Harley auctions custom LiveWire for COVID-19 recovery

May 13, 2020

In collaboration with Bonhams, Harley-Davidson is auctioning off a customized LiveWire electric motorcycle, with all proceeds going to the United Way Worldwide and their efforts to fight the virus.

The donated LiveWire, with an estimated value of $35,000 to $45,000, is a one-of-one factory custom built using “#500 of 500 ‘First Strike’ edition LiveWires.” The team threw a full catalog’s worth of carbon fiber parts and accessories at the bike, then painted it with a grey/green livery only to be used on this bike. Signatures from the Davidson family finish it off.

The winner also gets “travel and accommodations to Milwaukee for a special delivery experience, including private tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum.”

As for United Way, their U.S. division is reporting that calls for assistance, mostly for food, financial help and housing, are 200 percent to 400 percent higher than normal. "We expect as many calls for help in the next six months as we usually get in a full year,” the non-profit reported. You can read more about the United Way’s COVID-19 response here.

At the time of writing, the bid stands at $25,000. The auction ends May 26 May at 4 p.m. Eastern time.

If you're looking to donate somewhere moto-related, but don't have $28,000+ to give, consider checking with your local independent shops. Many are raffling bikes off on social media, either to support charitable causes or to keep their businesses from closing up for good.
