Welcome to News Cycles, Common Tread’s roundup of what’s happening on our servers and everywhere else. Every Friday, look for a collection of news, stories, and all things moto from around the web. This week: Dakar, hideous motorcycles, and some New Year's resolutions.
Dakar season is nearly upon us
Stage One of the 2019 Dakar starts on January 7, and the world will be watching as racers navigate the terrain of Peru over 10 days. They've changed a few rules this year, including a UTV class (not SxS) and a "marathon" stage in which racers will have to leave their crews behind and service their machines alone. Dakar’s site says the race will be covered by NBC Sports in the United States.
Bike-urious presents: Ugliest Bikes of All Time reader poll
If you’re new to Abhi Eswarappa’s Bike-urious, here’s a good introduction. Normally focused on interesting motorcycles of all types, the most recent article rounds up some of the most… aesthetically challenged motorcycles ever made. Most of them are spot on, the ugliest is no surprise, but I would happily park a handful of them in my garage all the same.
Video: Rebuilding an old BMW boxer engine
Winter project season is here, and YouTuber Nils Holmann is already hard at work on some engine rebuilds. If you’re the sort of person who watches engine builds instead of sleeping, check this video out, and maybe the rest of the channel if the night is young. I found his Moto Guzzi engine build to be an interesting comparison to the Beemer.
2019 Supercross preview: The four horsemen and the dark horses
Supercross starts tomorrow, so get up to speed with a look at the riders and races that will decide the 2019 season.
New Year's resolutions for 2019
New year, new rides, new goals, and new bikes. Common Tread and a host of riders from all over the map share their two-wheeled plans for the coming year. Maybe you'll find some inspiration, or if you've already got a game plan, we'd love to hear about it.
Thanks for reading; that's all for this week! If you've got feedback or moto news you'd like to share, shoot an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Check back for more News Cycles every Friday.
