REV'IT Sand Urban Jacket

REV’IT! took the celebrated Sand concept and tweaked the dials on the fashion vs. function spectrum - carefully trading just a touch of the latter for increased comfort and improved fit to better reconcile with its newfound crossover purpose - all without straying too far from the magic recipe.

Touting the same massive ventilation concept rolled out in the Sand 3 update, the REV’IT! Sand Urban Jacket keeps the VCS zippers but goes without the utilitarian D-ring accessory straps in favor of a cleaner breast panel and overall less-busy aesthetic.

Also maintained from the Sand 3 is the weather-versatile drop liner system with separate thermal and waterproof liners. With the liners removed, the poly-cotton shell itself is very lightweight, enhancing the excellent summer performance afforded by the large vent panels.

In the interest of keeping a lightweight feel and a trim fit, the armor is extremely low-profile, flexible CE Level 1 SeeSmart rather than the thicker, more protective CE Level 2 SeeFlex used in the Sand 3. The Sand Urban is, however, prepared to accept the same CE Level 2 SeeSoft back protector.

The Sand Urban has a tailored European fit, adjustable at several points on either sleeve as well as in the waist. The simple, muted design is highlighted only by the Oxford reinforcement panels at the elbows and shoulders and small REV’IT! logos on either sleeve and the base of the neck. Because the Sand Urban does not include additional reflective bars on the chest and back, REV’IT! instead made all 3 logos themselves reflective so as not to stand out during daylight hours.

Incorporating nearly all the features of the Sand 3 in a more streamlined, styled package, the REV’IT! Sand Urban Jacket achieves a look that appears casually purposeful, unrevealing of the motocentric design within. After all, riding a motorcycle is pretty cool - who says you can’t look good while you do it?

It costs how much?!
Ok, this is a VERY expensive piece of fashion that is functional. BEFORE YOU BUY THIS JACKET BE AWARE YOU CANNOT MACHINE WASH THIS JACKET AND HAVE TO BUY ADDITIONAL REV'IT AFTERCARE PRODUCTS TO UP KEEP IT WATER REPLENCY. With that said, it does look nice and you will get compliments. The ability to remove layers to suit the climate is a good feature of this particular jacket. I don't recommend buying this jacket if you have to commute through rural areas because it seems that getting bug guts off this jacket is a bit tedious.

Bottom line: It's expensive but functional.

Love it!
One of the best jackets I've ever owned. I was in-between the Aether and this. Aether didn't have red in my size so I decided to go with Revit and I'm glad I did. I can't imagine a waterproof jacket being cool enough in 80 degree weather. I know there are plenty of people who would but not me.. Also, from my experience Gortex tends to wear off after a couple of years of heavy use. You won't have that problem with the waterproof liner, which you can take off whenever you want. Some guy here said you can't machine wash it, I wash mine once every two weeks in a machine (except the liners) and I haven't had issues so far. I bought sand 3 pants to go with it but if you're in the marker for a set go with something else. They're baggy and don't complement the jacket very well.

Would be perfect, if it came with the back protector
I'll first say, this is my favorite jacket I've ever purchased. Not because I spent over 500 dollars for it (worth every penny) but because of the function and all roundness of it.

I've ridden with it in 40 degrees all the way up to 80 so far. No cold air got in at 40, all the wind blew through in 80. The liners really do their jobs, and the vents work perfectly. Zippers are lined, heavy duty, and work perfectly with gloves on. I ride a 2016 Indian Scout, and it completely matches the style I'm going for. Maybe not what it was intended for, but It looks right at home on a cruiser as well as a Enduro.

I am 5'10'', 185. I purchased a large. Perfect fit and plenty of room for the back protector I had to purchase separately (my only gripe). With the thermal liner in, was a tad tight at first. But I realized that's how it was intended to keep a person warm. With just the wind liner and outer layer on, made me super comfortable on the bike.

Highly recommended on my end. Rev'it is top notch and I've gotten alot of compliments on it. Perfect 4 season if you're going for this style

Excellent so far...
Started riding beginning of summer. I got this jacket because it looked dope, has removable layers, and decent protection based on the riding I do.

I'm 6'1 on a good day 210lbs and the large fits like any other large jacket. Only draw back is how snug it is with all layers. No biggie for me, might be for you. Everything us well crafted, and after a few months of dank wheelie school, a couple make out sessions with the mud out on the trails, and a solid 40mph yard sale on the twisties, IMHO the jacket has already payed for itself. It super tough, the padding and material protected me from the wooded shoulder wall, rocks, dirt, and the asphalt while also being relatively unscathed itself. As a comparison, I'm still picking scabs off a couple spots on my legs where my jeans failed hiting the same business I mentioned above.

Overall, totally effing worth it. I absolutely trust it will protect my body from all bUT the most extreme wipes.

Two important notes: it does not come with a back plate, I purchased one seperatly. And the zipper is on the wrong side. (European product :D) No biggie for me, might be for you.

Ride hard, brothers and sisters!

Promising start but never right
I purchased this coat in September and am already submitting a warranty claim after three uses.

I initially bought this to be my winter commuter and touring jacket. When I pulled it out of the box, it seemed like a high quality item. However after a little over a month and three to four day long rides, its apparent that Rev'it has a QA problem.

First, both chest zips refuse to open. I regretfully wore it on a hot summer day and couldn't get the venting that I needed. I nearly passed out from the heat. I really tried opening them up, but feared breaking the zipper pulls or tearing the problem.

Second and most recently, both arm zips broke off completely leaving me unable to shut the arms on a cold commute to work. Now I could've tried reconnecting them, but after the chest zips issues, I just decided to call it quits.

I submitted the warranty claim the next day. This will be my last Rev'it purchase unfortunately. I have a couple pairs of pants and gloves from them. All of which have small issues. Popped seams, loose threads, fragile zippers and buttons. While all their garments look particularly good in my opinion, I really think they need to have a more stringent quality control policy. I'm sure cost cutting measures are part of it, but if I am spending $550+ on a jacket, I don't want there being issues.

Positives? Well this jacket is a stunner. Compliments and thumbs up at lights. Great venting (when it works). A true 4 season jacket for sure.

A little snug with all the liners in but I didn't need all of them at once. It was either one or the other.

All in all a good coat with decent protection and heaps of style, but quality was lacking.

Well worth the money.
Bought this just last week, and immediately tested it on a sunny 45F degree morning. With both liners in and a pair of gauntlet gloves, I was quite comfortable. Add in a pair of proper riding pants and at least an Underarmor shirt, and I'd have been 100% warm.

I am 5'10" and 195lbs, and the size large fits me nicely, if just slightly snug with both liners in. Which I kind of prefer. I hate jackets with lots of slack. The cinch straps make it easy to resize. Good pockets. Good materials. Nice attention to detail. My favorite is probably the hook and loop that keeps the throat flap out of the way when off the bike. Love that. The liners are secured solidly and don't slide around when putting on/removing the jacket.

My only nitpicks:

-I wish the collars were a bit smaller in diameter, or at least had one more snap for us pencil-neck types. On cold days, I absolutely need a neck gaiter to keep the cold air from blowing down my neck and back.
-I too wish it came with at least Level 1 back armor, or if not that, Level 2 armor for the shoulders and elbows rather than L1.

Overall, I give it a 9/10, and would recommend. This will absolutely extend my riding season.

Tested in the Southwest
5'10'', athletic, 170lbs, and went with Medium

This jacket has been tested in the 90+ degree, dry Southwest USA heat and passed with all the vents open. Keep in mind, open arm vents will expose your arms to sunburns. So, I wear a long sleeve UV protective Under Armour shirt below and still stay cool.
With the vents closed, I have stayed comfortable in 65 degree weather and have not tested the liners below this temp. Sorry readers, I just jump at the chance to wear my leather jacket instead.

Fit: This jacket needs to be fitted using all the fitment straps. It's boxy when you get it in the box, because it has to accomodate all the liners, but once I finished altering it with the straps, it looks pretty stylish.

The only jacket I can compare this to is an Icon mesh jacket a friend lent to me for summer riding and this jacket clearly blows that out of the water. The jacket is soft and just so comfortable. I've been very happy with this jacket.

Wishlist: I wish this had CE level 2 elbow and shoulder armor. Although I'm happy with the green color, the blue color on the regular version of this jacket is clearly the more stylish. I want the blue color on this jacket.

Form over Function or Not?
I live in the Desert Southwest and ride a variety of bikes. Scrambler, DRZ, Tiger800 and want a jacket that I can HOPEFULLY use year round and that works with a wide variety of bikes and helmets.

Styling wise its dead on and while nothing will keep a person cool in triple digits, the GIANT vents on the Urban Sand allow for nearly as much airflow as a mesh.

The armor is so thin and lightweight that I am a bit skeptical of it truly doing its job in the event I need it too (hope I dont ever have to find out). That said, I do like the fact that it is thin and lightweight from a fit and styling point. Again, hopefully it will do the job intended if it is called upon.

Not sure why one review said it is "brown:??? mine is VERY green. Army Green would be dead on. Is their a variance in color???

Costs more than it should, but there isnt currently anything on the market that offers as much form AND function.

Excellent performance over a wide temperature range
I bought this jacket in November and it allowed me to ride into early December in upstate NY! It performs excellently down to 40 degrees. In the 30's you notice chill through the zippers. The 20s I could handle in my 25 minute commute, but was cold (expect to layer up and wear neck protection below the zipper). Not freezing, however. Upper temperature range, with the layers zipped out, this jacket is good into the high 70's. Ventilation is good, but not great. I rely on my mesh riding outfit for 80 degrees and above. I don't bother undoing the wrist zipper (no good airflow), but I do unzip the bicep down to the middle which helps. Overall, this is a great looking jacket that provides protection and comfort across an excellent temperature range!
