What's this?

Shoei X-14 Assail Helmet

There are few helmets in the past few years that have generated as much interest as has the introduction of the Shoei X-14, and for good reason. It is a true juggernaut of the track and every line, every angle, and every curve has been specially crafted to get the most out of you and your machine. It’s no wonder that the most sophisticated racers in the world are already rocking it at the highest levels. As if that wasn’t enough, Shoei has also introduced a handful of new graphics to accompany its release in 2016.

One of the most noticeable graphics is going to be seen with the Shoei X-14 Assail Helmet. This graphic gives the term “Fast” a whole new meaning. Engineered to convey rocket-blasters of mind-spinning motion and laser shows of colorful exuberance from every angle, the Assail graphic is one that is anything but boring. If you are a rider who has as much pep as the engine in your bike, the Shoei Assail graphic in the X14 might just be the racing helmet for you.

Aerodynamic Shell Design

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel testing and professional riders’ feedback
  • Dual-Layer Multi-Density EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Four shell and five EPS liner sizes present increased fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes
  • Impact absorbing EPS liner throughout the entire chin bar with Cheek Pad Cooling System
  • Standard Rear Flaps can be replaced with optional, narrower flaps to customize aerodynamics, depending
  • on rider preference and track demands
  • Removable Lower Air Spoiler can be affixed to the chin bar to improve aerodynamic stabilization

Ventilation System

  • Upper air intake vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Top outlet vent is separate from the Rear Stabilizer, allowing it to be positioned for optimum flow-through ventilation
  • Cheek Pad Cooling System features channels cut through the EPS liner and corresponding air holes in the cheek pad foam, cooling and clearing warm, humid air away from the rider’s face
  • Breath guard and chin curtain included

Lightweight, Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+)

  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers into shell construction for a structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid, and resilient

3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System

  • The entire interior lining (cheek pads, upper liner, and chin strap covers) can be removed for cleaning and replaced with optional thicknesses for a customizable fit
  • Cheek pads and center pad can be manipulated to allow riders to adjust the position/angle of the helmet by up to four degrees, increasing the upper field of vision while tucked in extreme racing positions
  • Comfortable, 3D Max-Dry helmet liner material absorbs and dissipates sweat and moisture twice as fast as
  • traditional nylon interiors, keeping aggressive riders cool and dry
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick Release System) allows emergency medical personnel to easily remove the
  • cheek pads from an injured rider’s helmet, enabling the helmet to be more easily removed from the head
  • Extra comfort provided by ear pads, removable breath guard, and chin curtain

Standard Chin-Strap Clip

  • Neatly secures chin strap

CWR-F Shield and QR-E System

  • QR-E base plate system allows for tool-less shield removal and installation
  • Exclusive patent pending Vortex Generators on shield reduce air friction
  • Scratch-resistant coating and Pinlock EVO Fog Resistant System
  • 99% protection from harmful UV A & B rays
  • All-new double shield locking unwanted shield openings

great helmet.
One of the top rated helmets you can buy for slightly less money than other helmets in the range. Cut outs for head phones plus available transition visor that works great.

SAVED MY LIFE - Very track oriented
I've owned one RF-1200, two X-Fourteens, and one GT-Air. I've owned several other helmets in my years of riding as well but I permanently moved to Shoei because I've invested money into the interchangable visors and pinlock system.

The RF-1200 and the X-14 went down in crashes. After I crashed in my RF-1200, the X-14 was released. I like the look of the X-14 so I purchased it. After I crashed my X-14 I purchased another because 1. Insurance reimbursed me for the helmet, AND because I had the money to purchase the GT-Air for everyday wear.

Immediately when I purchased my X-14 after crashing in my RF-1200, I was excited to wear the helmet but reality was that the helmet was not as comfortable as the RF-1200. The helmet fit tighter and hurt my wide jaw even after purchasing the Shoei 31mm cheek pads. Getting my ears in is a pain because the helmet always folds my ears inward and requires me to jiggle the helmet in uncomfortable ways before it sits nicely.

This helmet collects sweat easily and stays quite damp for some time. I don't know why, I use a fan under my helmet to keep it driER. The worst feeling on the track is putting on a sweaty helmet for the third session. Your helmet is already soaking, and you have another session afterwards. It's so wet, it makes you want to skip the 5th session and go home early.

The cut outs for the speakers are for some odd reason smaller than standard. If you use Sena helmets you need to modify your speakers to get them to fit because these are smaller than other helmet cut outs. Terrible design in my opinion.

The fit will keep the helmet on your head, it did so nicely in the crash and I was unharmed. The helmet fell on the tall end and broke the wind diffuser on the back.

Enough of the bad, the helmet obviously has its goods.

The helmet has good ventilation though remembering which direction you need to direct your vents will always be annoying. You never know if you have to move what flap up or down.

The helmet is quiet for a race helmet. It's not as quiet as the RF-1200 or the GT-Air, but it's quiet for a helmet in general.

It comes with a chin curtain and an chin diffuser. The diffuser looks awesome and helps deflect wind. The chin rubber diffuser stays on 95% of the time unless it's cold.

Aero- This helmet is stable at speeds. Riding north of 130mph on the track this helmet feels solid while riding either my Panigale or my Monster.

I can make head checks easily in traffic, but not as easily as my RF-1200. As rule of thumb, when I turn a corner, I stop turning my head when my helmet hits my shoulder. If your track has sharp turns you'll know how important good aerodynamics are when you're hard on the brakes, turning your head into the corner. You don't want the wind to push your head around at this point.

If you're a racer or an avid track rider, get this helmet. If you just want to look like a racer on the street, get this helmet. Don't buy this helmet if you want an everyday comfortable helmet.

Trackday Helmet
I bought the helmet as my trackday helmet so aerodynamic for stability during high speed is a must!

I'm an avid fan of Japanese helmets as they fit my head better and all of my friends wearing Japanese helmets during a crash never seems to have any critical head injuries

First thing that I noticed right when I unbox it was how beautiful the graphic and paint finish of the helmet. Shoei never let me down on this department

Second impression was the ventilation works wonderful even at low speed. The mouth vents and brow vents flows tons of air, however the top vents is not as great as my Arai Corsair V.

However, after track run I didn't sweat as much as I was with any other helmets. The cheek vents that I didn't notice during low speed works their wonder making my face less sweaty. Shoei has done their homework in the ventilation area.

I am very impressed with the stability of the helmets on 120 mph plus ride. I've had my high speed run with a Shoei GT-Air and Arai Corsair V. This was nothing like the two mentioned. It's completely steady and the chin spoiler reduce the amount of air coming from under the helmets significantly.

One thing that I wish Shoei had improve is that almost any Shoei helmets that I've had always seem to have noise coming from the side of the visor

Overall, its a wonderful helmets and it suits Sport-bike rider better

Shoei X-14 review
Great helmet. Prior hat was RF1100 & this X-14 stokes it. Aerodynamics is superb, I don't race but tour & very noticeable stability at 65+ especially 75-80. Very well ventilated, quite & fits great. No problem with my SENA 20S, padding in hat is great.

Only concern is noise level
I bought this helmet back in may 2016, tried it several times to check on the noise level. but still i feel it has noise but i don't know what is the exact measurement for noise?
do i have to start once i am on 100 kmh which is 60 mph. or when i am on low rate speed limits ?

if anyone could help with that so i can put the proper answer.
otherwise this item is great in terms of shape and weight plus aerodynamic (tuck position).

Great product
My favourite piece of equipment. Noise level is low at highway speed. Well put together. No rattles or squeaks. Extremely comfortable, and lots of adjustable vents to keep you cool or warm you up.

when does the helmet release?
Shaowei Z on Jan 26, 2016
I ride a 2015 Multistrada 1200s. Sport touring with a sport windscreen. I do a lot of weekend canyon riding as well as thousands of miles of touring. Currently have an RF-1200, but am really thinking of moving up to this. I plan on doing some track days in the future with the multi haha. I love the black/red color scheme and the looks and features of this new helmet. Is it too much for me though? Is it going to drive me crazy sitting in an upright position for thousands of miles? Appreciate the help
Brandon B on Apr 9, 2016
Can the shoei logo/sticker on the front of the helmet be removed or is it underneath the clear coat?
Tim S on Feb 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If it is the same as the white one then the sticker is not under clear coat and therefore should be removable.
when does the helmet release?
A shopper on Jan 26, 2016
Does the 14 fit the same way as the 12 did ?
A C on Feb 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No it does not. The x-12 was running about one size larger and was more of a neutral shape. The X-14 shows to be more round and a little on the small side of things. according to lid picker dot com's free data page
Would this be uncomfortable to wear in an upright seating position?
Jared M on Aug 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's extremely comfortable to wear in an upright seating position, actually! The benefits of this helmet are designed for the tuck but when you're upright and at speed it's like a warm knife through butter. I've a Bell Bullitt and well- as you can see the differences in shapes (and styles), the X-Fourteen is a race thoroughbred helmet, light, snug, and unlike a bowling ball tumbling through molasses this is a very pointed-arrow through space.

I ride a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer and during inclement weather and long days of traveling (thousands of miles) this helmet has been very well worth the investment- I'm certain it will hold up even on track days based on wild blitzing (I don't recommend that,...FYI) through the highways and open road of the CA-101 (to CA-154) along Santa Barbara.

Buy it- buy it solid (it's also a bit cheaper,...) and design whatever you like on it. Easy-peezee! Enjoy it and you won't regret this investment!
Does this fit the same way as the RF1200 does?
Matthew Z on Apr 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I can't comment about a comparison to the RF1200. I can however say that the fit does compare to the RF 1100. I have an extra large in both. The X-14 can be adjusted so that the brow sits higher on the forehead which is great for track riding. Much better vision while in a race tuck.
