Took a while but I finally found the right jeans for my needs
I am pretty particular with my denim. I would not say that I am a true "denim head" but I do only buy high-end Japanese raw high-end jeans. I wouldn't say price is no object, but the average pair of jeans in that range start at $300.

That is important as it will help put my comments into perspective. I work in technology and usually wear slacks and jeans of Friday. However, many people wear jeans most days. These, or course, must be sharp enough to wear with a dress shirt or Polo and oxfords or loafers as it is a professional work environment. Obviously boot cut or baggy, sloppy looking denim is out. I tend to ride with over pants over my slacks but wanted a good pair of jeans to commute in.

I ordered about 12 pairs over the last few weeks trying to find something that I can live with but still offers decent protection. Everything from Alpinestars to Speed and Strength. I think the best looking from a denim quality was Dianese. Jeans were an attractive dark indigo and were stiff like a good pair of new jeans. However, protection was lacking with a tiny bit of Kevlar and very thin and small knee pads. Legs were a bit too slim as I am an athletic guy.

I tried three different sets of Speed and Strength because why not, they are only $100. The material is stretch which makes it look a bit fuzzy and not exactly office wear. However, the fit is where they don't work. Some were tight like yoga pants and they had so much stretch that if you bend over you will get plumbers crack. Other models were too loose and fit like Walmart jeans. Overall, the stretch in the jeans made me seriously doubt the ability to protect as the armor moves with any pressure on it. Overall, they did not fit well, looked cheap, and I do not think they offered enough protection.

Bull-It was similar to Speed and Strength and I would avoid any further attempts to make them work. They also had velcro on the inside that was scratching my legs no matter how much I tried to adjust it.

I like the Rev'It brand and really wanted the Philly II jeans to work. However, the flare at the bottom of the legs looked ridiculous and overall the jean was baggy. The jeans seemed well built but the denim did not look high end. Initially I ordered a second pair in 32 (vs the 34 that I had ordered) but I ended up canceling it as the more I thought about them, the less I liked them.

I finally got the Alpinestars Copper Out. They had half sizes--which was a plus as I usually wear 33 or 34 in US denim and 36 in Japanese denim. Initially, I ordered the 33. Great quality denim! These are stiff like a new pair of Iron Heart or Sugarcane jeans. I'm sure they are not 100% indigo dyed but who really cares. Great knee pads which are included. They are thicker and longer than some of the other pads received in other jeans but are not bulky. These are also the only pair that came with hip pads. The great feature on these is that you can remove the knee pads if you want to go on a long walk or if you are standing all day. I find them comfortable as is though. However, the 33 was great in the waist, but tight in the legs. I ended up exchanging for the 34 and although there is an extra inch in the waist, the rest of the jeans fit great and are comfortable and stylish.

It was a long process, but I'm glad that I finally found the Alpinestars Copper Out.

Great Jeans, slight upgrade makes them greater
SO - first and foremost - these jeans are great. They look like your normal jeans (cool normal, you know...like the cool kids are wearing these days), which is great. The armor in the knees is noticeable to some extent and walking around with them in makes for a little bit of awkwardness, but the fact that the front zipper is easily accessible is an awesome feature. The hip pads that come stock are...a joke! Ain't gonna save anyone's hips. I grabbed some force field armor, added some velcro and ¡whamo! - got myself super CE rated hip protection. All in, that's nearly 300 dollars on a pair of jeans and I honestly wish the kevlar was a little more extensive throughout, but compromises in safety for style are how it goes when you are looking outside leather. As far as riding jeans go, highly recommend.

Great riding jeans
The denim is thick and durable. Very little air flow through the jeans so very comfortable and cool weather conditions and still comfortable in hot weather situations. Love the fit. The legs are tapered and fairly narrow and will not fit over any bulky boots. Had mine hemmed with a slit at the bottom to allow wearing over the boot.

I wanted something fashionable but still protective. The Kevlar reinforcement in the seat area and knees seemed to offer more coverage than most jeans but still maintained a nice slim fit. There are more protective options out there but this was a minimal compromise to look good while going short distances.
