Video: New King of the Mountain, Michael Dunlop, at the Isle of Man TT

Jun 13, 2024

If you weren't following the Isle of Man TT this year, it was one for the record books as Michael Dunlop surpassed the decades-old record of 26 career wins set by his uncle, Joey Dunlop.

Michael Dunlop broke the record with a win in the Metzeler Supertwin TT race one (highlights in the video below), his 27th victory on the mountain course. He went on to record two more wins the rest of the week to finish this year's event with a career mark of 29 victories.

After breaking the record, Dunlop had to contend with sketchy conditions in the Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 2, which was delayed by isolated showers and then shortened to two laps, but he maintained his dominance in the Supersport class with another win. He finished with his 29th win in the Entire Cover Insurance Supertwin TT Race 2, which was cut short by a red flag.

Nowhere are red flags more ominous than the IOM TT, but another pleasantly notable achievement this year was that, despite a few serious injuries, no racers died. It's the first time since 2012 without a fatality in the races.
