Saturday is National Motorcycle Ride Day

Oct 11, 2018

For some of us, all Saturdays are ride days.

Maybe every day means a motorcycle ride day for you. (MotoADVR, how many consecutive days are you up to now?) But for plenty of riders in the United States, the season is winding down, and motorcycles are already manacled by covers and battery tenders. Wait just a minute, winterizers. National Motorcycle Ride Day is this Saturday,

If you haven’t heard of National Motorcycle Ride Day, don’t sweat it. According to the National Day Calendar, “National Motorcycle Ride Day was submitted in August 2015 by Chad Geer of Dunlop Tire N.A.,” so it’s fairly new. Here at RevZilla, we’ll ride for any reason, so we asked a few Zillans around the office what they have planned for this weekend.

Eric and his Scrambler are joining the rest of his club for a celebratory birthday run to Lancaster. “We’ve got a weekend ride through the farmland and valleys, then we’re meeting up back at our shop. Check out my buddies @straightup_squirrel and @Roger_luv on Instagram (the birthday guys). They have some cool builds. Squirrel is probably one of the best wheelie riders I know.”

Taylor is also riding to Lancaster, but she’s burning up buggy roads solo on her CB600F.

For his Saturday, Brandon’s pointing his Thruxton’s wheels at the Poconos, or as he prefers, "Poke-Yuh-Nose." His group is hunting for winding mountain roads, which should be full of foliage as fall descends on the northern parts of our state. They aren’t riding just to see some leaves, though. “After going to MXDN this past weekend, Sunday will be a day in the dirt for me,” said Brandon. “I'll probably try to jump something beyond my capabilities and get horribly injured... still gonna send it!” Hopefully Brandon won’t inspire National Ambulance Ride Day.

Steve’s BMW R nineT Pure was stuffed in a parking garage while he moved to his new place, but he’ll have the bike back on the road just in time for Ride Day. Is there anything better than finally getting the bike back?

Clarke reports that the only thing he’ll be riding on Saturday is his mower to mulch leaves. It’s his anniversary weekend, so the guy gets a pass. (His 1967 slabside Shovel might disagree.) When you’re out riding, give the throttle an extra twist for Clarke.

Spurgeon’s weekend is just what you’d expect from the biggest KTM enthusiast on Common Tread’s staff. “I'll be spending my day with motorcycles, which is par for the course for most of my Saturdays. But this weekend is a little bit out of the ordinary because Solid Performance KTM in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, is having a Demo Day for the new 790 Duke. So if you live in the Northeast and want to be one of the first people in the country to get a ride on this bike, you should stop by and throw a leg over it!”

As for me? I’ll be dialing in a quick throttle in the garage on Friday night, so Saturday will reveal if a slow bike has been made a little easier to live with. Ice cream breaks are an important part of this testing procedure. I’m also planning on stopping by Martin Moto to see the Honda CB1000R they just received. After that, who knows? If you see a beat Kawasaki outside, say hi!

National Motorcycle Ride Day is still a fledgling holiday, but who cares? Grab some friends, top off the tanks, and take a motorcycle ride. Sorry, Clarke.
