Looks good, feels sturdy and gives you peace of mind. Yamaha FJ-09
These engine guards feel solid, look good on the bike and provide protection over a large portion of the engine. After installation, the bars are held by 3 bolts on each side: two on the engine mounting points, and one below, near the brake/gear levels. In the event of a drop, they will protect the gas tank and the entire engine as well.

Installation wise, they are not too hard to install if you have some experience. However, the instructions provided are really poor.

First, they list just an 8mm Hex key and a 17mm wrench as the required tools. However, you also need 12 and 14mm socket wrenches and a 14mm wrench to remove some original components.

Second: begin on the left side. Remove both engine mounting bolts, and then remove the hex headed bolt, just in front of the passenger foot peg harness. This is a long bolt that goes all the way to the other side. You need to hold a nut near the rear brake pedal to loosen it. Then, pull the bolt all the way out and install the guard. This bolt seems to hold part of the side/center stand system, so I'd recommend asking a friend to hold the bike straight during removal and installation. Mount the bar and tighten all 3 bolts again.

Then, go to the right side. Process here is quite similar. The only difference is in the lower anchoring point. This time, you have to remove one of the bolts of the foot peg harness, put 2 spacers and then install the bar and tighten.

If you install the right side first, the bar will be covering the nut of the long bolt when you need to hold it.

Once installed, they blend perfectly with the line of the bike. Feel really happy with this product.

Sadly, I wanted to test them, but the owner of the bike started screaming at me when I was about to drop it on the ground. What a bummer.... :-)

Great Product
So to start off terrible instructions, if I didnt use the forums it probably wouldve take a lot longer than it did. After I installed them they look amazing on the bike, gives it a nice rugged look. Material feels great hopefully will never have to test the durability. Shipping was fantastic came in nice and quick. The price is well worth the product!!!

Installation: Absolutely start on the left side. Taking that bottom bolt out by the gear shift lever is a pain, had to use a hammer and some force to pull it out. Taking the engine frame bolts off wasnt to bad (dont do it with a warm engine). I had a lot of problems taking the right side bottom bolt off, its on there nice and tight. Once all the bolts are off installation is very simple. Im terrible with working on my FJ, I try to avoid it, but this wasnt bad at all.

Look and Feel: Taking the guards out of the box the material feels sturdy, good material, and not cheap. As I said above the guards look fantastic on the bike, especially compared to all the other products available for the FJ.

If your looking for engine guards I will absolutely recommend this product.

Great protection for the FJ-09
These bars seem to be the most substantial of all the crash bars available for the fj-09 at the moment. They are easy to install and do a great job of protecting the extruding parts of the crank case and clutch housing.

The instructions leave a bit to be desired but its easy enough to figure it out.

Easy to install
Can't tell you about durability or performance since I had it on for about a month.

Over all easy to install and good value compared to other engine block covers and sliders that would set me back about $500.

Installed on FJ-09 setup for touring.

Great finish
These by far are the best looking for the FJ09. All bolts are easy to install except the left side which the bottom bolt goes all the way through the bike. Note there is a nut on the other side. Other than that super easy install and look awesome!!!!

bought it, crashed it.
i bought these with the expectation of mounting up some aux lights to my FJ09. i had zero intention of actually using them in a crash. well, a couple weeks after install, an Uber driver made a left turn in front of me in which i could not avoid.

low speed impact. the bike pretty much fell onto it's left side. the guards worked. my stator cover DID make contact with the ground. my blinker made SLIGHT contact. My hand guard made slight contact. and my OEM saddle bag took the rest of the brunt.

no plastics were harmed in the testing of the givi engine crash bars. haha! though, the crash bars BENT pretty good. the top rear engine mount is skewed now, as well as the lower portion, near the stator. the bar is proper bent inwards and upwards.

install was mostly intimidating, yet not terribly difficult. i HATE working on things, so i really had to just man up and get it done. you have to pull motor mounts and centerstand mounts to get it on. the directions were simple. took me about 30 mins to put em both on by myself.

i received one with the powder coating/paint scratched and already showing a bit of rust (the right side)... but i needed them that weekend for a trip, so i just dealt with it.

all in all, they're inexpensive and in a very low speed crash, saved me quite a bit of money in repairs.

oh, and they're kinda heavy and make wheelies a little harder to do :)

Quality product from givi
Givi crash-bars for the fj09/mt09 tracer are a quality product, well made, with good all engine protection.

While there are many competing products out there, none appear to protect both lower parts of the engine and upper fairing.

Would rate higher except the crash bars have not been 'tested'.

poor quality
For a Yamaha FJ-09 I would recommend a professional install. There are some bolts that you have to remove that are greater the 60 ft lbs (67 I think) which is nearly impossible with normal tools. I was using a breaker bar and could not remove the bolts around the foot pegs.

The first set of bars I received were scratched up. and had several bad bolts. The replacement I received had several bad bolts. I ended up going to the hardware store to buy bolts. Givi makes some nice stuff but there sure do have some quality control issues.
