This jacket is awesome - VERY happy with purchase
Where to begin... I absolutely love this jacket. The styling is unbeatable. Looks and feels great. It almost passes as a regular street jacket.

The armor is less bulky than my other motorcycle jackets... barely visible on the shoulders, and completely invisible on the elbows. Yet, it feels sturdy and safe; the cut of the jacket just conceals it well. It's as safe as any other jackets I've worn.

As for the fabric, this jacket is VERY heavy. It's a thick, warm, high quality piece. In terms of weight, it wears more like a thick leather jacket than a lighter textile or mesh jacket. With or without the liner, I wouldn't dare wear this in the summer. It'll be my go-to fall/early spring jacket, fold colder weather, which is what I bought it for.

The only negative... and I'm really nitpicking here: the bottom of the jacket (torso) rides quite high, which is visible in the Revzilla video review on the demo-guy. When I stand normally, my belt buckle is fully visible. It might bug some people. Also, from my semi-crouched stance, I'm not sure how much of my lower back will be exposed.

IMPORTANT RE SIZING: I was nervous about sizing, since I live in Canada, and returns aren't free... it would cost me double-import-taxes and triple-shipping costs, so I prayed to get it right on the first try.

I did.

I got a small. It fits absolutely perfectly: shoulders, sleeve length, fit, etc. Normally, I wear a M or a L. As a comparison, my Alpinestars jacket is a Large and it fits me snuggly.

I'm 5'11", 183 lbs, 40 inch chest. The sizing chart was recommending Medium for me, but in their video, Revzilla recommended to get one size below. Another youtube online demo made a similar suggestion. Finally, I checked Merlin's website itself, which also specified that they make their sizes "big/loose".

So Revzilla's advice was spot-on, which I appreciate tremendously. Thus, I also recommend that you pick one size smaller than the sizing chart indicates. As weird as it feels for me to wear a small...

Love this thing!
First, Amanda in customer service is awesome and so are the folks at the RevZ store.
I was looking for a wax jacket (I just like the look) and everything out there was in the $600+ range. So I settle for a non-wax jacket and then a few days later I get the RevZilla email that this piece of awesomeness just arrived!
Amanda helped me get this switched out and even confirmed the correct back protector for the jacket (running around to the warehouse to confirm fitment).
This jacket looks and feels great. You wont look out of place walking around in it. The liner is warm and took it out last weekend when the weather was just under 60 degrees. The vents work well but I wouldn't wear this in warmer weather.
Collar is comfortable, not scratchy.

Very happy with this purchase.

I own an Alpinestars summer mesh jacket, but was in the market for a good cooler weather jacket but that I can also wear on the street without shouting "hey look I, ride a motorcycle". First RevZilla is always quick and shipping out items and great chat support.

I am 5' 5" , 140lbs and chest 36. So finding a jacket that fits my slim small body is hard to find. (most jackets ride up my neck or bunch up in the gut area)

I ordered the black Small, and seeing it was from Europe, I figured it would be slim in the gut area. I figured correctly. Fits me almost spot on. With the shoulder pads it is a little boxy, but if you remove it after riding it looks like a regular coat. I ride a cafe racer so leaning with this jacket isn't too tight (then again I'm not a big guy so I suppose that helps)

As others have said, it's a heavy jacket, good for two reasons. One it for sure will be good on cold days (no air leaks through) and second (God forbid I go down), it will hold up very well if I were to slide on pavement. A very manly and rugged jacket for sure. I was caught in a down pour while wearing it, my shirt was damped; I'd say it's more water resistant than water proof. The best part of the jacket is the price. For $300 you get all the protection you need and a very well made jacket. I am very happy with it and I cannot think of any cons aside I have to wait a few months to wear it as I wouldn't dare wear it over a 70 degree day.

Great jacket
So far so good with the Merlin Sandon. I was finally able to test it out when it got unseasonably warm here for February. Road twice, once towards sunset with just a t-shirt under it while it was in the upper 50s. I was fine at first but got a little cold after the sun dropped. Next day was up in the 60s and I had a sweater underneath it and was perfectly comfortable. It has lots of pockets for storage and fits very well and looks great, even with all the armor and the liner in. I'm 5'8" 155 and got a small. I think it would be fine to ride with temperatures in the 40s with layers under and easily into the 80s with the liner out. Really happy with it so far!

This might be the greatest jacket in the history of time.
First things first. I live in Seattle, so I had to get something that was both warm and waterproof so I could ride in the winter. After doing a bunch of internetting I landed on the Merlin Sandon Wax jacket. $300 is no easy pill to swallow, but this jacket was the spoon full of sugar that helped. I'll break my review into a few segments explaining why i love this jacket so much.

Waterproofing - You bet you butt it is. First day I wore this jacket we had a pretty gnarly rain storm in Seattle. Did I get wet? Well yes, my legs go soaked, but my torso and appendages were as dry as the desert.

Warmth - It might be too warm. I've worn it in everything from mid 40s to low 60s and it's legit warm when it's 62 degrees out. Not a bad problem.

Fit - Go one size smaller. I'm 5'11" and 165ish lbs and I ordered a small. It fits perfectly. Sleeve length, elbow armor, shoulder armor are all in the right spots. I can still wear a light sweater underneath if I chose to, however, it's quite warm so I haven't needed to do that yet. It's a little on the short side, not much longer than a t-shirt, but that's the style of jacket, so I'm happy with it.

Protection - I haven't gone down in this jacket yet, but all the armor feels nice and protective, and the waxed canvas feels tough af so I'm quite certain it would keep me safe in a slide.

Style - you almost can't tell it's a motorcycle jacket. It's quite stylish.

Pockets - there's a bunch of them. Only two on the outside, but several hidden ones for phones, sandwiches and other fun things.

Zipper - at first I thought I got a women's jacket because the zipper was on the left side. Then I realized it was a European jacket and all my problems were solved.

Not sure what else to say, but this jacket is super rad and everyone should own one. Spend the extra bucks. It's worth it.

Great Investment
I was hesitant on buying this jacket because I have never invested that much money into clothing. I can say that I will never regret this purchase. On sizing, I am 5'11 and 225 lbs with a muscular build and I purchased the XL. The fit was almost perfect. With the armor in the jacket was a little tight through the shoulders. I removed the armor and now it fits perfect. I can honestly say that I will probably purchase the Armitage jacket next. Great product.

Top quality and stile. Not so oversize as they say.
I usually use L and as I read it about this brand I ordered a M. It is ok but too tide for me. And too short at the back.... thinking about it is a winter jacket...a lot of cold air is freezing my back... anyway.. the jacket is really cool. And keep my chest warm... only my chest.

Great for fall, winter, and early spring in Florida.
The Merlin Samson looks great. It has been my commuter jacket for a month. Temperature got in the mid 70s F a few days ago and I was pretty warm with the vents open and no liner installed. I was able to ride comfortably in 35 degree weather. Highly recommended.

Incredibly stylish & functional, a great new brand
Not gonna lie, I've been wanting a Barbour International as a casual jacket for a while now. But it's hard to justify a $400 jacket for just wearing around.

Still, I love the style. I heard about these Merlin jackets via BikeExif.com I think. They looked intriguing, but I expected them to be priced way above my means. $300 isn't cheap. But for a UK brand made with authentic heavyweight waxed cotton, I was expecting it to be a lot more.

I bit the bullet & went for it since my Rev'It Melville was definitely on its way out (after about 3-4 years, whatever weatherproofing it had was mostly gone).

First off, the quality of this thing is great. It's a pretty heavy wax cotton canvas. I wouldn't expect it to hold up like leather in a get off, but it sure feels as tough or tougher than a ballistic nylon jacket. The styling is really nice. The only thing that would keep me from wearing this as my go to daily jacket is the armor.

That said, hopefully I'll never have to test the armor, but it meets Euro standards, but is really not bulky at all. The back protector is comes with ain't much, but the pocket will fit a quality one if you want to fit one.

I wanted to get a few miles on it in different conditions before reviewing it. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, it rarely gets that cold, but it does rain.

Recently, I've worn it in some pretty damn heavy rains. Up top, I stayed quite dry. It's a wax cotton jacket, so the outer shell will bead water for a while, but some will soak into the cotton. The outside will get damp & heavy. But I stayed toasty & dry on the inside. The interior liner kept all the wet outside. Even my non breathable rain pants didn't do that.

Just today, it was warm enough to ride without full sleeve warmth liner. I kinda prefer the jacket's natural drape without the liner. With the weather sunny in the low 60s, I had a short sleeve shirt on underneath & stayed comfortable. Above the mid 70s, I imagine this thing will probably get pretty warm.

There are 2 vent zippers on the chest. But as they only open up the outer shell a little bit, I don't imagine they'll provide much cooling.

I wouldn't mind some kind of hold back for the velcro throat closure. But I ride 90% of the time without using it & it does not flap against my throat or anything annoying like that.

The pockets are not super easy to reach when you're gloved up. But they are convenient for holding whatever you need otherwise. The pocket on the left wrist would be great for toll money or registration papers, but you might want to keep any paper in a Zip-Loc if you think it's gonna rain.

I often default to black gear 'cuz it's classic. But this jacket comes in a nice mossy/olive green. Which is ont of my favorite colors. So points there. RevZilla lists it as brown, but it's very much closer to green.

I have a pretty slim build, so I was a little bit afraid that the small might still be a bit baggy on me as per the RevZilla description. But I found it pretty true to size. I'm between a 38-40 in the chest. The Small fist nice with the liner. Without the liner, it still fits great, but has room for a hoodie or light jacket underneath.

Do you have any idea how this would feel in 80-85F weather?
A C on Mar 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I wore it in 80F degree weather because i knew i was going to stay out late and it was going to be 60 at night.

With just a T-Shirt and no lining, it was hot at 80F. I would not wear this in such temperatures if i was just doing daytime riding in that temperature.

It felt great in 60 degree weather with just a T-Shirt and no lining.

This thing is definitely made for Fall and Winter
Is the Jacket warm down to 30-40-50 degrees?
Gerald C on Oct 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 40-50 degrees no problem, although I'd recommend a long-sleeve t-shirt with it. 30 degrees is pushing it though. You'll need a thermal top for sure.

Hi, I bought the Forcefield back protector and it fits perfectly. Anyone know if the Forcefield shoulders and elbow protectors are less bulky and will fit the Merlin Sandon wax jacket?

BEST ANSWER: I can't speak for Forcefield, but i did replace the shoulder pads with the ICON D30. Its now less boxy looking and even more comfortable due to the ICON D30s flexibility
I am 6'1", 270lbs, 40 inch waist and about 46 chest, 2xl or 3xl? the video say down a size.
