Simpson Model 30 Bandit Helmet

The Simpson Model 30 Bandit Helmet is one of those rare helmets whose style has remained unchanged since its inception in the 1970's. The original M30 Bandit was popular with many varieties of motosport enthusiasts throughout its history, but this contemporary incarnation has been designed strictly for use on a Motorcycle. The Model 30 Bandit retains a DOT safety rating and a low overall weight at 3.0 lbs for the standard composite shell. This Bandit also offers tons of ventilation, and Simpson's Free Stop pivot system which allows the wearer to set the shield open at any angle.

Features:

  • Classic Simpson M30 styling
  • CoolMax lined fabric moves moisture away from your body, keeping you cool and comfortable
  • Free Stop pivot system allows the wearer to stop the shield at any angle
  • Two shell sizes XS-MD / LG-XL
  • DOT rated

Note: Only one set of cheek pads are included.

Overpriced for what you get
If you're buying this helmet its purely for the styling. It lacks so many features that come on most helmets its hard to justify the price. No removable liner, no quick detach shield, and barely any airflow. Once you get past the novelty of the look you are really left with an expensive helmet that doesn't offer much. I think the biggest PTA is swapping shields on the M30. I originally got a mirror shield to swap with the clear but it takes too long to swap, I rarely use it. The shields do tend to fog easily, so leaving it cracked while you ride is best. If you're going for just looks then this is your helmet. If you're looking for a helmet that offers more than just styling get something else.

Feels higher quality.. but that visor.
Feels high quality. Looks great, comfortable. Bag it comes with is nice. Fits about as correctly as a helmet could I think. My measurements seemed to be perfect for this (22 1/2 - M) and it feels like it.

Within 2 minutes of opening it, I was wiping some dust off the inside of the visor and my short recently cut fingernails somehow touched it and left an unremovable scratch. Seriously.. that makes me worry about the quality of the visor all together. I hardly touched it and there's a forever scratch on it from doing basically nothing.

Makes me sad after spending $400 on a helmet.

Nice helmet great look.
This helmet is awesome. Love the look. The fit is like Revzilla said - round. I went from a Bell RS to this helmet for the look. It's lighter and not much noisier. There isn't a whole lot of airflow over the head but the vents in the face shield seem to make up for it. The visibility is great too. If you have any doubts about your size ask the experts at Revzilla. They helped me pick the right size after I failed to make the right decision on my own.

Baddest looking helmet around
Let's be real. Most people buy this helmet because of the way it looks. I actually bought it because of the way it fits. It fits like someone took a mold of my dome and casted it into a helmet. I fully believe that a huge part of how safe your helmet is has to do with how it fits.

I was wearing a gringo s and tried on a buddies m30 because I always admired the way they looked but couldn't justify the price. When I first was placing it on my head I thought; no way this thing will fit it's too small. But then it kind of popped on my head and fit it like a glove. There are no gaps between my head and the protective layer of foam. Immediately I could tell the difference in quality between this and the Gringo.

I listed my Gringo on craigslist the next day and ordered the m30.

Now that I've ridden a bit with it these are my thoughts: fit is still amazing, super light, visor is crazy thick and seems like it would stop a bullet, visor is also stupid difficult to adjust (it's either too tight and you can barely move it or too loose and it flops around), vents a TON of air for what it is, doesn't have a retainer snap for excess chin strap (even the gringo has this), pretty dang loud over 60mph, my nose brushes against the chin bar occasionally.

I'll give it 4 stars because of the issues but I feel much more safe wearing it. A word of advice: if you don't have a round head I would still try it on if you can. I have a very ovalish shaped head and the street bandit and outlaw bandit fit like crap while the m30 fit perfectly. Not sure how that's possible but I'm glad I didn't listen to the advice that it was only for completely round heads.

Also; wore an XL in my gringo s and wear an XL in the m30.

Awesome looks, not built for speed
This is, by far, the most badass helmet I've seen. The looks are awesome - got the matte black -. The matte finish requires a little more caring, because it scratches easier than a gloss finish.
Air flow is excelent, the vents on the front provide great flow even with visor down on hot days. I usually wear it open with sun glasses. I don't have a big nose, but the tip of my nose rubs against the front just a little bit.
The sealing of the visor is Ok but not perfect, so rain may come in a little bit. Also you can feel spray from the front vents.
This helmet is great for city use, but anything above 60mph becomes too loud and you can feel the wind forcing the helmet up, and that becomes anoying for long highway rides.

Overall, amazing looks on this, specially for chopped or custom rides, seen some guys rock it w/o the visor and it looks great too. Great air flow. Very loud doing 60+. Somewhat on the narrow side but still comfortable (I'm medium oval... I think)

Standout Exceptional Helmet, Unique styling without sacrificing comfort and safety
The Simpson Bandit M30 is by far the most unique helmet I have owned. At first, I thought I was going to sacrifice comfort, fit and decent airflow for the cosmetic appeal of this helmet. But immediately after punching the throttle on the Rocket III, all my previous doubts disappeared in the wind. The helmet is cool, comfortable and I receive plenty of airflow from the vents on the front. (enough to rival a half or open face helmet.) I have outfitted mine with the Light Chrome shield against the Matte Black finish and the look is truly unique. Complements all around from everyone, especially the ones I get from the faces of cagers. I find it funny that with the chrome shield, they can now see their own mouths drop in the reflection!!! *Excuse the dirty helmet, I live in West Texas and the bugs and dirt are unforgiving.*

Great Helmet
I really like the M30. I own the Ghost Bandit as well and Simpson makes great helmets. Great Ventilation. I did notice that it runs a big larger than average. I usually wear a medium and my M30 is a small and it fits perfect.

excelente casco!!

Great helmet. Expensive, but great helmet
Looks great, feels great, smells great. Its pretty quiet. I went from always wearing an open face to this, so that might be why. Its expensive, but pretty rad.

Almost perfect
This is my first full-face helmet, previously I was using a half helmet, so my opinions on this are in comparison to half helmets, not other full-face helmets.

This helmet rules. I love the look (main reason for buying it). I expected a full-face to be much more... claustrophobic (for lack of better term) feeling. I chose a half helmet when I originally started riding because I wanted the openness and the wind and all that good stuff.

Fitting seems slightly large. I wear a medium, and the other helmets I've worn, the mediums are just a tiny bit tight on me, but this medium is absolutely perfect for me, so it must be a little bit bigger than other mediums.

Wind noise is fantastic on this. I can hear myself think and talk inside it. It also has great air flow. I haven't worn it during super hot weather yet, but around 80-82 degrees F it has been just fine in keeping my head cool and being able to breath with the shield closed.

So far I have only found 2 flaws with this helmet: Lack of a snap on the chinstrap to prevent it from flapping in the wind. And there's no built-in pockets or anything in the liner/padding for installing speakers. Looks like I'm going to have to use some double sided tape to get those in there, which shouldn't be a big deal.

I currently rock a HJC CL-17 XXXXL, I'm worried aobout sizing, I'm hopping that the fact that it's round, that it will fit my head (which I think might be on the roundish side) So will it fit better if your head is round?
Anthony A on May 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have issues with helments because I have a round head...but this helment fits fine. However if you have a big nose it may touch the chin bar! (seriously)

A shopper on Jun 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Its definetly on the louder side.
How is the airflow of this helmet comparing it with the Shoei GT-air?
A shopper on Sep 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I can't make any comparisons, but I really like the helmet. It's my first helmet. I've been riding in 90+° and about 65° (substantial rides, being 45 minutes to 2 hours from 35mph to 120mph). I ride a Buell xb12scg with extremely loud aftermarket exhaust. The noise level is moderate, and the air flow is decent. I have found that, on a hot day, I can crack the seal on the shield for some added venting. It looks absolutely badass, and fits pretty snug.
If I were to have a serious complaint, I would say that the shield shoukd have notches/detents to allow it to be positioned at different points (at least at full open). I understand the point of this helmet is the raw, bare bones styling, but I would really expect that from a well known manufacturer like Simpson, and for $400.
All-in-all, an awesome helmet!
Will glasses fit all right under this helmet?
A C on Aug 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes glasses will fit...but more importantly will your nose....mine lightly brushes the chin gaurd nose piece.
Is this model SNELL certified?
A shopper on May 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe so, it is not labeled SNELL inside or out. The Simpson Street Bandit is SNELL certified.
My head measures 53 cm. Which size would be the best fit?
NickyDoze on Jun 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 53 cm is 20.86 inches. You are in between. XS and small. If you wear anything to keep warm in cold days I would go with small. If you are riding in warm temps. Go with the XS. I hope that helps.
does a bluetooth communicator fits properly in this helmet?
A shopper on Mar 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have a sena and it fits with trouble, the check pads won't fit properly on the helmet once the comunicator it's installed. But it's not uncomfotable and it won't falla down or something.
Hi looking at the size chart it says I need a 2XL. But I don't see a 2XL being sold here for this model?
Codybrown on Oct 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You should be careful since this helmet is more round than most, for me the size chart would suggest a size XL, as is my Icon Variant. However this Simpson on XL runs a bit loose for me, size L is a better fit on my case, hope this helps.
I measured my head, came in at 56cm, am i best off going for the SM(54 to 56) or the MD(56 to 58)? Thanks
