Arai Corsair X Helmet

In true Arai fashion, the Corsair-X Helmet has taken helmet technology and rider protection one step further by engineering a helmet that not only guards against direct impacts, but is specifically designed to minimize the effect of "glancing off" impacts as well. Arai has created a stronger shell and smoother shape that is more likely to redirect impact energy than absorb it (therefore decreasing the amount of force transferred to the body). To increase this potential to glance off impact energy, the VAS (Variable Axis System) side pod, pivot cover is smaller in size and its position on the shell is lower.

The Arai Corsair X Motorcycle Helmet features a chin curtain that helps to block air intrusion from the turbulent air underneath the helmet, as well as increases negative pressure to enhance the exhaust ventilation performance. The interior lining includes Arai's signature 5mm peel away ear pocket padding and ear pocket recess to accommodate communicator speakers.

VAS Shield System:

Normally the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, because a lower shield pivot will not allow the shield to open or close. The VAS (Variable Axis System) has a variable axis (moving pivot point). This allows shield opening and closing even with the 24mm lower shield mount position, compared to the Corsair V.

VAS Shield Latch System:

VAS shield latch system captures and holds the shield closed more securely to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to a de-mist position, the larger latch design allows for an intuitive and seamless operation of the shield.

PB SNC2 Shell:

The Corsair X helmet shell is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight.

Diffuser Type 12:

The Corsair X Type 12 air diffusers are longer than the Corsair V and are straightened for improved aerodynamics, working together with the AirWing to improve stability, and creating a 19% gain in efficiency. The air intake vents are extremely adjustable and have three positions (closed, half open and fully open) and create a tight seal to decrease wind noise and water intrusion.

Eco Pure Liner:

The fully removable interior liner system is made from Eco Pure material, which helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption, as well as a softer liner material and adjustable temple padding to allow for a customized fit.

VAS V MV Shield:

The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding and comes standard with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert.

Additional Features:

  • VAS (Variable Axis System) shield and side pods are exclusive to the Arai Corsair X Helmet
  • Dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal
  • VAS shield latch system captures and holds the face shield closed and provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open
  • VAS MAX Vision face shield provides excellent visibility in all seasons thanks to the included Pinlock insert
  • Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat
  • Cheek pads have the Emergency Release Tab feature
  • IC Duct5 forehead vent provides 11% more airflow than the Corsair V, features 3 positions and is overall large and easy to operate with gloves
  • PB SNC2 Shell has superb tensile strength due to a variety of carefully-positioned materials and light weight resin
  • Arai's R75 shell shape creates a rounder, smoother helmet to enhance energy and impact dispersion
  • Includes clear Pinlock insert
  • Snell 2015 and DOT approved

Best Helmet I have ever owned
I have been riding for over 50 years. I have had four Arai helmets in the last 12 years. The first two I replaced because you are supposed to after about 5 years of use. the Third one I had was this same Corsair. I had it one year. Then I had a lowside. Slid for about 300 feet on asphalt. Had my ATGATT one, including my Corsair. I saved me. My head, my eyes, my neck. Everything. So I can truly say that it is crash tested from about 65 MPH to zero. My helmet bounced on asphalt including those embedded lane marker reflectors. Road rash on the left side and top of the helmet saved my face and scalp. Even the face shield did its job. never broke, cracked or dislodge. Stayed shut and endured scratches and scrapes on the whole left side. I swear by this helmet. That is exactly why a bought another identical to it. My son had a low side back in 2008 with an Arai and that helmet saved him. 70 MPH to zero. Got up and walked away. ATGATT saves lives, and skin, and heads, and ankles, and knuckles. Wear it. And wear the best. Arai is the best.

Some wind buffeting not sure why
Write First time out I got some wind buffeting and not sure why, I have a BMW R1200R with adjustable wind screen. Will have to go back out soon and see if it still happens, this creates loud noise too but the neck roll area protection helps with this. It seems to be coming from the left side face plate cover because when I put my clove hand up there to it seemed to stop, nothing is loose so I am wondering if it was a bad head wind and other related turbulence coming over and around the wind screen. Will report back later, still love it, Arai is the best helmet out thereyour review here. It must be at least 25 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

Great Helmet
Purchased a white Corsair X in large today and could not be more pleased. For the last 7 years I have been riding with a Signet Q. The Corsair X is a significant improvement. The helmet fits true to size and is very comfortable. Air flow is fantastic. There is no question I made a great purchase today. Nothing fits me like an Arai.

Awesome ventilation
Recent purchase. Was hoping for more airflow tha C3 pro. Was not dissapointed. Was concerned that helmet may be too tight. Within an hour of riding it adjusted perfect to my head. I miss the drop down visor of the C3 Pro, but the increased airflow on a 90 degree day in E Ky and SW Va definitely makes up for it. Also appreciate the lighter weight and added safety. Six hrs on curvy backroads and no neck fatigue. Highly recommend. 17 CVO Ltd Stage IV.

Arai Corsair X
I like Arai helmets they are hand made and very high quality.

You may ask why is my rating only 3 stars and the rest of the rating on the lower side as well.

One reason, Arai offers different size cheek pad and head liners, sadly I am unable to obtain the 5mm size headliner from Arai or any of its dealers.

Sadly Arai is just not being responsive in keeping this size headliner in stock and a helmet that does not properly fit you is a distraction and is dangerous when in use.

There is no excuse for Arai to continually have this 5mm headliner in an out of stock status all the time.

I just purchased two Arai Corsair X helmets, one for me and one for my wife, my wife's helmet fits her fine out of the box, me on the other have I measure at the very top side of the small helmet size which means I always have to end up purchasing the 5mm headliner to get the helmet fit correct. If I use the 7mm headliner that comes with the helmet the fit is to tight and causes pressure points that become distracting and uncomfortable.

In the future if Arai does not start doing better on stocking critical parts that are needed and effect the safety of the helmet and rider I will have no choice but to change to another brand that I can actually get parts for.

As much as I would have loved to have given Arai a 5 star rating I just can't justify anything above a 3 star rating when I can't get the correct size headliner to properly fit the helmet to my head.

For the amount of money Arai charges for this premium helmet no one should have difficultly purchasing the correct size headliners or cheek pads.

Come on Arai you are a top tier helmet manufacture, step up your game and make sure you always have the different size headliners and cheek pads in stock for your customers safety.

As serious as Arai is about producing a safe helmet for their customers Arai is really dropping the ball big time when they don't keep in stock headliners so that customer can properly fit the helmet.

Outside of the above issue the helmet is very well made and is of the finest quality.

Arai Corsair- V version 1.5
Overall the Corsair-X is a great helmet for those looking for a street or track helmet, though those already familiar with the Corsair-V shouldn't be expecting a significant difference or improvement. Having owned a few Corsair-Vs in the past (as well as been well protected in a crash) the X feels almost the same.

Features:
I didn't find the functionality changes to be an improvement over the V. Operating the tabs on the top of the helmet seemed just as difficult to find and adjust on the go as on the V. The new visor change system felt overly complex and just as time consuming, and the visor lock mechanism made it difficult to open if you needed to do so with your right hand at a traffic light (partly why I prefer a center lock). The included chin curtain is also complicated to install correctly and tightly.

Visibility:
They say visibility is improved, but X's eye port is only barely taller than the V and I didn't find a noticeable improvement. Some other brands now offer better field of view for track use (and for just looking up at traffic lights at a stop without having to tilt your head up).

Fit:
Comparing to my V, fit feels the same, but the X's shell is slightly longer giving more mouth room if you needed it (the V was good for my head and I found that the X let more air in from the chin to swirl around the face and eyes which can be annoying).

Another thing I noticed on the Corsair vs other race helmets is the way the neck-roll sits on the back of your neck. It hugs you closely, so on the hottest days it collect sweat and can feel uncomfortable. Some other race helmets have a more open back of the neck giving a cooler open air feel for me, as well as a better interface with your leathers in a tuck.

The Corsair X is a very good helmet and no doubt safe. If you're new to Arai or were perfectly happy with the V and just want the latest one, then you should be happy with it. As a previous gen owner I'd liked to have seen them make more significant improvements which is why I rate it 4 stars.

Cosair X
The Arai Corsair X is a great helmet. It is quite a bit quieter than the corsair V. I can't compare it to any other helmet, arai s fits my head better than other brands. The ventilation has been improved with this new version as well. Fit is the same as the last model. Although the shell seems to be a little larger. I wish that Arai made a larger selection of shields. I haven't crash tested the helmet yet but it makes me feel safe.

Saved my life
Me and my friend decided to switch bikes. I noticed while riding, that sometimes when downshifting, instead of slowing down the bike would accelerate and shoot forward. The throttle was intermittently sticking. Stupid me should've immediately given the bike back. Hundreds of hours on the track and classes were screaming at me to do so, but I ignored them. Unfortunately the third time The bike did this, I shot into a corner and didn't have enough space to complete the turn. I ended up riding the bike into a pile of boulders at 50 miles an hour. I never lost consciousness. The helmet worked perfect. I don't remember hitting my head on the Boulder, but the giant scrape and crack on the side would indicate that I did. This is the second time I've seen an Arai helmet survive hitting a boulder. I watched, a fellow rider, crash and hit his head into a boulder as well four years ago. He also never lost consciousness. That is when I decided to make a Arai my permanent brand. I'm really glad I did.

You live in your brain, your brain is in your skull. If you want to give yourself the chance to survive or even just remain being you, then you have to protect your skull with the best helmet possible. Arai is the safest helmet in the world. This is not just my opinion, it is a well-known fact that is supported by almost every motorcycle gear retailer and professional rider in the world.

The only question you need to ask, is whether or not your life is worth it. I suspect that your answer will be yes. I can tell you after the fact that it was the best $881 I ever spent.

Have used Arai since 1998 and waited too long to replace my RED RX7.
I wanted RED but had to settle for white.
You would think with all the racing colors and 2 different blacks a solid red would not be that hard to make.
As always I am sure the quality will be the best.

I'm considering this helmet over the Signet Q, but I like the other features of the Corsair X. I have a relatively upright sport touring bike and I do not ride on a track. With that said, how does this "race" helmet perform in an upright position? Concerns could be less ventilation, more noise, and buffeting. (a prior question referred to this as an everyday helmet, but doesn't account for one's regular position on different types of bikes). Thanks for any assistance.

BEST ANSWER: I have the 2014 corsairV TT ride with it on my hayabusa and bmw 1000r no probelm at all.
If my head size about 56.5cm what size should i take for the arai corsair x?
A shopper on Jan 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Corsair X seems to be a snug fit. For a 56.5, I'd go with a medium.
I have a new corsair v medium but it is just to small I bought extra shields. If I buy the x in a large can I use the shields from the v?
mike s on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, they are not. Arai changed the shield mounting system.
Are the shields between the x and v interchangeable?
mike s on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Definitely not. I have one of each (V and X). The X has a different shield attachment and release mechanism.
Is there any shell size difference between MD and LG?
Wonseok H on Jan 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, different size has different shell size too
Hi, Corsair V small size fits me great. I wonder if Corsair X has same sizing and shape as Corsair V?
Sanser O on May 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have the early version RX7 small fit great snug but not uncomfortable, add the IOM 2014 collection medium its a hair too big but overall still fit fine and is very comfortable, not the Corsair X I order the IOM small and it hurt to put it on and hurt even more to take it off.
May be is my head right between small and medium. but it seems to be narrower the side of the helmet was pinching my head, and the opening at the bottom is lot smaller.
The only issue I had with the Corsair V was my lips would touch the front of the helmet when leaning off and looking through the corner. Is the change in the Corsair X significant enough to alleviate that, or not that much?
Anthony U on May 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It still seems like the clearence between your face and the helmet is tight, however I think there is more room than the V
Can the Corsair X be worn comfortably as an everyday helmet?

BEST ANSWER: This is the most comfortable helmet I've owned!
Do these helmets come with the Air Wing?
