What's this?

Bell Qualifier DLX MIPS Accelerator Helmet

The Bell Qualifier DLX Helmet comes jam packed with the great features of the Qualifier and also includes the Transitions Adaptive Face Shield at an impressive price.

The RevZilla gear specialists have been rolling through miles and time zones faster than Marquez powers through laps at Sachsenring, which is to say pretty darn fast. Having just returned from Cologne, Germany and Intermot 2014, they have seen the best of what’s new, what’s fun, and what is worth reporting in the ever-expanding moto-verse. From bikes cranking out 300 hp, to the tip of the spear with regards to new helmets, apparel, and motorcycle accessories, they saw it, rocked it, and are back here at RevZilla HQ ready to keep you informed so that you can make the most out of your time on two wheels.

One of the hottest items from the International Motorcycle, Scooter, and E-Bike Fair (Intermot) was the Bell Qualifier DLX Helmet. When it was unveiled in Germany it was shown to have several incredibly cool features that were not applicable to previous iterations. Most notably, it was announced that this helmet would come with a free Transitions photochromatic face shield and the ability to house a Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth communication unit (with the proper adapter plate). This is far-out for a helmet of any ilk, much less one that will come at an entry-level price point. Both of these features will offer a massive value-add to an already popular helmet. What’s that you say, you don’t rock a Sena but prefer the Cardo Q3 instead? Fair enough, to each their own. Bell has you covered for that too, as they have announced that an adapter plate will be offered which will make the latter compatible with the DLX Helmet as well.

Love it so far, a few observations
Surprisingly light, excellent outward vision, good air flow to the visor to prevent fogging. I love the integrated intercom port. I've worn it exactly once (my 20 miles highway commute), so no long term data yet. Chin curtain is a bonus. Lots of features. I hope I don't test the MIPS feature, and I'm glad it is there.

Sizing: I measure right in the middle of the Large range, but Large was too small. XL isn't any too big on me.

Fit: the chin curtain is more like a lower lip curtain on me, and my chin is conspicuously below the chin bar. Bell and I also disagree as to where my ears should be.

The Transitions shield should be terrific in the summer. Right now it is winter, and the shield is too dark on overcast days (I've ordered a clear shield). Also slow to lighten, makes high speed work in a tunnel an adventure.

That's it so far.

Great helmet but......
I purchased this helmet a few months ago but didn't really get to use it the way I intended to until recently and I love the helmet except for the one main feature for which I purchased it for. This helmet is very noisy once you install the Sena SMH 10 headset. You would think that a helmet that is designed with the headset integration would be quieter than having it attached to the outside of the helmet but it's not true in this case. I have a Nolan 3/4 open face helmet with the Ncom system and it is very quiet compared to this helmet. Unfortunately you have to use it before you realize this and at that point you can't return the helmet anymore. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a better seal at the SMH 10 port to try and cut down the wind noise. If I cover the unit with my hand while riding it's amazing how much quieter it becomes. It's really a shame because otherwise it's a great helmet I would've given 5 stars to.

Bell makes great helmets
This helmet is great. It's very comfortable, it looks great. The transition face shield it comes with is awesome and it has a very good anti fog coating. The only minor downsides is that it has some wind noise that gets in from the bluetooth port, it doesn't have a visor lock of any kind, the back of the helmet is cut a little too high for my liking, and if you turn your head to the wrong angle wind will catch on something and quickly yank your head back. But I highly recommend this helmet. It's great overall.

Pro Tips: Get the high-viz colorway. I just looks better.

Extream value
After looking at budget helmets in the $200-$300 range. Hands down this helmet won out. I don't know how much the MIPS will help in a crash, they say it can. So once again to have it at under $300 with the transitions adaptive face shield. I'm really happy. I had my doubts about the face shield. some reviews said it didn't go clear at night, or dark enough in the sun. It definitely goes clear at night. I suppose if your looking directly into the sun, it could be darker. I think it's dark enough. The optical clarity is so good, I give the lens 4.5 stars. I will be sad when it's time to replace it, it cost $130. I'll probably get the much cheaper clear and or tented lens. If it lasts a couple of years I'll likely replace the whole helmet In the same breath you can get a decent helmet for $130. So to me the whole package has amazing value. Finally the fit. I measured close to the top of bell's chart as a small. I went against the advice of most and bought the small. All I can say is within an hour of getting it UPS had it back on their truck. I chose to buy the next size up before the return was possessed, I was relieved when the refund showed up within a 5 days. Back to the fit. The medium fit perfectly snug. My head shape is correct for the helmet. I think Bell needs to revisit there chart sizing, at least for this specific model.

Great helmet for the money
This is my third helmet, my last one was a scorpion EVO. The comfort was spot on with this helmet, the size is about what you'd expect, and the colors are neat.

The things that caught me about this helmet are the weight. It's much lighter than my scorpion helmet which was fantastic. It doesn't feel "cheap," just nice and light.

The comfort was a bit snug at first, but all helmets need a "break in," and since it's been great. I wear glasses when I ride, so that's something I always need to take into consideration with a helmet.

The transition lenses are freaking sweet, and should be a requirement for all helmets. I had a mirror visor on my previous EVO so these aren't as dark, but not having to change out the visor for night or day/cloudy riding is awesome.

The air flow is bad. Period. With all the vents open it feels about as good as my Scorpion did with all them closed., basically no airflow except what comes under the face guard. This is easily the helmets worst trait, so be cognizant if you live in hot environment this is a little brutal.

Noise, it's a noisy helmet. To be honest this doesn't bother me all that much, because every helmet I've ever used was noisy and I wear ear plugs always. If your going to wear this helmet I was highly suggest wearing plugs, it's really loud otherwise and you'll probably damage your hearing. I'm not sure what price point gets you a helmet that doesn't require ear plugs, but this ain't it. Like I said though, not really a big gripe as I feel anything in this price range will be the same way.

Overall this is a nice helmet, and it makes big strides from your basic run of the mill full face helmet with the transition lenses, Bluetooth device attachment, MIPS protection, lightweight, and wide field of view. However, airflow and sound leave a little to be desired.

Great Helmet, Great Features
The Bell Qualifier DLX has been a great helmet so far. The Transitions visor is fantastic. Having to juggle extra visors is a pain, and if you wear prescription glasses, it's a godsend. The MIPS system is a plus, hopefully I'll never have to find out how well it works. My only complaint is the amount of noise the comm port creates when you turn your head, or have a good perpendicular breeze. Maybe inserting a piece of foam in the port will quiet the noise. I think Bell missed the boat on that one a bit.

Really good, and not expensive
It was time to replace my old Shark RSi, and it's always annoyed me to carry two face shields, worrying about if I need to switch clear to dark, etc. I don't like wearing sunglasses under the helmet. On my mountain bike, I switched to photochromic lenses on my riding glasses for the same reason and it is fantastic to never think about the lens, just ride.
A photochromic face shield was a requirement in finding a new helmet, which severely limits the choices to a couple Bell models (Qualifier DLX, Star), a couple Shoei models, and Lazer. Checking some out in person, the Qualifier DLX seems much nicer than the price suggests, and is about 1/3 the price of a Transitions equipped Star. Trigger pulled.
After some initial use, the Qualifier DLX works like a helmet should, and I never think about face shield tint anymore. It's clear when it needs to be, and it's dark when it needs to be.
The field of vision is a little narrower top to bottom than my old Shark, which is mildly annoying. And, the vents on top of the helmet noticeably increase wind noise when open.
I would buy it again. Whenever it's time to replace this one, I'll be looking for something that has a little less wind noise, a little tall field of view, and willing to spend a little more for it, but not $600.

Good bang for the buck!
The helmet is satisfactory but it is too loud and a bit larger than expected. I love the mips technology but disappointed that Scala doesn't work with the built in communicator mount. I had to attach my device on the housing since it wouldn't fit inside of it. I also wish the airflow was better since the vents seem not to allow enough air to properly cool down in hot weather.

Good budget helmet
This helmet is great for the price. The Pro's It's quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time with Plenty of Airflow coming in. The transition shield is awesome never have to worry about carrying an extra face shield. Having that MIPS feature gives you a little more sense of security on the road. The design of the helmet I got was the Hi-Viz and it look awesome and pretty cool with the sena 10s being flush with the helmet I get quite a few compliments from it.
The cons of the Helmet, once hitting about 60+ mph the wind noise gets quite loud and in order to use the integrated bluetooth slot you must buy an additional adapter. Overall I am highly satisfied with this helmet.

Awesome helmet
I was deciding between this and the basic Qualifier, and I figured the added MIPS protection was worth the small jump in price. Plus the graphics are way cooler. Overall this is a very nice helmet. The padding is comfortable and feels like quality. The Transitions visor is just awesome. And the ventilation is pretty good, with vents at the chin and eyebrow as well as the crown. The only knock against it is the noise: They removed padding around the ears to make room for speakers, reducing the ability to suppress wind noise. It's a bit of a trade-off, I guess.

Four letters: MIPS. That and the fact that Bell consistently follows through with both DOT and ECE standards when it comes to their helmets. My noggin is worth the protection and my pocket appreciates the fair price tag. The transitional lens is the chocolate syrup on top (and who doesn't like chocolate).

Does this helmet take prescription glasses?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Glasses are difficult to use initially, but after a bit of use a channel does open up. The visors for this helmet seem to be optically correct. When you first put on this helmet, you may be surprised at how glass like the view through it is.
If your glasses are Sunglasses and you don't want the transitions to automatically darken, you can buy a clear visor.
Will the Sena SMH10 setup from a Bell Sena Mag 9 helmet transfer over to the Bell Qualifier? Any extra bits required?
Mark H on Jan 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is all the same hardware. I have a Qualifier DLX, and I'm planning to get a Mag 9 Sena this summer plus an additional mounting setup. Then the main unit can be used with both helmets.
