Bad motorcycle, or just bad for you?

Nov 23, 2019

Sometimes a bike is just fine. Not great, not awful, just… fine. Meh. OK.

You’d better believe that somebody somewhere loves that same bike. What’s the deal?

That’s what the Highside/Lowside guys are discussing in the latest episode. Are there bad motorcycles, or are some bikes just bad for you?

I’ve talked to riders who’ve been underwhelmed by all kinds of bikes, even beloved best-sellers like the Kawasaki KLR650, the Yamaha FZ/MT-07, the Honda Grom, the Harley-Davidson Sportster, and the Suzuki DR-Z400. That’s OK. Sometimes a motorcycle just doesn’t do it for ya. I can’t say any of those models are bad motorcycles. In fact, it’d be pretty hard to go wrong with any of them and many thousands of people happily own and ride them. And yet I don’t love any of them enough to own one, so take that for whatever it’s worth.

I’m not sure there’s a bike on the road I wouldn’t take for get-to-know-you ride. Doesn’t mean I have to think every one is good for me.
