Good summer mesh jacket but too expensive
I wrote this review specifically to help anyone that is looking for a summer-only mesh jacket. I always read product reviews and value those people who take the time to accurately represent what they experienced. I wanted a economical summer mesh jacket that would keep me cool and comfortable while providing crash protection. I ended up buying this one (Large), the Tourmaster Intake Air 4.0 (Medium), and the REv it Airwave (Large). For reference i am 6'-1", 180 lb. They all fit me great thanks to the Revzilla video sizing recommendations....however i ended up keeping the Rev it Airwave. The JR Phoenix was the worst: Cheap zippers, elbow & shoulder pads would not stay in place, inner lining was cheap not soft and would catch on my arms as i put on. The soft back pad caused the jacket to pull up on the front of my neck. Just had a weird fit. The TourMaster Intake Air was much better and almost kept it, but...the sleeves were a bit short, and it did not seem to be made as well as the Rev it. Looks like it would not last more than a season. Cheap zippers, cheap velcro on cuffs, loose forearms as many reviewers stated. The added removable liners are gimmicky at best. Too many snaps and probably not great protection from the elements. I keep a rain overcoat handy, which works better than any inner layer and easier to put on. The Revit Airwave however is much better. Fit is great, quality of materials top notch, YKK main zip, mesh feels tougher. All of the pads stay in place without adjustment. Not too tight or too loose. My only grip is with the neck strap, as other reviewers have said. Do you really need one that big for a summer mesh jacket? It feels like you're wearing a scarf. You can keep it un-snapped, but it's so thick that it doesn't fold back out of the way. The cuffs are a bit large and not as soft as some others but neither of these nitpicks were enough to sway me. The Airwave is probably the best summer jacket you can get under $200.

Very pleased and I'm fusssy!
Fit is true to size. I'm 62. 5'10" 210 wear XL shirts/ jackets normally. Ordered XL fits comfortably but not sloppy. I own other TourMaster gear in XL. I prefer jackets with a collar to help with chilly mornings and this one is very comfortable.
The rain liner is pretty easy to put in or take out. Never bother with the vest style thermo liner. It's a MESH jacket! If it gets that cold wear something else.

Only taken one multi-day trip with it so no opinion on durability but TourMaster usually holds up. Protection...it's a mesh jacket, not armor plate.

On the down side, if it's gonna rain, bring rain gear but the liner works fine for a quick spritz. The zipper should go to the top of the collar. It would keep the chill out better on the late ride home.

All in all, I like it a lot and I've been riding over forty years and I'm fussy.

Decent airflow while offering protection
Purchased primarily for airflow in warm/hot weather after reading user reviews of mesh jackets. Also have TM Flex jacket, but it is too warm for 85+ temps. I generally avoid 4-lane highways, so looking for airflow at 50-60MPH, and better protection than my t-shirt.

Have tested on a Goldwing a couple of times in 90+ temps, high humidity, 2+ hours ride on back roads, average speeds around 55MPH. Airflow is definitely much better than the Flex. Was comfortable while moving, tho quickly heated up in city traffic. I have not tested on a all-day ride or temps near 100 yet.

Too early to tell, but I suspect the Velcro wrist closures will fray a lot after a season of heavy use (as they have on my Flex). A cosmetic issue, but still functional.

Collar is very comfortable, doesn't chafe when turning head a lot on the twisties.

The rain liner is fine for a quick shower, or to block air on cooler mornings, but still need good rain gear. The zip-in vest is good for early mornings before it gets hot. Both the rain liner and vest are easy to zip in/out, with a couple of snaps in the sleeves for the rain liner.

I chose the hi-viz color. My only real complaint is the black trim. A more reflective white/silver/hi-viz trim would likely make the jacket cooler when the sun is beating down, particularly on the shoulders/forearms. And on a Goldwing, the fairing and trunk block most of the hi-viz, so more hi-viz on the sleeves would improve visibility.

Great Jacket, Poor Back Protection
I'm 6'-4" and 190, so I ordered this in Large-Tall and the sizing was great. It's a well-made jacket with a rain liner (that I'm not using) and a quilted torso liner (which I am). It's very comfortable, warm enough for riding in the 50s with the quilted liner, and has a pocket for my garage door opener. The big drawback is the back armor. The shoulder and elbow armor is CE-rated and just fine, but the back armor is just very thin, cheap-looking foam. The back armor is also a very odd shape for which there is no direct CE-rated replacement. I bought Forcefield back armor, turned it upside down (it's the opposite shape of Tourmaster's pocket) and cut a few edges to get it to fit. Now I also have good back armor but unfortunately doing this added $50 to the cost of my jacket.

Great jacket.
Excellent fit, very comfortable, attractive styling, good protection. Air flow is excellent. Although I ride behind a fairing, jacket is still comfortable up to about 85 degrees, and tolerable above that. With waterproof liner/insulated vest installed, good down into the low 50's. Below that, add another layer. Cannot comment about durability yet, but have had good experience with Tour Master products in the past.

Quality jacket for its purpose
I bought this jacket to carry along on tour with my standard all weather coat. It is very comfortable even in the heat and is well made. I wont use the removable rain liner as I think it is cumbersome to install and remove and the removable vest wont be used either. The only features I would change are the velcro zipper closure at the top of the jacket. It wont stay closed and it needs to be a snap. The velcro on the sleeve closures is also weak and should be upgraded or changed to snaps but since I need this for hot weather, that is no biggie. This is a quality built jacket that does its intended mission of keeping the rider cool in warm weather well. Dump the underperforming velcro and change to snaps and I would give this jacket an excellent rating.

Excellent for what a mesh jacket offers...
I've owned many mesh jackets, and have my own subjective criteria. That said, this is one of the most comfortable, and functional I've owned.
1st, I'm about 5'9"; 190lbs. 34-35" waist; 43-44" chest. I wear a large in everything, XL in European brands. In my Tour Master jackets (Flex 3, and Intake Air 4), I wear a medium, and it fits PERFECTLY. A little snug w/ both liners, but I never wear both liners any jacket.

It sports a tighter mesh than the Flex 3 (good thing) and it flows like it's air-conditioned. Just took it for its 1st ride. 82 degrees out, and overcast. It flowed air *so* well, I'd have thought it was in the mid-60's.

Nothing to snag, catch, or otherwise detract from enjoying the jacket. Very adjustable, with arm snaps, and waist velcro. Love the mandarin collar -- there *is* a collar, which I like, however, it's not imposing, nor does it get in the way, as on some other mesh offerings.

The pockets are large enough to fit my wallet and phone. Zippers are smooth and easy. The Velcro cinches on the cuffs *could* be longer. You'd have to have pencil thin wrists to use all the Velcro, but they do work, and I have thick wrists.

Back armor sucks. Tossed it first thing. I'll be adding a Force, probably.

I got mine in Black/Black, since my jackets last longer than my bikes (before swapping them), and the colors of my bikes change. I *used* to do all hi-viz, until I was rear ended, stopped at a light, on a clear sunny day. Realized it really didn't matter. The Phosite piping absolutely lights up when reflecting lights... Cagers will see *that* long before the hi-viz at night, and during the day, IMHO the hi-viz doesn't offer more protection.

All in all, great bang for the buck...

Miracle on a 94 Degree Day
Have become an adherent to ATGATT but dread leather on hot days. Was riding in NJ on a 94 degree day when I first tried my new Tour Master jacket. As soon as I started moving I actually felt like I had air conditioning. Was comfortable for my entire 4 hour ride.
One caveat. Drink plenty of fluids. The cooling effect is obviously from evaporation. I stopped for a cool drink a couple of times.

This jacket functions as advertised.
The fit is comfortable. Air flow is terrific even while riding slowly in traffic. The hi-vis coloring stands out to nearby traffic. The two ZO liners fold to a very small size for packing. The pockets are generously sized. The sleeve hems easily fit over my gloves. The overall styling is wonderful.

I recommend this product.

Well designed and engineered
This is my second Tourmaster jacket - my other is a 4 season.

Cut is more "European", which means that the fit will be cozy for anyone carrying extra pounds. I'm 6'3", 200Lbs and XL fits perfectly - absolutely spot on.

Mesh design is good, providing large panels through which air can flow freely. Textile framework which holds it all together also carries the armor. There's both a waterproof and thermal liner included - I haven't had a chance to try either yet.

Quality of construction is good throughout, and the design is thoughtful.

I had the 3.0, and I loved it. The 4.0 was a better fit, but I don't think it had as much air flow as the 3.0. I think the mesh is a little smaller on the 4.0. I still like the 4.0 better.

wanted a 3 season jacket that had a rain liner, living in florida you never leave the house without a jacket, as rain storms pop up at any time & you may be miles away from any kind of shelter.also wanted a jacket that could be comfortably worn during the summer that has decent protection & flows air well through it

I like the look and style. With a water-proof liner and the mesh, it should serve well in the hot summers in Northern Va.

I like the fit and quality of Tourmaster and when I decided on a mesh jacket for better cooling the Air Intake 4 was the best option for me.

I saw this jacket online then at a local dealer. It fit exactly as the size chart said it would. The local dealer did not have the color that I preferred. Actually, I was looking for the Intake 3.0 but the 4.0 has a tighter weave and the fit had a better cut or style.

I live in Maryland and riding in 90+ temps with a jacket is no fun at all, at least with the jacket I have now. Tourmaster has a bonafide track record and I'm hoping this is the ticket to protection in high temps. Also, the degree of reflectivity can be nothing but a plus!

Nice style and functionality. Looking primarily for a summer coat but like the versatility.

What replacement back protector would you guys recommend for this jacket? I'm eyeing the Icon D3O back protector right now for its bang-for-buck factor and D3O protection. Will that specific back protector in Men's size fit an XS Tourmaster Intake Air 4.0?

Just for reference, I'm 5'11", 153 lbs, and have a chest measurement of 36".

Thanks in advance everyone!

How does the Armor-Link compare to say Klim's Carbonite?

I have the Intake 3 and for me, the sleeves are long, the liner is a size too small and the jacket is a size too large. Did they change any of this with the new version?
sixty8fury on Jun 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have the new Intake 4 and the sleeves are still long. Not overly long, just an inch or so. Can't really say much about the overall sizing. I took out the rainproof liner and vest for my ride yesterday and the jacket did seem a little large. With the liner and vest in it seemed to just about right for me, leaving a little room if you want to wear a sweatshirt in the cold.
Can the thermal liner be put in the jacket without the waterproof layer ?
A shopper on Jun 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can, no problem. It goes in the same as the rain liner. If you put both in, the rain liner has to go in first and the thermal then attaches to it.
One thing to note is that the thermal liner is a vest, no sleeves. I didn't realize this until I got the jacket.
How do you wash it?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I use a mild liquid detergent and wash it in warm/cold water. If I dry it, I keep the temperature no higher than medium but find I can put it on a hanger out of the washer and it will be dry by the next day.
