Sena 10R Bluetooth Headset Videos

Sena 10R Low Profile Bluetooth Headset

Low profile, yet rich with high-performance features, the Sena 10R lets riders make hands-free phone calls, listen to music, get GPS directions, and have full-duplex intercom conversations with other riders in crystal-clear audio quality through the stereo Bluetooth headset. Ultra slim and featherlight, it’s a particularly good choice for riders who want to concentrate on their riding technique and minimize fuss factor.

Flexible, Effortless Connectivity

Talk or share playlists with four-way intercom functionality. Keep the chitchat going, share a playlist with up to four riding companions, or patch in a phone call that everyone can jump in on. The Bluetooth 4.1-equipped 10R does it all with crystal-clear sound quality and proprietary noise-reduction technology at ranges of up to 900 meters (0.5 miles).

Enhanced User Experience

Extra volume, less noise, and helpful voice prompts when you need them. Audio levels get a boost in noisy environments while Advanced Noise Control technology cuts down on background noise for both incoming and outgoing audio. Bluetooth music playback control features play, pause, track forward, and track back functions, and each audio source has its own adjustable volume level. Easy-to-follow voice prompts will get you started using your 10R. And if your pals don’t have Sena Bluetooth intercom gear, Sena’s Universal Intercom firmware makes the 10R compatible with all other Bluetooth communications systems on the market. Best of all, it’s upgradeable for the life of your headset, which makes pairing and interoperability across brands a non-issue for as long as you own the 10R.

Versatile Connectivity Makes for Versatile Capabilities

Stay connected and in control with the Sena Smartphone App. Linking up your 10R with the Sena Smartphone App (for Android or iPhone) allows you to configure device settings, set groups of intercom friends, and access an interactive quick start guide. The 10R also offers the ability to pair with up to two mobile phones for convenient hands-free calling.

Neat system
Preface - never owned a motorcycle helmet bluetooth system, instead, I've typically just worn some bluetooth headphones.

Overall, I love the thing. It connects to my phone automatically when I turn it on, it handles all audio from my phone well (including actual phone calls, driving directions from both Google Maps or Waze, and music), and the battery lasts quite a while. My commute is about 45 minutes one way, and I managed to get 9 days out of the headset before it started complaining to me about battery levels. The remote has not needed to be charged after 14 days of use, and still says it's at 50% battery. Sweet.

In general, the device is very stable and reliable - I've never had a disconnect and it even seems to remain connected when I walk into a gas station to pay and leave my phone on the bike. Pretty good bluetooth range, especially compared to any bluetooth speakers or headphones I've ever owned.

The things that bug me:
1. The remote gets in the way of your turn signal and horn buttons. It takes some time to get used to having to reach over the remote to hit your turn signals, but it became normal for me after a few days.
2. The remote doesn't seem capable of pausing/playing music when another app is the focus on my phone. For example, if I'm using Waze to track my riding or give directions, the pause/play music functionality doesn't work. Minimize Waze and the play/pause functionality starts working but only after a couple button presses. Seems inconsistent.
3. Cycling through presets in the FM tuner is a hassle since you can only move forward. The more presets you have, the harder it is to get to the one you want.
4. The device itself has no way to disconnect from all the cables in one go - you have to disconnect it from all four connections (mic, two speakers, battery) to pull it off the side of your helmet. Essentially, this means I've never disconnected it - I don't want to fiddle with all four cables again.

Other than these minor inconveniences, I love the device - I lost my bluetooth headphones a month or two back and have missed riding with music. However, I find this is even better than using bluetooth headphones - I can still wear earplugs to protect myself from wind noise.

I have not used the communication aspects of the device yet as I haven't had a chance to ride with anyone else who owns a Sena headset since purchasing mine, but I plan on buying one of their cheaper devices for my girlfriend for when we ride 2-up. I will update my review at that point.

Arai XD-4 Stealth Install
I didn’t like the idea of a battery stuck on the back of the helmet so I “modified” mine a bit and installed the battery in the removable cheek pad of the Arai XD-4, I have the 15mm inserts so there was plenty room for the battery. Prior to the 10R I had the SMH10 and had to run at full volume to hear my buddy, with the 10R I am no where near full volume and he is also easier to hear due to fuller range of sound with much better bass, the handle bar remote is great for winter riding with thick winter gloves, I don’t have to fiddle on the side of the helmet to try to change volume or whatever. I found the range on this to be the same as the SMH10 which to me is more than adequate, unless we were separated by a mountain or a hill I could get at least a kilometre (we were never separated more than that) with the audio still being crystal clear.
The app is great for setting up the 10R but once you have done that it is pretty much useless, I would at least like to be able to add and remove riding buddies like you can with the 20S, but you can’t.

Sena 10r installed in Shoei RF1200
Very happy with this system! I used to use an older version of the Sena 20, and this one is just as good if not better:

The speakers are just loud enough to listen to music at full speeds with earplugs in, and are perfect for listening while cruising around town. I have not tried the intercom yet but I have used the Bluetooth phone pairing - someone said it sounded like I was in a car when I was talking to them.

The external battery looks fine on my flat black Shoei RF1200 and all wires are concealed well enough. My only complaint is that the speakers were a little bit larger than the ear indents in my helmet; not Sena's fault but it did make for a tricky install. The speakers don't sit flat on the shell, touching my ear at one spot, but that has not bothered me on rides over 5 hours long.

Plenty of different options included for mounting the speakers and microphone inside the helmet so I was able to make everything work after a few tries.

Used for Waze app and iPod
First off the low profile is great on this unit. I have it hooked up to a Bell custom 500 open faced helmet. I primarily use it for my waze app on a iPhone 6. I get directions and alerts when the oinksters are setting up speed traps. Secondary is my iPod music. I love how you can have both your iPhone running Waze , and a iPod connected at the same time. Speakers are loud enough even with my exhaust rumbling in the background. On surface streets I do not turn them up all the way. Reason being I want to hear whats going on around me. Screeching tires ect. just for safety. When Im on Open Highway I crank it up. The price point is a lil much but its capability is where it shines. I recently rode 700 miles on the open highway and this set up help me go Zen with my music.

LISTEN UP!!!!!
The system works great, but your results will vary depending a number of factors such as helmet choice, type of motorcycle, and exhaust modifications. I first fitted the 10R to my Scorpion EXO-R2000 and it was a terrible set up. The race snug fit of the helmet made it feel like I was ripping off my ears every time I put on or removed the helmet. I could not align the speakers to my ears and the sound was horrible. I removed the 10R from the Scorpion and installed it on my HJC RPHA-10 Lorenzo replica helmet and man what a difference. The speakers line up perfectly with my ears and they sound great. When I put the helmet on and turn on the music the sound comes out rich with very little volume. Then I start my bike up and the thunderous rumbling of my Yoshi dual exhaust kills all the bass coming out of the speakers. I turn up the volume to compensate and take off but then the helmet wind noise mixed in with the tones of my awesome exhaust pipes kills the sound quality again. One more adjustment to the volume and then I'm left with an acceptable combination of wind noise, music and killer exhaust roar. The system does work great and is not at fault for my mixed results it all comes down to so many varying factors that influence the final result. Again helmet choice, type of motorcycle, exhaust mods and other factors will affect the sound quality you experience.

Good Headset, terrible remote
The hing on the remote broke about 2 weeks into owning it, its much less user friendly without it. For $70 the remote's hing should not break straight away. The headset itself is quite nice. I just got back from a 5000 mile trip over 17 days and during that time I rode with the headset in the rain on many occasions and it never caused a problem. I have also ridden for several 8-10 hour days and the batter has held up all day. I have the headset paired to my iPhone and it works great. I can work the controls with a gloved hand and can use my voice to answer the phone.

My biggest complaint is one that isn't Sena's fault, but I would have liked it to be advertised more clearly. That complaint is that the remote can not be used to receive audio from my Harley-Davidson. I wanted to pair the Headset to my 2015 Ultra Limited so the voice commands on my H-D GPS would play through the headset. This is not possible due to limitations of the Harley-Davidson system.

So-So
While I like the Sena 10R, I am not in love with it. The install wasn't too bad, except with the Shoei Hornet x2 there was a ton of extra wire that had to be hidden. Everything fit in the helmet OK, but the speakers don't seem to fit the pre-cut holes in the helmet as well as I would like. The foam covers they send with the unit -for the speakers- are extremely cheap and will not last. Not a fan of all the different connectors, Sena needs to develop a simpler wiring harness.

Sound is ok, I have to practically max out the volume to hear anything at highway speed but when at idle it is clear. One speaker seems to be louder than the other not sure what the cause is. Not enough to make me return the whole unit but enough to annoy me. With the X2 the boom mic was too large and I had to go with the wired mic, when talking on the phone at speed there is a lot of wind noise according to callers, could be placement within the helmet will have to adjust and see.

In all, for the expense, I was really hoping for something more.

Audio is clear
The sound clarity during comm is very clear. Sure helmet noise creeps in at speed, but I could hear very clear conversation.
Allowing normal conversation, talk over each other, etc. is great. The mic picks up everything.

My son linked to his cell phone and took calls while riding, all clear. Streams music, plenty loud through ear plugs too.
FM radio works well considering no tall antenna.
Clear, crisp audio in a small, clean package.
GREAT!

Awesome Headset
My brother purchased this headset and loves it so I bought one as well. It is awesome. The speakers sound great, the connecting to my android phone was very simple, and the box contained everything you need to get it installed. Combine this product with RevZillas quick shipping and you have a great combination.

Awesome speaker system.
I purchased this to replace my Sena SMH10R Bluetooth Headset.
I really like the upgrades in the Speakers, They are now separated into 2 different cable connections instead of one like the old one. This makes it easier to install and cable manage.
The sounds quality is better, the IOS app works as expected and I like that i can now see the battery life in my iPhone screen right next to the bluetooth icon.
I installed it in my Scorpion EXO-R710 Helmet - Solid. The speaker cut out were a bit small so i had to make an adjustment in the helmet. But overall I really like the product.

Just a quick FYI: Connection in this speaker are different than the SMH10R therefore none of your old speakers or extra battery with work in the 10R.
