Arai Corsair X Helmet
In true Arai fashion, the Corsair-X Helmet has taken helmet technology and rider protection one step further by engineering a helmet that not only guards against direct impacts, but is specifically designed to minimize the effect of "glancing off" impacts as well. Arai has created a stronger shell and smoother shape that is more likely to redirect impact energy than absorb it (therefore decreasing the amount of force transferred to the body). To increase this potential to glance off impact energy, the VAS (Variable Axis System) side pod, pivot cover is smaller in size and its position on the shell is lower.
The Arai Corsair X Motorcycle Helmet features a chin curtain that helps to block air intrusion from the turbulent air underneath the helmet, as well as increases negative pressure to enhance the exhaust ventilation performance. The interior lining includes Arai's signature 5mm peel away ear pocket padding and ear pocket recess to accommodate communicator speakers.
VAS Shield System:
Normally the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, because a lower shield pivot will not allow the shield to open or close. The VAS (Variable Axis System) has a variable axis (moving pivot point). This allows shield opening and closing even with the 24mm lower shield mount position, compared to the Corsair V.
VAS Shield Latch System:
VAS shield latch system captures and holds the shield closed more securely to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to a de-mist position, the larger latch design allows for an intuitive and seamless operation of the shield.
PB SNC2 Shell:
The Corsair X helmet shell is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight.
Diffuser Type 12:
The Corsair X Type 12 air diffusers are longer than the Corsair V and are straightened for improved aerodynamics, working together with the AirWing to improve stability, and creating a 19% gain in efficiency. The air intake vents are extremely adjustable and have three positions (closed, half open and fully open) and create a tight seal to decrease wind noise and water intrusion.
Eco Pure Liner:
The fully removable interior liner system is made from Eco Pure material, which helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption, as well as a softer liner material and adjustable temple padding to allow for a customized fit.
VAS V MV Shield:
The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding and comes standard with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert.
Additional Features:
- VAS (Variable Axis System) shield and side pods are exclusive to the Arai Corsair X Helmet
- Dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal
- VAS shield latch system captures and holds the face shield closed and provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open
- VAS MAX Vision face shield provides excellent visibility in all seasons thanks to the included Pinlock insert
- Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat
- Cheek pads have the Emergency Release Tab feature
- IC Duct5 forehead vent provides 11% more airflow than the Corsair V, features 3 positions and is overall large and easy to operate with gloves
- PB SNC2 Shell has superb tensile strength due to a variety of carefully-positioned materials and light weight resin
- Arai's R75 shell shape creates a rounder, smoother helmet to enhance energy and impact dispersion
- Includes clear Pinlock insert
- Snell 2015 and DOT approved

Reviews & Questions
Keep this in mind regarding my fit comments, as there are normally some fit differences between markets for Arai. Japan market Arai helmets tend to be more snug for a given size on our 'murikan noggins, because, for example, a L Corsair-V in Japan is one full shell size smaller than a USA market L Corsair-V. Much better race fit for me, but YMMV.
For reference I have two Japan market Corsair-V's and two USA market Corsair-V's (from ZLA) and two previous Corsair-4's (also from ZLA) so I do have some experience here.
One thing I like about the new model is the replaceable chin vent- all my Corsair-V's except the latest one (October '14) have developed cracks in the chin vent frame. Sure, Arai would take care of you, but you would have to ship it off. Now it's a DIY fix if needed.
I've got about 4500 miles in my size L silver metallic RX7-X (which is sold as Corsair-X in the USA) on both a CBR600RR and a '14 Interceptor.
The main differences- Much quieter with the chin curtain. Much more room for nose and chin. Slightly taller viewport. Much more robust switches with notably more air flow. More positive action on the visor lock and deployment. Looser in the cheek pads. Maybe a tiny bit more buffeting in certain positions than the C-V- possibly due to the chin curtain effect on the aeros.
The new visor system is pretty good once you get used to it. I was able to change visors in just seconds on the old system, and this one actually takes longer, but you don't feel like you're scratching the heck out of your nice helmet paint doing it.
I've got two MAX vision visors in clear and dark smoke, and the flat tearoff-post equipped visor in dark smoke. The flat visor has perfect optics.
Naturally, you do have a border in the MAX vision versions for the Pinlock insert frame. The Pinlock insert is effective against fogging at well below zero F. The insert does produce some easy to ignore optical artifacts, especially when you have headlights coming your way. If you want the ultimate in clarity, and don't need anti-fogging as much, get yourself a flat visor. But the MAX vision visor is great for 95% of use.
The interior fabric is actually a bit more rough feeling than the predecessor. (I actually scratched my cheekbone taking it off while being fitted.) What I found is, the cheek pad has a "point" that you need to push out of the way with your thumb when removing the lid.
The new model is supposedly heavier. I don't know about that- it feels better balanced to me.
In conclusion, all the new features, such as the improved visor lock and switches, the more generous nose and chin space, and the overall fit and finish, make this a worthy successor to the Corsair-V.
And one more thing- I'm typing this thanks to my very first (08 Japan model) Corsair-V which most certainly saved me from serious injury/death in May 2014 when a cager decided to suddenly merge into me on a freeway ramp. I can't imagine riding with anything less.

You live in your brain, your brain is in your skull. If you want to give yourself the chance to survive or even just remain being you, then you have to protect your skull with the best helmet possible. Arai is the safest helmet in the world. This is not just my opinion, it is a well-known fact that is supported by almost every motorcycle gear retailer and professional rider in the world.
The only question you need to ask, is whether or not your life is worth it. I suspect that your answer will be yes. I can tell you after the fact that it was the best $881 I ever spent.

Per my head measurement I should have been in between a medium and a large. I went with a medium, which fits perfectly without having to tweak any of the adjustable interior padding. The air flow is absolutely wonderful on this helmet, and it is surprisingly quiet with most of the vents closed. It is an extremely comfortable helmet that I use for commuting and more aggressive riding.
I drive a 1290 Superduke with a seating position that can range from mostly upright, to a full tuck. I was worried about buffeting based on the race design of this helmet, but like I stated earlier, the adjustable rear wing takes care of most of that. The helmet is definitely best suited for the 3/4 or tuck, but does very well with a mostly upright position with the wing down. It also stays steady during head checks because of the shape of the helmet; unlike other helmets that are only aerodynamic when looking straight forward.
Again, it isn't a cheap helmet, but there are definitely more expensive helmets out there. The design looks simple and even a little boring compared to other stuff out there, but it is actually quite perfect. There is no feature of this helmet that is not put to use every time I put it on. I did a lot of research before buying this helmet and I have to say that everything I have read about this company seems to be true. Their attention to detail, and commitment to a quality product is obvious. I am fortunate enough to never have had the opportunity to test the safety of any of my street helmets (dirt is a different story), but wearing this helmet makes me feel confident that I am protecting my head the best that I possibly can.

May be is my head right between small and medium. but it seems to be narrower the side of the helmet was pinching my head, and the opening at the bottom is lot smaller.
