Video: Upcoming Triumph Tiger 900 Rally and GT

Nov 14, 2019

The rumors are true. Triumph is building two Tiger variants that enthusiasts keep requesting.

As you can guess from the names, the Rally will be the more hardcore off-roader, and the GT will enhance the Tiger’s touring prowess.

They haven’t given us much to work with, but here’s the teaser that just dropped.

The 900 platform replaces Triumph’s popular Tiger 800 series. (Back in the 1990s, Triumph built Tiger 900s, aka the "steamers." A few different displacements have come and gone, and now we’ve gone full circle back to 900.)

I’d expect upspec brakes, a revised chassis, and enhanced electronics for 2020. The Scrambler 1200 offers a GoPro integration system, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that show up here, too. And check out the new LED headlight!

As Common Tread’s resident Tiger guy, Spurgeon is watching these bikes closely, especially the Rally. “It looks like Triumph is making changes to create the more off-road-focused adventure bike that riders have been asking for," he said. "That means a removable subframe, removable passenger footpegs, and lighter weight.”

They aren't showing us much, but from what we can see, the Tiger's getting meaner for 2020. Triumph photo.

“I’m hoping it lives up to the hype they’ve been building around it,” he continued. “We might also see upgraded suspension for those of us who want to push the Tiger harder. And I’m wondering if they’ll offer an 18-inch rear instead of a 17.”

More details will be revealed on December 3 and you’ll definitely see more coverage of these motorcycles on Common Tread.
