Does not work properly. Voice is garbled.
I ordered the SC1 communications module for my C4 helmet. I just finished a 2500+ mile ride through Canada with two other riders who both had Sena headsets. Neither of them could understand what I was saying clearly but they both could hear each other just fine. I noticed that I am not the only one with this problem while doing some research. I contacted both Schuberth and Sena directly over a week ago and have not heard anything back. Not the best of customer service.

Very disappointed
Let me start with saying that I was very happy to know that finally Schuberth and Sena worked together to perfect the experience of riders with the all new Schuberth C4. I prefer Sena products better of the competitors (Scala)
I loved the idea of the integrated system within the new helmet and I couldn’t wait to test it this weekend. Here is my experience and impression of the new SC1 after 640 miles:
Let’s start with the charging port on the unit (Micro USB)- it is very difficult to hold the helmet in one hand and with other hand insert the male port while trying to have the port cover open. You need to have the helmet upside down on a surface and careful not to scratch the helmet. But that is not the only design issue. The biggest issue is that you will not be able to leave the helmet seating on a surface to charge as the design and location of the port might cause the port to damage or disconnect as it pushes against the surface. Wrong place for the port!
Now let’s move to actual usability:
At first, all was great (beside my wrong configuration of need to speak load to open intercom connections- my throat hurt after today ride. I connected my SC1 with my wife SRC on Schuberth C3 Pro and my NAV V. Nice at the beginning, no issues. Then the problems start: if my lid was open, I could not initiate connection with voice command because of the microphone location, so lid must be close all the time.
Most of the time, my wife could not understand what I say and I had to repeat over and over, loader and loader (we use her helmet with my Arai XD4 with Sena SMH10 and no issues at all). From time to time she told me I sound like inside a jar or muffled.
In many occasions, I saw message on my NAV V: Bluetooth disconnected (and I still could hear instructions from the navigation).
In some other instances the navigation voice commands cut off or sound not clear at all (like you hear when you have bad wireless connection on your phone).
Now, let’s talk on buttons functions: very hard to use it with gloves on, almost not possible at all!
Charging indicator: light is not easily visible if you look at the helmet from the side. You need to always lift the helmet and look at the inside of the helmet and look for the color.
Frankly, I am very disappointed, I chose the helmet because of the SC1 system (as I was looking at different helmet for a while).
I hope you going to improve it soon and come with SW version updates that will improve connectivity, sound quality and sensitivity.
At this point I rate the SC1 with 2 stars out of 5. Please do something to correct it.

Great system
I installed this in my new R2 helmet (see that review for information about the helmet)

Sound quality is amazing. Has great bass and clear treble.
Familiar Sena voice prompts. (this unit is closely related to the 10U)
Very easy to control with only 2 buttons (+ and -)
Installation was very easy.
Battery came with enough charge to test it out and pair with my iPhone and Rider 400 GPS. Did a short ride and still had battery.
Automatic level control adjusts music volume based on ambient noise. Works very well.

The SC1A apparently has FM radio and slightly better intercom range.

Junk.
Everything about the SC1 is a huge disappointment. No one can hear you. At its loudest volume, it can not overcome wind noise over 40mph. But mostly, I'm deeply disappointed in the false marketing by Schuberth (and possibly Sena). They say the following on the Schuberth website:

"RIDE SAFELY WITH: ADVANCED NOISE CONTROL™
Forget about external noise – with Advanced Noise Control™ the wind and road noise is drastically reduced without affecting how you perceive your surroundings."

This does nothing of the sort. Advance Noise Control has zero perceptible effect.

I will be on the lookout for another helmet/coms system. At $1000, Schuberth's should be the best. It is far from it.

MUST Update to Firmware version 1.2
It is unfortunate to see this amazing piece of technology getting such low rating due to "incomplete" software. I bought this July of 2018 and firmware update to 1.2 from 1.0 was available to pretty much fix every complaint listed on these reviews. I have 2 of these units, one in my C4 and on in my wife's R2. Intercom sound is so clear and loud, its insane. Both I and my wife had to lower the down volume. This was our 1st time using intercom during our 2-up ride and what a difference!!!! We were on for couple hours and not a single issue in clarity or connection. When riding solo, i listen to music the entire ride. Speakers are fantastic. Bluetooth connected to my Note 8 with no issues streaming music. I encourage folks who bought this unit early on to upgrade their firmware to v1.2 and give this another chance. A must to enjoy this great communication piece. Schuberth should have not rushed it to market initially and instead took their time to get the software right, but they owned the problem and I am a happy customer.

Hands Free Features don't work with Samsung S7
Everything else works great but Schuberth & Sena didn't test it with the largest Android phone manufacturer in the world (Samsung's sold 55+ million S7 series phones). After 2+ weeks of having their "tech support" tell me to reboot or uninstall/reinstall the firmware numerous times, now I have to send it back to get a new one and install their defective firmware again... World's most expensive helmet with the world's most terrible service.

Firmware Update Please!
Like others, I purchased this for my Schuberth C4 (which I love!). There is huge potential with this unit that --unfortunately at the moment--cannot be fully utilized as intended/advertised. Please Schuberth/Sena et al, kindly update firmware so the unit performs flawlessly with my iPhone 6S. Take a look at the message boards; you are well aware of the issues with the intercom, voice activation and music interface issues many--like me-- are having presently.

Nope.
I have read the other reviews and they are all correct, so I wanted to add my name to the list. Helmet communication systems are so “not in this century”, it’s like this whole industry is years behind, and so when I read the description of the C4 and the SC1, with no stupid boom mic (mic on a stick) to get in the way the SC1 sounded perfect. I wanted so much for this to be the one. - I am experiencing the exact same issues with the battery (not seated properly?), and with any small jolt to the helmet such as closing the chin guard, disconnects power until you (of course after getting off the bike) open the battery compartment, pull out the battery, and push it back in. So stupid. It’s as if the battery door does not keep the battery seated well enough. And lately sometimes reinserting it doesn’t work too, so I’ve got two little pencil erasers inserted between the door and the battery to fortify the battery door. That worked great for a little while but yesterday even doing that didn’t help and I believe the unit will now get no power at all. Other reviews have also talked about the clunky menu system, which also is true. It is nearly impossible to do anything while mobile other than answer calls and adjusting the volume. Very disappointed.

Great improvement over my past Cardo C3
I recently purchased the SC1 after buying the C4 Schuberth helmet to replace my previous C3 PRO with the Cardo C3 Pro system installed.

I was ok with the Cardo system but would frequently loose connection, had an older Bluetooth system that had trouble keeping up with my BMW motorcycle system..

I have been very happy with the SC1, the connection is stable and has not dropped once. The sound quality is much better then the Cardo and with it being integrated in the helmet without the boom mike is a good comfort improvement.

The only problem I have had is that the dynamic sound does not seem to function. Otherwise very impressed

20th century technology not current with technology of today's communication system
The SC1 system & the advance for the new C4 is useless, 20th century
technology not current with technology of today's communication system,
it cost more and provide less, I would expect more from a Factory like
Schuberth since the helmets are perfect then why add a cheap system that
will tarnish the factory name, I am unhappy and angry, I have 4 helmets
and they are all Schberth. I will advise other client not to buy this
helmet if they think of adding the communication since its garbage.
