Successful mesh/leather hybrid
I live in a hot climate, but value protection and style.

I considered perforated leather or full mesh jackets, and finally settled on the Piuma.

*The good*
I'm very satisfied with my choice. The jacket looks good in person and feels great. It's understated and functional but sleek. The leather is thick and high quality, and the mesh is substantial but flexible and smooth. Zippers feel great as well. The forearms are very snug but after a couple wears you get used to it/it molds to you and it's very comfortable, with the armor securely in the proper place. When I'm moving more than 15kph the airflow is fantastic - I feel it across my torso and upper arms and even back. The pockets are functional (if few) and the subtle branding and reflective piping is great. The armor is fantastic and it includes a real back protector!!

*The not so good*
Wearing a jacket in the heat still kind of sucks. When you're stopped in traffic, you get hot. This isn't a fault of the Piuma, but it's worth knowing. Even while moving, the forearm area of the sleeve does not breathe like the rest of the jacket, so they get warm. Due to the form-fit of the sleeves, sometimes the liner gets pushed out a bit when my hand goes through, which got caught on my glove's velcro once (not a big negative). The size chart puts me solidly in a medium, and I fit perfectly into a small. It's definitely built for a relatively fit body type - if i had a bigger gut it would be very obvious.

*Overall I'm very satisfied and would buy it again if it were stolen or ruined in a crash*

Love this jacket!
I’ve been searching for a leather/mesh jacket for some time. There are other options out there, but I wanted something rather simple, with no exterior armor and no overdone designs. This pretty much eliminates all other leather/mesh hybrids.

This jacket is exactly what I was looking for. The mesh is fine weaved which you usually only see in more expensive jackets. It looks great and almost looks like an all leather jacket. The leather is quite thick, but has stretch panels in the arms and back for flexibility. The collar’s inner lining is soft and comfortable.

A note about sizing. Many sources tell you to size down for this jacket. Luckily I tried this jacket on before purchasing. I’m 5’8, 155lbs. The Medium fits me spot on. There’s room around the waist and stomach but the chest is snug. This jacket is meant for people with skinny arms. The whole jacket is slim fit but the sleeves are especially skinny. I don’t have huge arms by any means but I do hit the gym regularly and if not for the stretch panels in the inner arms I would not be able to get into the sleeves ( the size small was not working at all).

I truely love this jacket! Haven’t crash tested and hope I never do. Tour master (Cortech) even gives you a vest liner and CE armor, including the back protector. Other manufacturers get you on that one, but no cheap foam armor with the Piuma. The only con I can think of is it’s only available in black. A light color would be nice too.

Great overall jacket
I shopped well over 2 dozen jackets and kept coming back to the Piuma. Being on a cruiser I had to have leather, which this does nicely with the arms and chest strips - but the styling here could easily be worn on spor5 bikes too. At the same time I wasn't willing to compromise anything less that D3O everywhere including the back. I'm 5'7" 170 very atgketuc build and this guys like a glove (only complaint is a little extra fabric in the belly compared to my build but it's not a deal breaker.

There is a warm vest liner that can be removed for hot weather, the mesh chest vents very nicely across the body on a hot day but snug tapered arms don't allow huge air flow even when riding.

My only true complaint is that it can be pretty chilly under 50 degrees so a very thin polar fleece is recommended (I.E Eddie Bauer first ascent) otherwise even a hoodie under feels cramped, but you have to make concessions when picking a jacket intentionally cut to be form fitting.

Overall I would recommend this as a great value for the price and styling.

Best in its niche
So I’m a relatively new rider that expects that at some point I’ll go down so protection is a must. To that end I’ve been piecing together the most protective gear I can actually expect to wear for any given weather conditions.
This jacket definitely has its place in my line up, it fits in the gap between 75-85 degree temps really well and doesn’t sacrifice protection to get there. Any hotter and I’ve found that I’m still pretty miserable in traffic. At speed the mesh flows fairly well even with a backpack with chest straps on.
Just a note that the sleeves are a little tight and will leave you hoping for more air flow but not getting it.
In terms of padding, this thing is built like a tank, the shoulder and elbows are good to go, kind of confused about the back since it states lvl 1 on the tags but the revzilla video states lvl 2. In any case it’s still a great bang for your buck in terms of off the shelf protective padding.
The leather is high quality and seems like it will hold up to the long haul. With all the protection built into this thing, it’s clearly not lightweight, it is about the same weight as a full leather racing jacket if you’ve ever tried one on.
Final thoughts:
If you hate the logo on the chest you can pop the stitches with a razor blade and be done with it.

In terms of protection vs comfort this is about as close as you’ll get to a 50/50 split under the $400-500 dollar mark, I spent months shopping prior to making this purchase and couldn’t find a better alternative at a decent price point.

Having rode multiple 90 plus days with heat indexes pushing 100+ I was the only person on the road I saw wearing any leather and of my group,) all of which own gear), I was still the only one willing to gear up. It was because for them, the protection didn’t overcome the discomfort. With this jacket and it’s more even split it was an easier choice to make.
