2022 Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard first look

Oct 14, 2021

Ducati's latest Scrambler… is an overgrown supermoto for city hooligans? Let’s take a closer look.

Ducati is trickling out their 2022 releases throughout the fall season, and their latest introduction is the Scrambler Urban Motard.

The heart of the Urban Motard is Ducati’s standard-issue 803 cc desmo L-twin producing 73 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 48.5 foot-pounds of torque at 5,750 rpm. This should be plenty of pep for battling traffic and spinning tires in the bike’s intended environment. It’s worth noting that Scramblers are the last air-cooled L-twins in the entire Ducati lineup at this point.

Supermoto styling includes the requisite 17-inch spoked wheels, a flat seat, number plates, and a revised fender mounted up by the headlight. The graffiti-inspired graphics combine Ducati GP '19 Red with the edgy style seen on some Hypermotard variations and the Streetfighter V4 concept.

Tech includes all-LED lighting, optional Ducati Media System smartphone integration, and cornering ABS. (No word on disabling that for sumo activities.)

There's more to a motard than 17s and a high fender, right? Ducati photo.

Purists might take issue with a twin-cylindered street bike billed as a motard, as the essential supermoto recipe is a dirt bike with street tires. Considering how few factory sumos are available today, they’ll just have to deal with it. The weight of 432 pounds (claimed, curb) is downright tubby compared to singles from KTM, Suzuki, or Kawasaki.

The base Scrambler is no dirt bike, either, as Brandon confirmed earlier this year when he thrashed one within an inch of its life at the Get On! Adventure Festival in South Dakota. That said, the Urban Motard looks like a good time with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires fitted as standard. Maybe consider some engine protection before hopping curbs.

The Urban Motard was introduced in the video below, along with another new Scrambler model, the 1100 Tribute PRO, to mark 50 years of Ducati's air-cooled, twin-cylinder engines.

The Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard will reach U.S. dealerships in April 2022, starting at $11,695. It will cost CAD $13,295 in Canada. The Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO will cost $13,995 in the United States and $16,495 in Canada.
