The U.S. Motocross des Nations team of Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, and Justin Cooper won the international competition on home soil this weekend, the 23rd U.S. victory but the first since 2011
.While the weather was beautiful for practice and qualifying at Red Bud in Michigan, rain Saturday night left the track muddy and treacherous. It would have been easy to have a disastrous finish that would hurt the team's chances, but the three U.S. riders were solid throughout the day's three motos.
In the end, the U.S. finished first with 16 points, ahead of France with 23 and Australia in third with 26 points. Scoring is based on the riders' finishing positions, with each competitor riding in two motos and the worst of the six scores dropped. See the highlights below.
"It's been a long time," Tomac said after the win. "Too long. They don't come easy. This is my fourth attempt, fourth try. We all pulled our weight today, which is really cool."
