Schuberth E1 Adventure Helmet

The Schuberth E1 Helmet offers adventure riders a modular helmet designed to perform when the ride leaves the pavement. The Schuberth design team developed the E1 in Schuberth’s proprietary aeroacoustics lab, resulting in a helmet optimized for both aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance. Schuberth’s Anti-Roll-Off System keeps the helmet in place, while the removable and washable inner lining allows riders to keep their helmet clean in between adventures.

One of the most innovative features is the fully articulating peak visor, which can be adjusted to three different positions independently from the face shield and chin bar. The E1 can be worn with both the faceshield and peak in place, or riders may opt to easily remove either piece for the ride. The E1 also features a closable air vent in the chin bar to ensure that riders get enough air as the ride intensifies, while a removable and washable filter will help clean the air in dirty and dusty conditions.

The E1 includes a built-in antenna for Schuberth’s SRC-System PRO. Utilizing the latest in Cardo communication technology, the Bluetooth® SRC-System serves as an intercom with other riders and can connect to a GPS unit, MP3 player or mobile phone for navigation, music listening or phone calls.

Features:

  • Interior liner has been designed with fewer seams and a more universal interior fit
  • Improved EPS with integrated antennas for SRC-System which improves radio and Bluetooth range
  • Micro-lock ratchet chin strap
  • Large reflective panels on neckroll
  • Improved faceshield ratchet mechanism
  • Integrated sun visor

Outer Shell:

The outer shell is offered in two helmet shell sizes and combines an aerodynamically optimal shape with excellent protection. It is manufactured using Schuberth's typical compression molding process and thus permits great stability and a low weight.

  • Shell material: S.T.R.O.N.G. fiber
  • Helmet shell technology from SCHUBERTH permits low weight
  • Glass fiber with a special resin added is compressed in a vacuum at high pressure to form a helmet shell which is exceptionally sturdy
  • Perfected aerodynamics for higher speeds
  • Upward lift = 0!
  • Directionally stable
  • No oscillatory tendency
  • No buffeting
  • Spoiler integrated into the helmet shell

SRC-System Ready:

The E1 is equipped to accommodate the SCHUBERTH SRC-System (sold separately). To guarantee ideal radio reception, the E1 is already equipped with two integrated antennas to boost FM and Bluetooth reception.

  • Optimum reception at all times
  • FM and Bluetooth antennas integrated into the helmet for optimum reception

EPS:

The EPS foam liner is modular in design to ensure optimal shock absorption. This complex segmentation guarantees enhanced force absorption and distribution.

  • Made of specially optimized EPS foam
  • Complex multizone foaming allows optimal shock absorption

Inner Lining:

A special inner lining of the E1 was developed according to Schuberth's  innovative Comfort Fit concept that ensures the helmet fits comfortably and securely in all situations. The combination of carefully selected COOLMAX and Thermocool materials, with the additional use of Interpower coatings, also make the inner lining a highly-effective moisture removal and cooling system.

  • COOLMAX pad system, completely removable and washable (hand wash, 30°C)
  • Optimized fit
  • Variable venting for effective ventilation
  • Adjustable for summer/winter
  • Allergen-free
  • Antibacterial
  • Removable comfort cheek and head band pads

Ventilation:

Thanks to the design of the vents, the supply of fresh air is increased by up to 60%. The combination of multipath channels in the EPS foam liner and the head/chin/mouth ventilation ensures that fresh air is distributed effectively over the entire head area.

A.R.O.S. and Neck Strap:

The Anti-Roll-Off System (A.R.O.S.) was especially developed by SCHUBERTH as a safety feature and is incorporated into every SCHUBERTH motorcycle helmet. It ensures that the helmet cannot roll off of the head when the chinstrap is closed and correctly adjusted:

  • The helmet cannot pivot off the head from behind
  • The risk of contact between the chin section of the helmet and the chin or throat of the rider is minimized due to the small angle of tilt
  • Reduces the chance of the helmet coming into contact with the chest as the result of an accident
  • Precise setting of the chinstrap length through adjustment on both sides
  • Micro-lock ratchet lock

Face Shield:

The EasyChange visor mechanism makes changing visors extremely quick and simple without the use of tools.

  • City position offers maximum ventilation while traveling at slower speeds
  • Pinlock visor prevents shield from fogging

One real test
Read all the reviews here and nothing but whiners. I just finished the New Mexico BDR (NMBDR) and spent the better part of a week and 2200 miles wearing the new E1. This is a great helmet with good solid features. Some say "The shield and bill won't be functional after a dusty ride". Let me tell you riding in a group through 102 Degree dusty mid June heat is a great test for dust and ventilation. There are two tabs in the liner that cover up the ventilation hole. A quick cut with a sharp knife and the flow was great. The visor and flip chin worked flawlessly even full of dirt and grime. It fits and feels just like my C3Pro and is as good or better quality. If your a Schuberth helmet fan then its the helmet for you.

Better than expected even with it’s heavy price tag.
Bought this sight-unseen for street riding and a planned trans-America trip next summer. I should say first that this is not a dirt helmet. If you are going to be riding in tight trails or in the woods, check out the Fox V4 helmet as it (at least feels like) is lighter and flows more are.

After one ride there are a few things that stick out for sure.

-The ratcheting strap is much easier to operate with gloved hands than the standard D ring strap. It adjusts quickly and, more importantly, comes off very easily. This was a pleasant surprise for sure.

-As far as my peripheral vision is concerned, the E1 did not impede my sight at all. While you do see the brow portion of the helmet and chin bar, it takes some effort to see the side of the sides. I previously wore the AGV EVO 8 dual sport helmet and the rage of vision is much wide.

-Also contrasting the AGV EVO 8 DS are the quality of the optics. Even with the pin lock shield installed, my vision was not distorted.

-Overall fit and finish is exceptional. My helmet is matte anthracite and the paint job is superb. The fabrics are very comfortable against the skin and the overall shape could not be any better.

-Noise level is shockingly low. I was on the road for 30 minutes yesterday with my AGV and earplugs. Between the wind and whatever noise I was making, my ears were ringing for quite some time. With the E1? Noise is no longer an issue. The neck roll, chin strap and neck curtain work together and seal the wind and noise out of the helmet. Amazing.

Great all around helmet.
Wore this helmet for 6 hours last weekend in 95 - 100 degree temps on the Colorado Front Range. Combination of slow riding on gravel roads as well as speeds up to 70. The venting must be okay since I had no issues with excessive heat. It's very easy to set the clear visor open to exactly the amount you want for airflow with multiple indents that hold the visor firmly. The sun visor would have to be removed for extended freeway miles if you're not behind a big faring since it does yank your head around if it's out in the full wind stream. The modular flip up is awesome at stop lights for a quick word with your riding buddies. Material and comfort are as good as any helmet I have ever worn. Fit is good even though I have more of a long oval head shape. The helmet feels heavier than the Arai xd4 if you're comparing with that helmet, but I didn't notice the weight while riding, only while moving my head around at home comparing the two. Definitely worth ordering to try on since you can return it for $7.95 shipping if it doesn't feel perfect for you. I went through 7 helmets trying to find the right one so I paid about $48 in return shipping, but trying at home is the only way you can wear the helmet long enough to really see if it's going to give you a headache on a long ride.

Finally a (Near) Purfect Helmet
Been wearing modular helmets in the $200 - $300 range for 100,00 miles or so. This is my first super premium helmet ever. The interior is PLUSH. The vents flow a ton of air. The upper chin vent is just perfect. It give your face a wonderful breeze and is excellent for de-fogging glasses. The duckbill is long enough and adjustable enough to be perfect for those times you find yourself riding straight into the setting sun. Also gives it kind of a "Masterchief" sorta feel, LOL. I've been riding the KLR lately so the helmet is in the slipstream. It is noisier than expected at highway speeds. The duckbill creates noise, catches turbulence and creates a down force that makes the helmet feel very heavy. Best to pop it off and stick it in a saddlebag for highway riding. The upper chin vent creates a roar when open. I also find the chin bar release button hard to find with gloves on. But I'm just being nit picky here, (except for the chin bar release, that's annoying me). Everything about this helmet is quality. Definitely with eating Ramon noddles for a month.

If you want the best, this is it!
The top of the food chain for the most quiet modular helmet in the market. I transitioned from a modular Japanese premium brand competitor helmet but the noise level from it is noticeable. For the E1, the padding around the ear and neck suppresses the wind noise more efficiently while maintaining comfort compared to the Japanese brand I used. The helmet is lightweight and the best thing I love about this helmet is that you can lift the screen visor with ease. Plenty plenty plenty of controllable air coming in and I can easily close it off. The vents does not affect wind noise which is awesome! With the visor open, wind noise is affected minimally thanks to the padding around the ear. Take note, around the ear! There is a slot for your earphones or helmet speakers which does not interfere with comfort. ALL IN ALL, I have the highest recommendations for this helmet if you have the money. If you want the best, this is it! I'd say invest in your gear since most motorcycle insurance will cover your gear in an event of a crash. Just make sure you have the receipts/invoice saved or readily available.

Met expectations, could use more air flow
Admittedly, I've only had the new helmet for a short while - so I may come back and add / edit this after more use. My previous helmet was a Arai Signet-Q XL. The Schuberth E1 XL is definitely tighter on my head - I think the Arai was probably more targeted at my long, narrow skull. That said, it is snug, but not overly tight.

The main reasons I wanted this helmet were:

1. Modular design - I live in Oregon, and in the spring my allergies are running wide open, so being able to flip the lid up at a stop to sneeze (or use a hankie on my nose) is nice. Nothing like a runny nose in a full face helmet that you can't take care of.

2. Integrated sun visor - Again, Oregon - ride 15 miles in any directions, and the weather changes. Being able to adjust sun visor on the fly is great. (The brim helps a lot at sunrise / sunset also)

Despite the massive air intake on the chin, I really don't feel like it is moving as much air as it should, especially on top and back. I think it would be better if I wasn't behind a windscreen, so the airflow had more force behind it. The other option I haven't tried yet is to remove the foam filter and see if that helps.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase - it definitely fits what I was hoping for as far as modular + sun visor (above) - but I don't rate it as "best thing ever"

Good, but could be great
The Schuberth E1 is a really good helmet.

I'm giving it three stars, I'd like to give it 3.5, but i can't, so I give it three.

Sizing for this was better than the C3 Pro. It fits tightly, but not painfully so.

Fit and finish is typical Schuberth. Very well done.

My biggest complaint is venting. It needs much more of it. Think Shoei Neotec.

IMO, I also wish they'd change the position of the sun visor lever. It gets in the way when you want to mount a bluetooth device. You can still do it, but it ends up being positioned further back than you'd like.

The BEST Helment I've worn.
Didn't want to spend the money for this high priced of a helmet, but work a little OT and had it to spare. When the helmet arrived, it was package well and protected. Upon the first donning of the helmet, it fit like a glove, all buttons and functions seem to be intuitive and workable with gloves on. The first ride was the real eye opener, I didn't need ear plugs and I had to turn the music down on my player. So this is by far the best helmet I've worn. I've worn street helmets and motocross, so I've worn a few in my time. I love this helmet and would recommend it if you have to money, you wont regret it.

Absolutly great!
Fits perfectly, super quite and looks great. A little difficult attaching the Sena 20s but with a little extra effort I was able to install it comfortably. The visor works great in the afternoon while heading into the sun but in the lowest position the shield doesn't open all the way but I got used to that. Overall great helmet, couldn't see wearing a different helmet again.

The Do It All Helmet
My first endeavor into a dual sport helmet was a Shoei Hornet purchased two years ago. A great helmet that has the best of both worlds. Goggles work well with it while retaining the shield. Viewing is panoramic. But I wanted something with more street options. A modular was a must. Once you use a modular well...its tough to go back.
The weight of the E1 isn't an issue for me but I did graduate from a Hornet.
One issue resounded by other viewers is the chin strap. At first I had issues until a few adjustments, that you will not find on other helmets, and it is now quite comfortable and easy to use with gloves on.
I think the ventilation is superb compared to my Shoei. I ride a BMW GS1200A and the factory windscreen moves a lot of air out of the way on its highest setting which can make the ventilation on the E1 seem mediocre but drop the windscreen to its lowest setting with all the E1 vents open and yes, it vents better than the Shoei except it doesn't pull the air out at the neck like the Shoei which is understandable when talking about blocking wind noise.
More ventilation equals more noise and much of that noise comes from the air passing underneath the helmet.
The E1 fits snug around my neck and I believe it is important to choose the right size in order to avoid wind noise.
When the windscreen on the GS is at its highest and all vents are closed on the E1 the wind noise is like riding in a car with the windows up. Truly impressive.
With all vents open and the windscreen on its lowest setting the helmet is still more quite than my Shoei but not as quite as I expected. It is important to note my expectations were very high.
The peak and shield are easier to remove and replace than any helmet I've owned. This is important because in order to wear a pair of goggles you really need to remove the shield. And with enough practice can be done while still wearing the helmet although not necessary.
The peak works as expected and one of two features that places this helmet in a dual sport category. The other being the chin vent which is not found on the C3 pro. It also works well as long as my windscreen is at its lowest.
This is my first foray into a helmet with a built in sun-visor. Truly a must if your riding at all times of the day.
My one complaint is the peak will oscillate at certain speeds with my windscreen at a certain level. The easy fix is to remove it and use the internal sun-visor.
It is all around the best helmet I've ever owned.

I like the idea of going out and having fun but also giving myself the best chance to come back in one piece or at least with my brain intact, go for the best safety equipment you can afford and use it.

Fit and quality...second to none
Nathan M on Jun 20, 2017
I wear a C3 now and really like the quality, fit and finish of the Schuberth. I like the added ventilation and the sun protection of the E1.
William S on May 31, 2017
I tried one on,need a helmet,so after I saw the buying options I thought this was the way to go!
Donn S on Apr 28, 2017
Looking for modular with the option to go off road. 9 out of every 10 miles wearing this will be on pavement so the lid will be coming off, but it's nice to be able to pop it back on if need be. Just not an option with the C3.

Looked like a quality helmet and the options appear great. Good reviews. I'll see if I'm right.

I love my Schuberth C3, so there was no question when it came to an ADV Bike helmet.
Randall M on Apr 14, 2017

christopher m on Apr 10, 2017
Great combination of features, used on the street not offroad; price is a little steep

Very quiet at highway speeds. No earplugs needed.

Past experience with Schuberth. The quietest and safest modular on the market

It's my head after all.

Eyeglass wareer easier, talking to someone, drop down sun visor , the peek it's like wearing a ball cap on those sunny days wish my other helmet had it. Quality product and features.
Martin W on Jun 28, 2016
Overall features. Looks well thought out. We shall see.
David M on Jun 9, 2016
Had a C1 when they first came out, best helmet I ever had. Will use this for touring on my Harley, wanted the peak for sun shade as I've a minor cataract and the glare is not easy to deal with even with the tinted interior visor.
Eric L on Jun 4, 2016
Because it is a modular helmet with a visor
Joe G on May 27, 2016
I'm hoping this is the answer to a quite ride, hot temp venting, plus the ability to full open the face shield to talk to someone.

What is the weight of the E1?
Alex A on Feb 20, 2017
is the FIT exactly like the C3 Pro or did they change it at all?
motech on Jan 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From what I was told this weekend the E1 is the same as the C3 Pro. They only difference is the visor and the chin vent.
Will the BMW communication system fit into this helmet or does it have to have the SRC system?
gasdriller on Jan 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I added a Sena 10U that is meant for the C3 Pro and it fits well.
I already own a Sena s20 so would it work with the E1 or does it have to be the Schuberth SRC-System?
A shopper on Feb 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have the S20 mounted on my C3 using the adhesive mount and it works great. I also have the Schuberth system which is very nice since it is integrated into the collar. But, I ended up going back to the S20 due to its better features.
Looks like all these coms work, so any opinions as to which one to go with for the E1? Schuberth communication system, a Sena 20S, or a Sena 10u originally made for a C3Pro?
A C on Apr 26, 2017
I have the SR1 and think the venting on it is meh pretty good. Can anyone say how the E1 vents compared to the SR1(I know they're completely different)? Where I live it gets HOTTTTT so venting is top, beyond noise and such. I keep reading about how the E1 doesn't have top exhaust rear vents and this hinders the air flow to the top of the head(I understand the chin and face venting is on point). Thank you all for the time. Ride Safe!
Keoni F on Aug 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: E 1 vents more. I have the SR 1 as well but it is due to the chin vent on the E 1
Is graphics the only difference between the e1 helmet variants?
Timothy P on Sep 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, color/graphics and finish (matte/gloss) are the only difference. FYI, I just bought the solid black gloss version and it has a pretty big Schuberth logo on the back that is not shown in the pictures. It is reflective and a cutout type sticker that I guess could be peeled off.
Can you remove the shield and use goggles?
Andrew H on Jun 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes you can
Is the sizing for the E1 the same as for the C3?
A shopper on May 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I never used a C3 but the fit of the E1 was great since I was looking for 3 x.
The Arai Signet-Q fits my egg-head well. Is the E-1 equally oval shaped?
