Yamaha just unveiled their new Ténéré World Raid for Europe. This new model brings some upgrades to the Ténéré 700 adventurer that increase its range and off-road prowess, although the engine’s performance is unchanged, and the weight has increased to a claimed 485 pounds (wet) with the larger fuel capacity. Here are the essential details.
Yamaha hinted at a Ténéré World Raid with several concept appearances over the last few years. Common Tread was glad to see the standard T7 reach the U.S. market in late 2019 at $9,999. The base price crept up to $10,299 for 2022, but the Ténéré is still a price and performance benchmark for Japanese ADV motorcycles. Our man Spurgeon had good things to say about it in his first ride review. The World Raid variant brings more off-road edge for Ténéré 700 customers focused on dirt performance.
At a glance, the World Raid’s biggest change is the new dual-tank design that boosts fuel capacity to six gallons. For reference, the base model holds 4.2 gallons. Twin fuel caps give a rally-ready look, and there are several changes to the bodywork to accommodate the new tank arrangement, including a bigger windscreen and a revised seat extending much farther up the back of the tanks. Fuel is carried lower as a result of this design with large cutouts for the rider’s legs. Larger footrests may resolve one of Spurgeon’s main complaints with the standard Ténéré 700.
Suspension revisions add about three-quarters of an inch of travel to both ends, plus a slick new coating on the fork tubes. Öhlins supplies the World Raid’s new adjustable steering damper, and Yamaha updated the ABS settings to three modes: On, Rear Wheel Off and Fully Off. The barebones LCD dash of the standard model is swapped out for a fancy new TFT display with smartphone connectivity via the Yamaha MyRide app.
Of course, Yamaha added improved protective features for a finishing touch. Ténéré World Raid owners get improved engine and radiator guards, but how much are they paying for all these add-ons?
Neither U.S. pricing nor availability have been announced at this time. We reached out to Yamaha, who said the Ténéré World Raid is Europe-only for now.
Yamaha Europe lists the Ténéré World Raid at £11,600, which is roughly 20 percent more than the base model over there. That means this model should cost around $12,500 if it comes to our shores, placing the World Raid within striking distance of several other ADV options.
