to my 5 year old Icon Airmada... not great
Helmet fits great and looks cool.
Not great for naked bikes.
Based on the other reviews, I was expecting a lot less wind noise and a lot more air flow through the helmet. I'm on a naked SV650, and on the freeway it sounds like there is a tornado inside the helmet but doesn't feel like it. The helmet is quiet under 40 mph, blocks most exhaust and chain noise, not a lot of wind noise. Also, helmet gets whipped pretty hard doing shoulder checks on the freeway, only aerodynamic facing forward. I've tried tilting the helmet up and down to see if I can minimize the noise and drag and it doesn't really change. It comes with a fog insert for the inside of the visor and an extra piece for the chin curtain. Put those on before you even get on the bike. Other reviews rave about airflow through the helmet... nope its not great.. better than my Simpson Bandit, but that didn't have vents on top or in the back.

Great helmet IF you wear earplugs
I bought this helmet after I had a warranty issue with another brand. As the revzilla video says it does flow a lot of air, but it is LOUD!!! I wear earplugs so this is not a huge issue for me and otherwise I am very happy with the helmet.

It´s a good helmet overall.
First of all, thanks Revzilla for Price Matching.

I like the design. The reviews were very helpful. I´m reasonably happy with the helmet.

I bought a L size as I had another L size HJC helmet before. This HJC RPHA 70 ST felt like it was crushing my jaw. A little commuting ride made my jaw muscles ache. So, I thought I made a mistake with sizing. I then decided to put a ball inside to make the padding softer. It stayed in there for 3 days and now it is way more comfortable. The side pads are very fluffy on the bottom so you will have issues putting it on and taking it off. It helps with noise but still uncomfortable.

In terms of noise level, it is somehow quieter than my late helmet but still not good. If you close the face shield all the way it becomes louder, didn't expect that. I ride a DUCATI Monster 797 and the riding position is more upright than super-sport bikes. Its more like a stunt bike with pro taper handlebars. There is one heck of a complaint with noise. The helmet is squeaky on one side. Not sure where it comes from but it´s annoying.

Ventilation is barely enough, not bad but still not great. Don´t feel the top back ventilation very useful right now. Will have to wait for colder months to see if it is useful.

The Pinlock system didn´t work right with the provided pinlock shield. It is supposed to create an air gap with the helmets shield. There was a spot where the two parts were touching and created a spot. It was right next to my eye so I just took it off. Even though the shields were brand new, no scratches and perfectly clean, the view was fuzzy. Even more with the sun shield and prescription glasses. That´s 4 layers of no-no. Trash

Durability, there is a small crack in the sun shield mechanism with 2 weeks commuting use.

I like the emergency pads, the shield is fast to change, cool graphics, good weight, overall this is a decent helmet. Hope you find useful my review. I might sound a little harsh but I wrote things that I would have found helpful at the time of the purchase. Have a great day brothers!

Does the RPHA ST have speaker cutouts like the 11Pro?
Jeffrey H on Mar 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes it has speaker cutouts with pre installed velcro in them, so installing your speakers is as easy as dropping them in.
Which visor fits this model?
A shopper on Oct 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The HJC-26 ST - although, if you don't mind posts for tear offs, the same HJC-26 from the RPHA 11 Pro will fit this helmet as well. The ST specific visors won't be out until toward the end of November 2017.
What is the DB LEVEL for the Helmet, my Schubert C3 is rated at 85?
Andrew K on Dec 3, 2017
What is the weight on the RPHA ST helmet?
And does the ST helmet come with a chin curtain and breath guard like the 11 pro?
Jeffrey H on Mar 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It does come with a small chin chin curtain already installed and there's a larger one in the box that you can add on that forms a really tight seal. the only breath guard is the little nose piece at the bottom of the eye port. You may not need a breath guard since it also comes with a pinlock in the box that you can install.
