Yes, a good mesh jacket is safe! While the mesh material provides the airflow, the jacket is reinforced with heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant textile (like Cordura or nylon) in all the key impact areas—like the shoulders, elbows, and back. Will a mesh jacket protect me from road rash
 A high-quality mesh jacket is designed to protect you from road rash. The combination of strong mesh and reinforced textile panels is engineered to withstand a slide. It might not survive as well as a top-end leather jacket, but it is worlds safer than riding in just a t-shirt or hoodie.

Do mesh jackets come with armor?
Absolutely. Any reputable mesh jacket will come with CE-rated armor for the shoulders and elbows, and it will have a pocket for you to add a (highly recommended) back protector. The armor is what protects you from the impact, while the shell protects you from the slide.

What if it gets cold or starts to rain?
This is the downside of all that airflow! Many mesh jackets come with a removable liner that is windproof and/or waterproof. This liner blocks the air and traps your body heat, instantly turning your "air-conditioned" jacket into a solid shell. It's a great feature to look for.
