BANG FOR THE BUCK
I'm not made of money but I don't mind spending a little extra on quality, dependable gear that will stand the test of time (and a crash). That being said, I would agree that $500 is a lot of money to spend on a jacket that arguably lacks flexibility of application. I haven't owned it long enough to wear in warmer weather but I doubt I would want to. However, I bought it at close out price for $350 and well my friend, now we are talking business. That price makes this awesome piece of protection a great buy for one that is interested in temperate weather riding.
My initial out-of-the-box observation was how nice the outer material is. It feels as stiff and durable as cordura but it's much smoother to the touch. I have never felt waxed cotton before. I like it. I tried it on and I didn't even realize that it had a full complement of D30 armor (including back protector) until I started squeezing the impact points. Very impressive how low profile the armor is. I hope I never have an accident in this because it would be such a shame to ruin such a wonderful product. But in that event I have full confidence that I will be road-rash free.
Pockets, Pockets and more pockets. 4 pockets on the front (one on the chest is slanted for easy access). Exterior pockets are secured by a very positive click of the snaps. Though the material is waterproof I would question the integrity of the exterior pockets in a torrential downpour. There are also two generously sized interior pockets. There is a belt with concealable buckle that seems more like a styling gimmick as opposed to an attempt of added functionality. But I will admit it looks nice and it gives the look of the jacket more character when the waist is slightly tapered. The closure is secured by a quality zipper and buttons that run the length of the front. The collar is secured by two snaps placed closer together than the rest and it is very secure when riding. The collar also has a very nice feel to it but its not so tight that it rubs your necks and annoys you.
As I mentioned above. I would not recommend this piece for riding in warmer weather. There are no air vents and the material is not very conducive for allowing much air flow. For colder, more temperate weather (I believe the intended purpose), I think its perfect. There is enough room inside for multiple layers. I often wear a t shirt and sweatshirt and it does not in any way feel restrictive. There is little insulation integrated into the liner so I believe they intentionally left plenty of room for layers. To complete the preparation for cold weather, wear over-the-cuff gauntlet style gloves and balaclava or neck gaiter over the collar (not tucked in). I have commuted comfortably in temperatures as low as 34F or 1C. I will push it more into the winter but it hasn't gotten below freezing yet. But when I'm all kitted out and air tight I don't even need to worry about how cold it is outside in the morning, most times I don't even check.
I don't feel I need to speak much on style. I feel like it compliments my triumph and personal style wonderfully. I would even go so far as to say that it completes my look. Its very plain. But not so much to the point of it being boring to look at. The quilted material is visually pleasing. There is minimal branding insignias and I don't look like a travelling product advertisement. Some manufacturers should take notes.
When it comes to tops I hover between a L and XL (depending on cut and brand naturally). But this is an easy large. It fits slightly big. I'm 6'2, 195. Athletic build. Sleeve length is perfect when grasping the handles. Waist is as long as the sleeves so it extends a few inches below the belt line. Only those with the broadest of shoulders would find it constricting.
To cap this off. I love this thing. I wish there was a video (but sadly there is not) so I tried to be as descriptive as possible. I hope I have influenced some interested buyers to make their decision. Don't miss this awesome deal because of the lack of information on the product. I have no ragrets.
