Scorpion Yukon Jacket

Crossing rivers, knee deep mud, eleven days of solid rain. The Scorpion Black Emperor Yukon Jacket is designed for adventure riding or long distance touring in cold, wet climates. A waterproof / breathable membrane that has been laminated to the exterior fabric has been carefully and fully seam sealed to make this garment waterproof on the outside. No waterproof liner is needed.

The exterior of the jacket is a combination of 500 denier nylon for the main body material, and heavy duty 1680 denier nylon on the forearms, elbows and shoulders. But when the weather turns nice, multiple huge vents on the forearms, biceps, side or torso, upper back, and kidneys can be opened up to make this a very ventilated flow though jacket for warmer temperatures.

Four external seam sealed waterproof pockets on lower torso, two large “camera holster” pockets with load bearing anchor points for lanyards or retractors for keys or cameras, two forearm pockets, and one huge rear cargo storage pocket means you can keep your valuables or clothing layers with you when exploring. Four internal mesh pockets, as well as a hidden passport / money pocket keep valuables safe and hidden.

The collar is trimmed with Nappa calf leather, and the cuffs are trimmed with neoprene. A tall, removable, storm collar with neoprene trim is included for when the weather gets really nasty. Large amounts of NightViz reflective on shoulders, upper torso, neck, side of torso and lower back make it easier to be seen at night. Waist belt, dual arm adjustment straps and bottom hem elastic help the jacket fit and seal out the elements.

Sas-Tec CE certified viscoelastic armor is used at elbows and shoulders. Elbow armor is infinitely adjustable with our new VELCRO® brand closures hook molded directly into the pads so they can be positioned exactly where you want them. Sas-Tec level 2 CE certified back protector as well as a Sas-Tec CE certified CP-1 chest protectors are also included for maximum impact protection. A fully functional, vertically adjustable, and removable kidney belt is included to offer support and additional lower body protection for those long days in the saddle.

Features:

  • 500D 100% polyamide woven fabric EXO-DRY main material with a 3 layer laminate with 10,000mm waterproofness and 5,000 g/cm2 breathability

  • All critical seams Exo-Stich Safety Seams with heavy bar tacking at high stress areas

Tough Enough
Couldn't swing the high-pricepoint ADV gear twice, so on my second suit purchase I decided to go rogue and try the Scorpion Yukon set (knowing that RevZilla would take care of me if I didn't like it).

The suit does not disappoint. It doesn't suck either. In fact, it's awesome.

First, I feel like I'm bullet proof in this thing. There's armor everywhere, but somehow I still look sexy. That's probably because it's cut way slimmer than my (high priced competitor's name here), which fit me like a box (and because I tend to think I look sexy -- especially so when outfitted to traverse the gnarliest terrain this earth has to offer). The only downfall to the slimmer cut is my massive biceps are a little squished, but let's face it, I run hot, so most of the time I've got all the vents open anyway...and it's a perfect fit with the loose zippers.

Hit some rain a few weeks ago. Didn't get wet. Which is a solid testimony, because when I say "rain" I mean torrential downpour, and when I say "hit" I mean twist the throttle and hit that sucker like like a punching bag. I used to get water down the back of my neck all the time in my "gore" jacket...but waterproofing doesn't do a thing if the neck doesn't seal up right with your helmet. And once it's in, it's everywhere you don't want it to be. The Scorpion kept me dry, which surpassed expectations.

Downfalls? Of course there's downfalls. For one, it's got short legs, but upon calling Scorpion I have learned that I can let the seam out to make the pant longer (but I really don't care, I wear big-boy Sidi Crossfire's, not loafers on my way to Starbucks). Next, as mentioned it's not the same fit as I was used to, which was baggier than my eyelids in Vegas on a Sunday morning; however, as a result the armor stays in place MUCH better on this Yukon set -- which I dig, because I crash like I live: hard (probably good to note that I had to go up a size though to make the jacket fit right, pants were the same size as usual...big shoulders on this one, just like my ego). Finally, I don't like the lining inside the pockets...why? I don't know why, it just bugs me.

So there it is, a review. This is a really good suit for the price, figured I'd tell someone about it other than my wife. Happy ADV'ing.

Good Jacket, but NOT waterproof
I have been using this for commutes in the mid 70/80's stuck in traffic for the end of summer. Today was the first good rain, and I commuted at >45MPH stop and go for about 40 min. When i got to work my arms were soaked, and water was running down them into my gloves.

After having the commander Jacket for over 6 years I am sorely disappointed with he performance of this jacket, and will probably have to go back to my commander jacket (with very little armor) to commute in Seattle in the dark all winter.

I wish I would have saved my money or could return this to revzilla or scorpion after discovering it is falsely advertised as waterproof.

Awesome coat, but could be better.
Purchased this as my first real $200+ motorcycle coat. Needed something in the adventure style, waterproof, with lots of protection.
Pros:
-Armor, armor, and more armor
-Venthilation for days
-Overall quality is top notch
Cons:
-Fitment is goofy. I'm 6'1, and 130 lbs so I went with a small -out of fear of medium being too big around the body. The sleeve length is a little long, and the fit in the shoulders is pretty tight. But the barrel is spot on.
-"Waterproof" I bought this to handle the winter riding in the pacific northwest. It's a robust coat, and while the vents on the coat let in a little water, overall it did not impress. After a 30 min ride to work in moderate to light rainfall, I was soaked from my shoulders to my stomach.

Overall I would highly recommend this coat, purely based on the armor and robustness of the coat. Fitment is a little off, and "waterproof" is hardly applicable. But I will be wearing this thing till it falls apart!

Chose it over a Klim Badlands
After an accident I was in need of a new jacket. The previous one - a Scorpion Yosemite - was terrific and one of the best values on Revzilla. My insurance money meant I could purchase just about anything I wanted, but although the Yosemite was my original choice I wanted something with a bit more protection. So I ended up ordering the Yukon (in XL and 2XL). At the same time, I noted that Revzilla was closing out the Klim Badlands for a mere hundred dollars more than the Yukon. I ordered it, hoping that I would return the Yukons and instead opt for the highly acclaimed Badlands. But it was not to be. The Yukon just feels safer - it has better protection, better fit, better style... and even with the discount, a better value.

But the Yukon is nowhere near the perfect jacket.

Compared to the Yosemite I feel like I'm cast in a concrete cocoon. My movement is severely limited to the point I have to buckle up my Arai XD4 before I put on the jacket. All movements are stiff in comparison to the Yosemite. The issue did not go away with the 2XL - in fact there was almost no difference between the two in terms of fit. Despite the limited mobility I chose to stick with the Yukon in XL for its superior protection qualities. One reason I returned the Badlands was that the shoulder protection design was not right for me - the foam pad didn't even start until it was 6-inches from my neck. In my accident I landed hard on my shoulder and the Yosemite SAS pad took the brunt of the impact. If I had been wearing the Badlands I'm sure I would have cracked a bone. The Yukon has even better protection in the shoulders and elbows, and the pad location is adjustable. The Yukon also includes a waist cinch where the Badlands does not – I look much slimmer than I really am. I had previously purchased a Forcefield Pro Lite K back protector for the previous Yosemite so I was easily able to swap it for the SAS-TEC piece. This makes the jacket even tighter, or course, but I think the extra level of protection is worth it.

How can Scorpion make this jacket better? It badly needs stretch panels in the back and shoulder and elbow areas – any one place would work better. The 500D polyamide fabric does not budge an inch, or seemingly a millimeter. Also, the wrist closures should mimic those on the Yosemite with both Velcro straps and YKK fold lock zippers for easy on and off. The Yukon offers only Velcro straps.

To be fair, in the Revzilla review of the Badlands, Anthony makes it very clear that the Badlands is a true go-around-the-world adventure jacket – but not the best choice for surviving a hit on the road with another vehicle. I think that’s a very accurate analysis. I’m glad I chose the Yukon – I will adjust to it. I feel safe in it. And with two improvements it could be pretty close to perfect.

Great Jacket
very well made jacket. This jacket was stiff at first, but after wearing it, it has become more comfortable. the armor is a bit bulky and stiff, but I feel well protected in this jacket. the jacket fits tight in the arms. I'm 5'9" 157lbs skinny, and small to medium build and the arms of this jacket are tight with the adjusters at their full adjustment. Great jacket overall, I would definitely buy it again.

Jacket is awesome. Tight fit. Order a size up. Kept me dry in light rain. Feel protected in this jacket. Armor is stiff, when cold, but get's more pliable after body warms it up.

Great do it all adventure jacket at a great price! Highly recommended
Very happy thus far with the jacket in terms of quality, style, features, etc.

I'm 6'1" 185lbs, athletic build and size large fit perfectly, room to layer underneath when cool, or cinch the adjusters and open vents with just a t-shirt when warm.

The amor feels substantial and well placed, although it is quite stiff when I initially put the jacket on. However, after a couple of minutes it conforms to my body/warms up, and is very comfortable.

Haven't tested the waterproofing yet, the reason I bought the jacket was to do away with carrying separate rain suits, but have not had it rain yet while wearing. Based on others reviews and the zippers and seams, I am confident it will perform as advertised.

Storm collar and kidney belt are great extras.

Great Touring Gear
I recently bought the Scorpion Yukon Jacket and Pants, so these are my initial impressions.

I ride an RSV4 and Multistrada 1200, so I was looking for rain proof gear that would look good with either bike. I also wanted to be able to add in mid layers for warmth, and open the zippers for direct ventilation.

The jacket fits me well, I'm 5'10", 160lbs, with an athletic build. It took a while to get the elbow armor in place, but it feels pretty comfy once I did (not as comfortable as my leather jackets, but does seem more bombproof).

The styling is cool, I feel like it could with everything from a dirt bike to a super sport. It has a ton of pockets, including the kangaroo pouch on the back which is super helpful. Ventilation seems good too, but so far I've only ridden in cold weather. Seems weather proof as well, but haven't ridden in rain just yet.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a laminated shell without having to use a waterproof liner.
