The absurd decision to ban motorcycles with fairings from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has done nothing to slow them down. Chris Fillmore set a new motorcycle course record of 9:49.265 on a KTM 1290 Super Duke R in his rookie attempt at the mountain.
Go along for the record-setting ride in this video from KTM. What was interesting to me was that Fillmore, who has raced professionally in both roadracing and supermoto, uses techniques from both disciplines in his run up the 12.42-mile course. Sometimes he's knee down and sometimes he's foot out.
No question Fillmore was pushing. Twice in the last minute of the run I thought he was going to go off the pavement and tumble down a boulder field. Here's the video. As Spurgeon would say, enjoy the ride.
