What's this?

Shoei RF-1200 Terminus Helmet

The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2015 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the RF-1200 on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Quietness

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the Shoei RF-1200 help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

Ventilation

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Features:

  • Four shell sizes
  • Dual density EPS liner
  • Superior ventilation
  • 3D Max-Dry System II Liner
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System) CWR-1 Shield System
  • Neatly secure chin strap
  • Includes Pinlock pins and lens insert
  • Includes breath guard and chin curtain
  • Snell M2015 and DOT Certified

Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, Shoei products can only be shipped to addresses within the United States.

Great Helmet, Excellent Build Quality
The video sums it up well. Great helmet, very quiet, fits snug. SNEL approved, and it has some great graphics and colors to choose from. Keeps stable at high speeds, and your head stays fairly cool with all vents open. My only gripe is the shoulder cut outs. They are fantastic except it makes it so you can't mount a Sena unit on it via the clamp. If you don't plan on using a Sena then you'll love the cut outs as they help with head checking and mobility.

So glad I sprung for a Shoei!
I got the RF1200 looking for a helmet that was light, Snell rated, had some kind of anti fog feature and had speaker cutouts. I am definitely not disappointed with this helmet.. The airflow is great; I can feel the air passing over my scalp when all the vents are open. You're going to want to put the chin curtain on around 50 degrees though because that is one area that gets maybe a little too much air at lower temps.
It still has a cool shape and I love that it came with a Pinlock visor. I probably would have just bought a better visor off the bat if it hadn't.
I wore it all throughout my MSF course (~10 hours of riding) and a couple half hour rides afterward it was broken in. Before that, it was pretty snug to the point of giving me a slight headache but I'm glad I stuck with it. It also does help dampen the noise coming off my bike and if I put in my earbuds before I put the helmet on, I'm able to push the cheek pad aside enough to reach in and adjust my earbud back into my ear. That's probably not a good habit but for all those that we're wondering.
I got the white Terminus graphic and it looks sick! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and I haven't had any problems with airflow or the snaps on the strap. I mean at 90+ degrees my head does get a little sweaty but I mean you do have foam and a plastic casing on your head; besides I think that's a fair tradeoff for good protection.
On sunny days I can fit my sport sunglasses inside and still use my clear visor and I don't have to let go of the clipons to do head checks when I switch lanes, which means I also get good peripheral vision in this helmet.

Night and Day Difference!
I absolutely love this helmet! My previous one was an AGV K3, which was good. However it was very loud and had a tendency for the visor to fly open during head checks at speed. The RF-1200 took care of those issues, and the venting is absolutely superb. Also, the included pin lock visor means having my visor fog up is a thing of the past.

Coming from an Arai RX-Q
After waiting for over two years for Arai to come out with a pinlock Transitions shield, the Shoei RF-1200 went on sale and was not to be passed up. (For some reason, Arai made their pinlock INSERTS out of the Transitions material, to fit behind their 99.99% UV blocking shields, and couldn't figure out why they didn't darken well.....It's OK to think, folks!).
Size: straight transfer between brands: if the large RX-Q fit, then the large RF-1200 will be just fine. Makes sense, but still good to have verified.
Fit: The Shoei is slightly more snug, but more comfortable. Seems counter-intuitive, but still true. Maybe due to a more even distribution of pressure and lack of pressure points.
Weight: The Shoei seems noticeably lighter.
Field of view: significantly wider. Not just due to the size of the eye/face port: the field of view within the sealing rim of the Shoei pinlock insert is wider, so that that rim on the insert becomes unnoticeable in use. With the Arai, you always see that rim, and it subjectively constrains your view.
Shield: thicker, more robust on the Shoei. The step-click lock hinge allows the shield to stay where you put it--using friction to hold the Arai shield in place is just not dependable. Although I've worn Arai for years and have mastered the unique shield change technique it requires, the Shoei shield connection is just more positive and robust
Airflow: Better--the ports seem to be bigger. Also the vent covers on the Shoei are bigger (easier to manipulate with glove on), more robust, and exhibit more positive locking in the on and off positions. The small rockers on the Arai got to where they would just blow open at speed after a couple of years--not fun when you're bald and the air is 30 degrees!
Noise level: significantly quieter. The wind and road noise present with the RX-Q (distracting even with ear plugs) was just not there with the RF-1200--made for a much more relaxing ride. (I wear ear plugs all the time anyway, but the difference is still welcome...)
Today, Shoei gives up nothing to Arai when it comes to quality, and when it comes to features Shoei definitely did their homework--glad I made the change!

Note: in addition to coming with a pin-lock ready shield, the Shoei helmet thoughtfully includes the pin-lock insert, too. Other brands have not included this rather obvious accessory, so ordered one when I ordered the helmet, and now have a spare...

I would buy a second one!
Bought this helmet few months ago on a Motorcycle event here in NYC. I have a Ducati Monster 821 for about a year and needed a new helmet to match the matte black with style, greater protection and quality. Before, I had a simple HJC which I purchased while I had a cruiser in Florida. The difference was huge in fit, comfort, weight and noise. I feel like buying a very expensive helmet for a reasonable value. It turned me down just a little as the helmet is very fit and it's taking a while to smooth the cheech area. However that's cold weather's fault. I'm not having much chances to ride in the northeast with my equipment. It's definitely a great product for it's price for all weather seasons.

Excellent Helmet of Superior Quality
The Shoei RF-1200 Terminus helmet is the most expensive.. But the best helmet Ive ever owned. You truly get what you pay for. The design not only goes great with my GSXR 750, but the helmet is so lightweight, coupled with the XL face shield, that it literally feels like you have no helmet on. Minus the bugs, wind, and debris in your face. Like when a bird flies into a window that doesnt exist in their mind.Great helmet, Should this one ever meet its end ill definitely be looking into purchasing another.

Outstanding
I've been wearing the RF-1200 for a few months now and its held up very well. It is very light and comfortable and the field of view is excellent with the new shield design. Installing the pinlock into the shield makes it fog free and on the hotter days it flows a decent amount of air. I was looking for a higher quality helmet with longevity and I believe I've found it.

My last helmet was an RF-700. Form, fit and function was awesome. I loved it. I used it for over 10 years & was hard to get rid of... But someone bought it at a flea market & I am looking for to the new technology Shoei for life! Ride on !!

Chose the black version. Previously used the RF-1000 and enjoyed it quite a bit. Needed a replacement so decided to upgrade to the RF-1200. Went with the Gold visor to match the Black/Gold Helmet color. Looks great. Feels great. Has much wider view angle than the RF-1000 did. More vents - great air flow. Noise levels still kept to a minimum.

I have a Shoei X-11 and it is over 8 years old so it was past time to upgrade. Tried the helmet on and it fit my head better than my X-11. Now that I have ridden in the RF-1200 I love it (though the ventilation is not as good as the X-11) but well worth the trade off

I was going to get air brush graphic helmet but decided to wait another year. I have a modular Shoei and it is perfect for me. I wanted a full face now and this has the graphic I like and I hope the visibility to get notice by automobile drivers--as a motorcycle rider I want to do whatever it takes to prevent an accident so I hope this and other items will do just that.

Does the 2016 iterations (latest graphics models e.g. Intense) have a different pocket size for speakers (e.g. Sena 10/20S) than older versions of RF1200 (e.g. Terminus)? Any other updates?

I'm just curious about Wind Noise in this helmet? my current bell vortex is quite loud and I'm looking for a more quite piece.
Chase S on Feb 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi there,

I can tel you that this is a pretty quiet helmet. I believe you will be thrilled to move into this one coming from your Bell. The Rf 1200 is greatly improved over its last generation and has a better neck roll, chin guard, and all around dampening than any other helmet I've been in. I ride a loud Ducati Panigale and this Helmet is more than comfortable on 4 hour rides through the twisties. Hope this helps.
Where can I find different sized head pads? Thanks!
A C on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can order the various size interior padding from Shoei's US website.

Hope this helps.

Do the RF1200 models have speaker pockets in them?
A shopper on Nov 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes they do however if you have the Sena smh10 the speakers are a bit bigger than the pocket which has sort of a taper to it. However once you get the cheek pads in the speakers stay in place.
