Shark Skwal Instinct Helmet

Light up the night.

Unless your headlight is approaching the 12 o'clock mark, your helmet is your highest and most prominent point. The Shark SKWAL Helmet features integrated LED accents on the front and rear vents that shouts your presence to the world. A hidden switch under the clutch-side rim of the helmet allows you to toggle between continuous light, pulsing and off -sometimes you just need to disappear.

The SKWAL is developed for high speed stability, ventilation and acoustics. The aerodynamics are born from Shark's racing involvement and complex fluid dynamics simulations. An Autoseal shield system keeps the visor pressed firmly against the helmet to block out distractions like wind and the elements while a drop down internal sun shield keeps the sun at bay. A MaxVision Pinlock insert is a rider's best defense against shield fogging.

The interior of the helmet features a micro-stranded bamboo fiber that boasts natural moisture-wicking and anti-microbial properties. In addition to being ultra plush to the touch, the washable interior is also hypoallergenic.

The Shark SKWAL is a complete package that keeps you focused on the road ahead and keeps the outside world focused on you.

Features:

  • Pinlock MaxVision insert lens included
  • D-Ring chin strap closure
  • Quick release face shield system
  • Integrated drop down sun shield
  • Thermoplastic shell
  • Autoseal shield system for sound and weatherproofing
  • Comfortable bamboo fiber interior - bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking and antibacterial
  • Easy Fit glasses system provides optimal comfort for riders wearing glasses
  • LED illumination accents on front and rear of helmet
  • On/off push button switch hidden on underside of neck roll
  • Rechargeable lithium battery connects via USB port hidden in neck roll
  • Charging cable included
  • 5 hour LED run time in continuous mode, 10 hours in pulse mode
  • Chin curtain included
  • 2 shell sizes (XS-SM, MD-XL)
  • ECE 22.05 and DOT approved

Note: LED system may not arrive charged. Use the included USB cable to connect the helmet to a USB port on a computer or cell phone charger. The battery will reach a full charge in under 5 hours.

Great upgrade from an entry level helmet
I bought this helmet to replace my first helmet, and I was specifically looking for the following features:

Lightweight
Internal drop down shade.
Micrometric buckle
Pin lock ready (preferably included)
Reasonable price point
Cool looks
Bluetooth compatible

The Skwal has all of these features, plus these very cool built in lights for better visibility at night.

The helmet is super comfortable, no pressure points whatsoever. Pinlock is indispensable in the cold Canadian weather, however the internal drop sun visor is very prone to fog up. The buckle is super easy to use even with gloves on.pinlock comes included in the box, and works to perfection.

It's super light and it features great aerodynamics. I ride a nAked bike, and when I reach higher speeds , the helmets cuts the winds easily, with very little vibrations.

Only downside, ventilation is rather poor, and sun visor easy to fog up. Face shield is thick and it won't open up without a certain amount of effort, but it whistles a bit at high speeds. Vision field is ok, the nose guard is quite big, honestly the vision of my First helmet was better.

IMHO the Skwal is a great bang for the buck, in terms of comfort, features and awesome looks. Unfortunately it seems like Shark can't keep up with the production or shipments to Canada. I bought mine on a local website, and the waiting time for some of the models was 1-8 weeks! So I basically settled for the Trion graphics, which is really cool but doesn't match my bike Color.

I am still very happy with it and would buy again without a doubt.

Great Addition!
I bought the Shark Skwal because I light the idea of more visibility at night and I have never owed a Shark helmet so I thought I'd give them a shot. I ride in the morning and at night due the the blistering heat in the south during the summer. The LEDs are a great addition. They really get people's attention. This helmet is tight, but a great fit for me. I am an intermediate to long oval. For the price point, it has a lot of bang for the buck. Drop down sun visor (that actually covers your eyes), chin curtain, pin lock insert and LEDs are big benefits. The helmet is relatively quiet, but you do sacrifice airflow for that. Although, the air flow isn't bad. I could feel the air coming in onto my head. At full tuck you get a slight whistle with the top vent open, but none with it closed. With earplugs or buds in, you can't even hear it. The Instinct graphic is just plain sick so pick one up and see for yourself. You won't regret it.

Unique lighting!!!!
After 3 close calls in 4 days, in which it seems as though the drivers in 2 of the near hits didn't see me, I decided to get a bit more visible. I ordered the Icon hi-viz vest and the Skwal helmet here at Revzilla.
The helmet fit well except in the cheeks. Very tight on my cheeks. A call into RevZ suggested to take out the cheek padding and put some books on top of them for a few days. It turned out that worked well but it sure was a struggle putting the helmet back together. It was getting the battery/switch in place along with the padding which was a struggle. A few attempts and about 2 hours of my time got it all together again.
Pluses - pinlock, LIGHTS, quietness, ease of changing the face shield.
Minuses - lack of airflow thru top vent, tight cheek padding, re-installing the pads

Awesome helmet for the price
For the money, this helmet is awesome. This was a huge upgrade from my old starter hjc. The light up feature is cute i guess, but the flip down shade visor is awesome. It fits very snug which I appreciate for the track days. Hard to say if the air flows well since I'm in texas, it's just flippin hot regardless of air flow. Noise isn't too bad but again, with after market pipes on most bikes, the only thing that really reduces noise are ear plugs. I love this helmet and again, for the price I don't think you can beat it.

Great helmet, very happy with the Quality
We had been looking for new helmets for a while. We wanted helmets that were well reviewed, offered the flip down visor, and had the Pinlock system. After much checking, reading, looking around, we found the Shark Skwal. Nobody in our area had them in stock so we ordered two of them. We couldn't be happier. First off, the helmet looks awesome, I get a lot of comments. The Skwal has integrated LED lights in it which is a nice safety feature and looks cool. The flip down sun visor is way better than others that I've seen. Most visors flip down part ways thus cutting your vision in half, I would guess the Skwal's visor comes down 90% of the way nearly blocking out all incoming sun. I took the Skwal apart to install Bluetooth communication. It was very easy to take apart and put back together. Removing the sun visor for cleaning is also very easy. Airflow is good, I've not had any issues and the Pinlock ensures your not fogging up. You get a whole lot of helmet for your money and I would highly recommend it.

Solid Helmet That Looks Good
I took a spill yesterday and dumped the bike flipping over my handle bars. Landed head first and skidded across the pavement going about 20-25 mph. This thing took very minor damage and the only thing that popped out was a pinlock pin.

The helmet does have quite a whistle when moving at decent speeds.

My only true complaint is that the button for the LEDs is hella hard to press/find. It's definitely not glove friendly and due to the lack of quality- button feels like a gimmick more than a helpful feature.

Great helmet for wearing glasses!
I strongly recommend this helmet for anyone who wears glasses. Part of the padding was redesigned for easy fitment of eyeglasses, and it does the job so well you feel zero discomfort. The noise isn't bad at all, not silent by any means but manageable. The one downside I have been able to find is the front vent doesn't provide very much airflow and when not riding on the highway I always find myself cracking the visor open. Overall, I would buy this helmet again if given the chance.

Happy with graphics and helmet
Great fit, a lot of visibility, and slightly light.Four stars, nice LED integrated in the helmet but kind of hard to locate with gloves on and came with a fingerprint glue residue left on it out of the box with a fog shield that isn't for that model.

FIrst motorcycle helmet
I bought this helmet in December and have used it for 500 miles or so. So far I love it and the pros outweigh the cons. As I said, this is my first helmet so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Fit: This helmet is a little bit small. Following the measurements from Shark I should have bought a L, as I was at the top end of their numbers. I went ahead and got the XL and it fits perfect. There is space around the ears and I can ride with normal earphones in comfortably.

Internal Visor: The internal sun visor is great. In other helmets I looked at, the internal visor did not come down all the way and had a gap at the bottom. When I use the sun visor it comes down pretty far and almost touches my nose. Since I live in Texas and the sun can get pretty intense, it is still occasionally a little bright even with the visor.

Air Flow: The air flow is pretty much nonexistent. The way the chin vent is designed, the air just flows around it instead of in. On cold days I can feel the air through the top vent, but it doesn't help much when it is 90+ degrees outside. Whenever it is above 80 I typically just keep the visor partly open.

Lights: The lights are actually pretty bright. Friends have told me they are very easy to see at night. My only problem is having to charge it. The battery will die when not in use. Be sure to plan ahead and know if you will be riding at night.

Fogging: This helmet will fog up if it is even somewhat cold. It came with the Pinlock 70 visor, which was a hassle to put on. When I was installing it, it seemed as though it did not fit. The small "pins" on the visor did not line up with the pinlock and I eventually got it to fit sort of haphazardly. While the pinlock cuts the fogging on the external visor, the internal sun visor fogs easily.

Noise: The helmet cuts noise pretty well. I typically use the standard Samsung earphones, and the music is very easy to hear even while riding 1hr+ at 80 mph
Overall I really like the helmet.

Aside from Small Quirks, Very Satisfied
If you're considering this helmet, it is a no brainer. Style is awesome, I get a lot of compliments. The led lighting is cool, stands out but doesn't go over the top, more it accents the helmets lines and comes across as part of the styling in low light. Fit is good, didn't have any cheek issues as mentioned by other posts. Air flow seems a little limited, but it was 106 F today. My only gripe is the visibility, it seems a little too narrow. I wish I could see a little more in my side view, and top/bottom view makes it hard to view speedometer w/o moving my head. In all, it's truthfully slight, but with better view this could be the perfect helmet, com'on Shark, you're so close to perfect!!

Shark Skwal with integrated LED strips, vents and more. I couldn't pass this one up... in fact the review of the helmet combined with my own research is what got me to pull the trigger. Can't wait!

Will this helmet work well in the upright position? Does this helmet buffet in the wind while sitting up right? I'm looking for a helmet for a bike with no faring. The majority of my riding is done on the freeway.
Jose C on Jul 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I ride an FZ1 which has little to no fairing. I find the Skwal quiet and comfortable. I've had no buffeting issues but my riding position isn't completely upright.
Was curious, as a motovlogger does this helmet have room for me to attach my sena 20s with the battery already where I would usually line my speaker chords? Also how is this with quietness? I don't want a lot of wind noise while
Motovlogging.
Joel K on Sep 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There is plenty of room for attachments. Your gear should fit with no trouble. Wind noise with this helmet is minimal, especially with front visor completely closed. A very quiet helmet compared to others I own. Buy it. You'll love it!
what kind of usb port is the helmet carrying? mini?
Matthew V on Sep 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's a micro USB and the helmet comes with a charging chord that's about 8" long. You'll just need a standard USB to plug it into.
