Apparently, there is no solidarity among machines.
My colleague Zack Courts spotted this video on Instagram. (It seems that when you have a broken ankle, you have some time to scroll Instagram that might otherwise have been wasted on things like, you know, walking.) The scene is a street in Los Angeles where a delivery robot encounters a motorcycle parked on the sidewalk and decides to dispense a little punishment.
Who do you side with here? Of the thousands of comments posted on Instagram, the vast majority are with the robot, including opinions from some who say they are motorcyclists themselves. No sympathy for the rider who parked on the sidewalk.
Maybe that's something to keep in mind if you're tempted to do a little unauthorized parking of your motorcycle yourself. In most cities you're unlikely to be confronted by a delivery robot, admittedly, but there's also a lot more animosity than forgiveness and a human hand might topple your bike, as well.
