Bell Qualifier DLX MIPS Helmet

The Bell Qualifier DLX Helmet comes jam packed with the great features of the Qualifier and also includes the Transitions Adaptive Face Shield at an impressive price.

The RevZilla gear specialists have been rolling through miles and time zones faster than Marquez powers through laps at Sachsenring, which is to say pretty darn fast. Having just returned from Cologne, Germany and Intermot 2014, they have seen the best of what’s new, what’s fun, and what is worth reporting in the ever-expanding moto-verse. From bikes cranking out 300 hp, to the tip of the spear with regards to new helmets, apparel, and motorcycle accessories, they saw it, rocked it, and are back here at RevZilla HQ ready to keep you informed so that you can make the most out of your time on two wheels.

One of the hottest items from the International Motorcycle, Scooter, and E-Bike Fair (Intermot) was the Bell Qualifier DLX Helmet. When it was unveiled in Germany it was shown to have several incredibly cool features that were not applicable to previous iterations. Most notably, it was announced that this helmet would come with a free Transitions photochromatic face shield and the ability to house a Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth communication unit (with the proper adapter plate). This is far-out for a helmet of any ilk, much less one that will come at an entry-level price point. Both of these features will offer a massive value-add to an already popular helmet. What’s that you say, you don’t rock a Sena but prefer the Cardo Q3 instead? Fair enough, to each their own. Bell has you covered for that too, as they have announced that an adapter plate will be offered which will make the latter compatible with the DLX Helmet as well.

Great Helmet
This is my first helmet, but I've worn others. This is the best helmet I've worn. At first it's a little tight, but once it wears in a little, it feels so comfortable. I've had this helmet for almost a year and it's great. Highly recommend this.

Fabulous Helmet.....if you only need one, try this one.
I picked up a Bell Qualifier DLX w/MIPS (Matte Black) recently as the Triumph dealer nearby was having a closeout sale (Sorry Revzilla).
This helmet was already on my radar and I was skeptical to try it out as I thought it sounded too good to be true.
Thankfully, it is exactly that, so good, so comfy, so quiet and so solid. I love this thing. The transitions shield is a HUGE perk!....This thing rocks!

Excellent Helmet For The Price
This was an excellent helmet, comfortable, good airflow and low fogging, the photochromic lens darkens quick enough to react to coming into bright light and clears fast enough to handle riding into tunnels. The whole visor system feels sturdy and easy to use with visor removal for cleaning or swapping done quite quickly. The style with the matte black and the visor (when exposed to daylight) a nice smoky black overall is quite nice especially when riding a bike with similar styling (think GSX S-1000Z). Overall quite a good helmet whether it be for cruising/commuting or for racing down the freeway at ungodly speeds.

Great value, great fit, nice features
I've always worn Bell helmets, since the 1980's. Bell have really good helmets at great prices. My last helmet was the Bell Revolver, 7 years old, and it was time for a new helmet. I looked at Bell Star helmets but the fit was really tight, especially at the lower crown of my head. I found out that the Star line was really designed for the track and needed to be slightly tight for high speed falls. The Qualifier fits much better if you intend to ride mostly on streets. I've ridden about 400 miles so far and the fit is just getting better and better.

Could have been great!
This will not be an overly detailed review, but I will try to hit the major points about this helmet based on more than 5,000 miles in it.

It's loud. Holy crap is it loud. My HJC FG-17 is much more quiet than this, and actually the helmet I have gone back to for now.

It's larger than avg in my opinion. My HJC is a large and this is a large, it will wobble around on my head and large gusts of wind seems to lift it. I didn't feel this initially but now that it's all worn in it is way too loose.

I feel like it vents air well and I rode with it through a Florida summer, so no complaints there.

It's stylish, I definitely like the profile and overall aesthetic of this helmet.

Hands down the best feature is the transition lens. I want a lens like this on every helmet I own, I enjoyed it that much.

I hope these points help someone. =)

Excellent helmet for the money.
I'm very happy with my Bell Qualifier DLX. Sizing was spot on for me and the first thing I noticed was how light it was. Chief complaint from others is the noise but personally I don't have an issue with it and have had much louder helmets. Airflow is awesome and the vents are easy to operate with gloves. Although I constantly forget if it's up or down to open them since the brow and jaw operate in opposite directions. I don't use the communication option, had no plans too so pretty much ignore it. Looks simple enough though. I love the transition lens but have gotten it stuck a little darker than I like in below freezing temps so keep that in mind if you plan to use it in the cold. Overall the comfort, weight, features, MIPS technology make this a great buy for the price.

Good helmet
First full face, always ran half-shell helmets, as for my first delve into full face, this is an amazing fit and comfort and don't have to deal with bugs (Florida)

I know theres reviews out there where they say its too loud but its a lot quieter than my last helmet. you just have to get the right size and not something too big. I absolutely love this helmet and am very glad that I chose this one after looking around.

Not bad but I expected much better.
I have had this helmet for about 4 months now. There are some really good things I love about the helmet.
The pros...
1. The transitions lens works amazing! I was skeptical and thought I’d need my rx sunglasses while riding in the central cal sun but it is better than I ever thought.
2. The helmet is pretty comfortable. It’s not a Shoei so it’s not fair to compare it to something much more expensive. But for its price point it seems like it’s got the padding in the right spots and gives a snug but not too snug fit.
So now the cons....
1.I live in a hot climate and have a bald and sweating head. I still can not feel airflow while I’m riding... it doesn’t matter how I position my head. It just always feels like there’s no movement. Just mho.
2. Everyone says it’s a loud helmet, and they’re 100% correct. It is one of those helmets where wearing plugs is not an option it’s a necessity. Especially if you have a Bluetooth. I actually took mine out of the prefabricated hole cause it let in so much air I couldn’t even hear anything or anyone. So now it’s clip mounted directly under the hole. Kinda stupid I know.
3. Craftsmanship/durability. Now your results may vary but I have had 2 separate pieces essentially come apart on me. Granted they aren’t 100% necessary part thank God, but I’d expect more from a company like Bell. And if they don’t do the little things well, what can one expect from the big ones?
The parts are the tag on the D-rings to release the helmet all but fell off, and the belt loop looking piece that is also on the straps ripped off and I can’t even remember even using it.
I like the helmet itself. It looks good, and I hope I never have to find out how it functions in a crash but the mips tech seems to make scientific sense if nothing else. Let’s just hope it hold up better than the other minor pieces.
