Podcast: Are motorcycles the cheapest way to get around?

May 07, 2022

"I think I'm going to buy a motorcycle/scooter. They're they cheapest vehicles on the road, right?"

Zack and Spurgeon are joined by special guest Spenser Robert for an in-depth discussion: Are motorcycles actually the cheapest mode of everyday transportation? Walking and bicycling are tough to beat, but for longer travels, motorcycles seem to be a thrifty choice.

Motorcycles are generally cheaper than cars to purchase up front, and even the least efficient production motorcycles squeeze reasonable mileage out of every gallon. The pendulum swings back against motorcycles with factors like more expensive tires, higher insurance, more frequent maintenance/service intervals, and gear costs. Of course, the answer depends on where riders live, and which motorcycles they choose, but that doesn’t stop the HS/LS hosts from trying to find the definitive answer.

Zack and Spurg also talk about the Stuart Garner fiasco at Norton, the possible upcoming BMW R1400GS, and Yamaha’s interest in power steering for motorcycles.
