Three riders on Zero motorcycles broke the Guinness World Record for the longest ride on an electric motorcycle without recharging, and the best of the three now holds the new record at 271.2 miles.
As you can see in the video below, the three riders took off from France and rode overnight to minimize traffic or other disruptions that could reduce efficiency. The riders: Jenny Brookes, Sr. Global Brand Manager at Zero Motorcycles, riding a DSR/X; Louis Renaud, a Zero customer who was both an independent witness to the record attempt and a participant, riding his own stock SR/S; and Jelle Verstaen, riding a Zero DS in stock form but equipped with the optional Power Tank, which extends range. While all three riders surpassed the previous record of 193.053 miles, Verstaen went furthest of all, covering 271.2 miles.
The record-setting run, which was tracked by GPS and verified by Guinness World Records, took place entirely on public roads, staying on secondary roads to keep speeds lower. The group aimed for a cruising speed of about 32 mph on open roads but also passed through small towns and slower sections. Riders also took advantage of downhill sections for regeneration.

Verstaen continued on after the other two riders ran out of charge and stopped, but the last 62 miles he rode in pouring rain. The Zero DS Verstaen rode was in stock form but included the Power Tank, which is an option any Zero buyer can add. With the Power Tank, the batteries on the DS have a total capacity of 19.2 kWh. As sold without the Power Tank, the DS has an official city range rating of 155 miles, using the standard SAE J2982 rating procedure, so Verstaen definitely exceeded the norm.

Fast charging is also coming to Zero
Zero Motorcycles is celebrating its 20th year and the company's other news is that Level 3 fast charging is coming to Zero bikes in 2027. Until now, Zero models could be charged at Level 1 or, with accessories, Level 2. Adding Level 3 capability will mean owners can take advantage of public charging stations to recharge as fast as possible. The Level 3 capability will not only be available on new models, but owners of 2022 and later Zeroes will be able to retrofit their bikes with the Rapid Charge System, as Zero calls it.
More details on the Level 3 charging system will be announced later, according to Zero.
