Akrapovic Racing Exhaust System Yamaha XSR 900
The Akrapovic Racing Carbon Fiber system, with its striking carbon fiber outer-sleeve and stainless steel headers, suits the naked design of the Yamaha bike and this exhaust will certainly bring the best out of the high-torque 3-cylinder engine that beats inside the heart of the Yamaha. Producing an extra 4.7lb-ft of torque at 5,150 rpms and increased power output of 6.8HP, the Racing Line (Carbon) will produce powerful and thrilling performance in everyday conditions, as well as help to improve the overall experience of the machine thanks to a weight saving 8.4lb from the original system!
The Akrapovic Racing Line has been designed specifically for demanding riders and represents an ideal balance between price and performance. The exhaust systems are dramatically lighter compared to stock exhaust systems and feature exceptional production quality and increased engine performance combined with pure racing sound output. The headers and mid-pipes are constructed of high-quality stainless steel conical tubes with precision handcrafting. A special process known as hydroforming is used in the manufacturing of the exhaust pipes. This process injects pressurized water into each tube to form the ideal shape for optimum exhaust flow without causing creases or compromising the strength of the steel.
Akrapovic Exhaust’s unique design enables them to obtain the maximum output for each specific model of motorcycle, while significantly reducing overall weight. It’s not just about peak power - Akrapovic exhaust systems deliver increased performance throughout the entire RPM range. Increased power and torque result in a much smoother ride. All Akrapovic exhaust system measurements are formulated on in-house computer-controlled flow benches.
The Racing Line is identical to Akrapovic’s top range Evolution Line exhaust systems, with the major difference being the material that is used for the headers and mid-pipes. The headers and mid-pipes of the Evolution Line are constructed exclusively of titanium while the Racing Line uses stainless steel.
- High quality stainless steel headers and mid-pipes
- No fuel remapping required, but for optimal performance RevZilla recommends use of a fuel controller
- A combination of beautiful machine and hand welds
- CNC machined muffler inlet cap
- Optimized to maximize lean angle
- All carbon fiber parts are produced in-house
- Air-tight quality controlled production means your exhaust will be perfect
- High-quality, silicon-shielded stainless steel exhaust springs

Reviews & Questions
Major highlight: the headers fit perfect. I've installed a handful of exhausts in the past and always had some challenge getting headers to sit perfect without any initial air leak. Not the case with the akra, it exceeded my expectations and literally just went right on without any fuss.
I rated ease of install a 5 because everything about the akra system was easy and straightforward. The only issue I had with install was the lower rearset bolt getting stripped when I tried to remove it but that's the Yamaha locktite not the akra and the $2.00 bolt was easily replaced.
I'm not the biggest fan of the splotchy color changes on the pipes. I was meticulous about using gloves and wiping it all down before initial fire up but I still have some bluish instead of gold "spots" specifically near the cross tubes between the 3 headers. It's likely just due to a mix of metals and heat in those specific places.
I removed the DB killer rather easily after running it a 100 or so miles with it in. The change to the sound does not seem that significant in or out so I am leaving it out. I do ride with earplugs.
Otherwise, it seems standard issue. I was hoping for a tad more rear wheel HP (dyno tuned with PC V at 111hp). But I realize HP and torque gains aren't super-significant with exhaust adds.
Time will tell if this was the right choice over my prior loyalty to Two Brothers. I must admit, I was kicking myself a bit for not just going with the Two Brothers right off the bat but I went for a slight money savings here and have no regrets right now.
