Excellent DP front tire
These are the best 50/50 front that I have yet tried. I got ~12000 km's out of my first one, with a loaded bike in a true mix of hwy, back roads, and dirt/ rock/ sand. This matches what I am getting out of my rear tires (Heidi k60/ Mitas) so I can swap both at the same time. Where this tire really shines is in loose gravel and sand over hard pan (90% of the 'dirt' roads/ trails that I have encountered). The larger well spaced blocks seem to bite through and give traction where the K60 front tended to float and reduce confidence. Way better in sand as well. Acceptable on the hwy at normal speeds, not as loud as other knobbies I have tried (MT21's). Even at twice the price these would be my go- to tire.

Great gravel tire
I ran this tire on the front of my TR650 for the Swinging Bridges Ride in Missouri. Tons of gravel, lots of twisty pavement, and some off-program mud. The TR8 held solid for all of it, all in all it was a 950 mile weekend with 440 miles getting there and back at 75mph, with not much noticable tread wear. The traction was great through all of it, I aired down under 20psi for the offroad and gravel sections. I think this is a great match for dual sports that want a little more capability while keeping long life and good road manners.

Very underrated
I'm surprised I don't hear more about this tire. It offers great value and great grip. I used a new set of these on my street legal WR450F on a recent trip to Colorado. We rode everything from paved mountain roads to single track trails. Performance was excellent and wear was very good. I will be buying these again.

Great gripping front tire
I only ran this as my front tire for my DR650, I would've also run the rear but they don't make that size tire. It's use has been 70% off road / 30% on road, the rear tire was a D606.

The tire has gripped great in gravel, dirt, and sand. I have not tested it much in serious mud, the mud I have ridden in it did fine.

Another great point of the tire is that it gives tons of feedback, so when it does start to wash out you can catch it or be prepared for it.

At the price it is a great tire for dual sports. Road grip is fine and never gave me any issues, if you're hard on the front brakes you'll start to see some cupping but that's true for most knobbies.

Works for me
Difficult to give advice on tires, as there are many variables involved. But these are perfect for me:
>30 years experience, DR650, 60/40 dirt/street, gravel, rocks, mud, no single track, conservative rider.

Surprizingly Good!
I was needing DOT approved tires for a Dual Sport conversion I'm doing on an XR400.
These are very inexpensive. I bought the pair for less than a decent brand name Moto only rear tire!
I figured I'd put them on for the inspection, then put some "real" off road only tires back on afterwards.
I can tell you now that they work SO well on pavement!
Smooth and quiet, with great cornering traction and very decent traction for braking. And they mounted up super easy- popped up onto their beads easy and true, and they balanced with minimal weights added- really just the weight needed to compensate for the factory rimlock.
Made in Japan, to obviously high standards.
After my road ride I was thinking "well if these don't totally suck in the dirt I'm leaving them on!
Guess what? They are very decent off road too. Here in Missouri we have loamy soil with rocks- LOTS of rocks. And in my trails in the woods, lots of exposed roots too.
I am impressed with them in these conditions.
No chunking from the constant "spin in the dirt/hook up on the rock" traction challenges. Almost all tires chunk here. But so far, not these.
Due to the round profile of the tire and the lack of aggressive side knobs they do slide easier than aggressive off road only tires when turning, but they are predictable. And fun. I like them. A lot.
Take into account these facts:
XR 400's only make about 35 HP, and they are tuned to chug and lug nicely. They are lightweight at about 265 wet when compared to most Dual Sports.
And I am an Expert level rider. Your results may vary.
But I'm posting this review because I've been buying tires for Dirt Bikes that also see pavement for years, and these are the best I've ever ridden.
I'll buy another set when these are toast!
I don't know about treadlife yet, It's only been a couple hundred miles- but so far the wear is almost zero.
I'm betting on 2000 for the rear and double that for the front, based on how they look right now.
I hope IRC keeps producing these tires. They've been making them for years, but I've just discovered them!

Great 50/50 tire
I am using these tires on my KTM dual sport. Work great on the pavement and off road. Used a set of these on the COBDR last year, worked well in all conditions.

Great tire all around tire for my Tiger 800XC
On my second TR8 and I will continue to run them on the front. 90/10 mix of tarmac and off road. Knobbies instill confidence off-road and provide lots of grip on road. Getting around 11000KM per front.

DOT off road/dual purpose excellence
I chose this because of the deep knobs and the DOT rating. I have not used them much on the street and they were new and on wet pavement when I did. Very slippery on wet asphalt as expected. Will follow up after they have some miles on them. In the dirt, rocks, and thick mud they perform very well I am highly satisfied. I think they offer a good value for the price.
