Schuberth E1 Adventure Helmet

The Schuberth E1 Helmet offers adventure riders a modular helmet designed to perform when the ride leaves the pavement. The Schuberth design team developed the E1 in Schuberth’s proprietary aeroacoustics lab, resulting in a helmet optimized for both aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance. Schuberth’s Anti-Roll-Off System keeps the helmet in place, while the removable and washable inner lining allows riders to keep their helmet clean in between adventures.

One of the most innovative features is the fully articulating peak visor, which can be adjusted to three different positions independently from the face shield and chin bar. The E1 can be worn with both the face shield and peak in place, or riders may opt to easily remove either piece for the ride. The E1 also features a closable air vent in the chin bar to ensure that riders get enough air as the ride intensifies, while a removable and washable filter will help clean the air in dirty and dusty conditions.

The E1 includes a built-in antenna for Schuberth’s SRC-System PRO. Utilizing the latest in Cardo communication technology, the Bluetooth SRC-System serves as an intercom with other riders and can connect to a GPS unit, MP3 player or mobile phone for navigation, music listening or phone calls.

Features:

  • Interior liner has been designed with fewer seams and a more universal interior fit
  • Improved EPS with integrated antennas for SRC-System which improves radio and Bluetooth range
  • Micro-lock ratchet chin strap
  • Large reflective panels on neckroll
  • Improved face shield ratchet mechanism
  • Integrated sun visor

Outer Shell:

The outer shell is offered in two helmet shell sizes and combines an aerodynamically optimal shape with excellent protection. It is manufactured using Schuberth's typical compression molding process and thus permits great stability and a low weight.

  • Shell material: S.T.R.O.N.G. fiber
  • Helmet shell technology from SCHUBERTH permits low weight
  • Glass fiber with a special resin added is compressed in a vacuum at high pressure to form a helmet shell which is exceptionally sturdy
  • Perfected aerodynamics for higher speeds
  • Upward lift = 0!
  • Directionally stable
  • No oscillatory tendency
  • No buffeting
  • Spoiler integrated into the helmet shell

SRC-System Ready:

The E1 is equipped to accommodate the SCHUBERTH SRC-System (sold separately). To guarantee ideal radio reception, the E1 is already equipped with two integrated antennas to boost FM and Bluetooth reception.

  • Optimum reception at all times
  • FM and Bluetooth antennas integrated into the helmet for optimum reception

EPS:

The EPS foam liner is modular in design to ensure optimal shock absorption. This complex segmentation guarantees enhanced force absorption and distribution.

  • Made of specially optimized EPS foam
  • Complex multizone foaming allows optimal shock absorption

Inner Lining:

A special inner lining of the E1 was developed according to Schuberth's  innovative Comfort Fit concept that ensures the helmet fits comfortably and securely in all situations. The combination of carefully selected COOLMAX and Thermocool materials, with the additional use of Interpower coatings, also make the inner lining a highly-effective moisture removal and cooling system.

  • COOLMAX pad system, completely removable and washable (hand wash, 30°C)
  • Optimized fit
  • Variable venting for effective ventilation
  • Adjustable for summer/winter
  • Allergen-free
  • Antibacterial
  • Removable comfort cheek and head band pads

Ventilation:

Thanks to the design of the vents, the supply of fresh air is increased by up to 60%. The combination of multipath channels in the EPS foam liner and the head/chin/mouth ventilation ensures that fresh air is distributed effectively over the entire head area.

A.R.O.S. and Neck Strap:

The Anti-Roll-Off System (A.R.O.S.) was especially developed by SCHUBERTH as a safety feature and is incorporated into every SCHUBERTH motorcycle helmet. It ensures that the helmet cannot roll off of the head when the chinstrap is closed and correctly adjusted:

  • The helmet cannot pivot off the head from behind
  • The risk of contact between the chin section of the helmet and the chin or throat of the rider is minimized due to the small angle of tilt
  • Reduces the chance of the helmet coming into contact with the chest as the result of an accident
  • Precise setting of the chinstrap length through adjustment on both sides
  • Micro-lock ratchet lock

Face Shield:

The EasyChange visor mechanism makes changing face shields extremely quick and simple without the use of tools.

  • City position offers maximum ventilation while traveling at slower speeds
  • Pinlock prevents shield from fogging

Safety Certification:

  • DOT (as of Spring 2018, Schuberth USA is no longer importing ECE rated E1 Helmets)
Shape: Intermediate Oval

Swing and a miss
I should have paid more attention to the reviews. The roost guard on this helmet is a joke, a dangerous joke. With the roost guard installed, the entire helmet vibrated so much that my vision was blurred. It is more like a novelty hat from Disney world. After removing the peak everything was fine. Same quality I expect from schuberth. Comfort, noise dampening and field of view are above par. I cannot believe schuberth placed this in an air tunnel and it passed quality
control with the peak installed. If so the inspector should be
tarred and feathered. Best to save your money for now and wait for the C4.

The Do It All Helmet
My first endeavor into a dual sport helmet was a Shoei Hornet purchased two years ago. A great helmet that has the best of both worlds. Goggles work well with it while retaining the shield. Viewing is panoramic. But I wanted something with more street options. A modular was a must. Once you use a modular well...its tough to go back.
The weight of the E1 isn't an issue for me but I did graduate from a Hornet.
One issue resounded by other viewers is the chin strap. At first I had issues until a few adjustments, that you will not find on other helmets, and it is now quite comfortable and easy to use with gloves on.
I think the ventilation is superb compared to my Shoei. I ride a BMW GS1200A and the factory windscreen moves a lot of air out of the way on its highest setting which can make the ventilation on the E1 seem mediocre but drop the windscreen to its lowest setting with all the E1 vents open and yes, it vents better than the Shoei except it doesn't pull the air out at the neck like the Shoei which is understandable when talking about blocking wind noise.
More ventilation equals more noise and much of that noise comes from the air passing underneath the helmet.
The E1 fits snug around my neck and I believe it is important to choose the right size in order to avoid wind noise.
When the windscreen on the GS is at its highest and all vents are closed on the E1 the wind noise is like riding in a car with the windows up. Truly impressive.
With all vents open and the windscreen on its lowest setting the helmet is still more quite than my Shoei but not as quite as I expected. It is important to note my expectations were very high.
The peak and shield are easier to remove and replace than any helmet I've owned. This is important because in order to wear a pair of goggles you really need to remove the shield. And with enough practice can be done while still wearing the helmet although not necessary.
The peak works as expected and one of two features that places this helmet in a dual sport category. The other being the chin vent which is not found on the C3 pro. It also works well as long as my windscreen is at its lowest.
This is my first foray into a helmet with a built in sun-visor. Truly a must if your riding at all times of the day.
My one complaint is the peak will oscillate at certain speeds with my windscreen at a certain level. The easy fix is to remove it and use the internal sun-visor.
It is all around the best helmet I've ever owned.

What I expected. Differences are noticable.
It's nice when you can notice the differences between the helmet that you are upgrading from and the one that you dropped big $'s on. This helmet is a huge improvement over the HJC that I was using. Lower noise levels and the improved ventilation is obvious. No buyers remorse.

Not Worth the Hype
I have the C3 Pro - the SRC system is absolute garbage and you must go to a GERMAN website to get flash updates - so how's your German? My S7 edge Android phone never drops a bluetooth connection with head phones, other helmets, laptops, other devices - but CHRONICALLY drops the connection to this POS SRC system. Customer service is only 8 - 5pm EST - Mon - Friday, so if you need assistance, you have to take time off from work to get help - AND they will never call you back - EVER. The clear face shield is $90. Think about it, one 9th of the cost of the entire helmet towards any replacement shield. There is absolutely NO ventilation with this helmet. Note the intakes on the front of the helmet - notice any exit vents? Enough said. There are 2 small hole vents on the inside towards the back, but they're covered with flaps on the internal lining. Even if you cut them off, there's no improvement in air flow. You can feel the air initially go into the helmet up front, but once the air is in the helmet, it can't escape and the helmet becomes an oven. You sweat yourself to death in this helmet. Liner will eventually get slick with funk, luckily this liner can be completely removed, washed and is relatively easy to re-install if you pay attention while taking it out.

Schuberth Helmet
Exceptional light weight helmet that is very quiet. Modular in design with ease in raising front of helmet. Well designed as hood comes back into set position with front of helmet lowered. Weight of helmet translates into less fatigue on long trips.

I was expecting a lot more
I was expecting a lot more based on the Schuberth reputation and price! My last three helmets have been Nolan N104 modulars. When it was time to replace my last one, I liked the look of the new Schuberth E1... I ride a BMW 1200GS and do a fair bit of off road, so it was a good option, but twice the price of the Nolan.
The fit was great, I wear a large in the Nolan, and the large in the Schuberth was snug, but has relaxed nicely in a few weeks to a good comfortable fit.
I was surprised to find the E1 heavier than the N104, and even more surprised to find it noisier... I thought it was the peak, but it's even noisier without the peak attached.
I like the functionality of the E1... the peak wobbles a little at speed, but not more than you'd expect. Visibility is great, and the internal visor is great. I love the micro ratchet strap and the pinlok, all features that are also present on the Nolan. The detent on the face shield is better than the Nolan, and stays where you put it much better. The one feature I hate about the E1 is the detent on the modular system... I know Schuberth have a label saying don't ride with the helmet open, but everyone does under some conditions, and I have had the chin bar drop down in front of my eyes (and stay there) on several occasions... it needs to lock open much more positively than it does! The Nolan actually has a locking device, which it helpful offroad... you don't want to be going over whoops and have the chin bar drop down and totally obscure your view! Finally, the latch to unlock and open the chin bar is small and fiddly, and can be difficult to locate and operate.
I fitted the Sena 10U rather than the Schuberth comms unit, and very happy with it, though one of the line clips is impossible to close due to the extra interference of the brachet on the Sena antenna... but not the fault of Schuberth.
In summary, the E1 is a nice helmet, and I like the Adventure feature it adds to the mix. The lack of more positive latching in the open position is downright dangerous in my opinion, and compared to the N104's that I have always been happy with, it's heavier and noisier, and I don't think it's really worth twice the price.

Great all around helmet.
Wore this helmet for 6 hours last weekend in 95 - 100 degree temps on the Colorado Front Range. Combination of slow riding on gravel roads as well as speeds up to 70. The venting must be okay since I had no issues with excessive heat. It's very easy to set the clear visor open to exactly the amount you want for airflow with multiple indents that hold the visor firmly. The sun visor would have to be removed for extended freeway miles if you're not behind a big faring since it does yank your head around if it's out in the full wind stream. The modular flip up is awesome at stop lights for a quick word with your riding buddies. Material and comfort are as good as any helmet I have ever worn. Fit is good even though I have more of a long oval head shape. The helmet feels heavier than the Arai xd4 if you're comparing with that helmet, but I didn't notice the weight while riding, only while moving my head around at home comparing the two. Definitely worth ordering to try on since you can return it for $7.95 shipping if it doesn't feel perfect for you. I went through 7 helmets trying to find the right one so I paid about $48 in return shipping, but trying at home is the only way you can wear the helmet long enough to really see if it's going to give you a headache on a long ride.

Absolutly great!
Fits perfectly, super quite and looks great. A little difficult attaching the Sena 20s but with a little extra effort I was able to install it comfortably. The visor works great in the afternoon while heading into the sun but in the lowest position the shield doesn't open all the way but I got used to that. Overall great helmet, couldn't see wearing a different helmet again.

Finally a (Near) Purfect Helmet
Been wearing modular helmets in the $200 - $300 range for 100,00 miles or so. This is my first super premium helmet ever. The interior is PLUSH. The vents flow a ton of air. The upper chin vent is just perfect. It give your face a wonderful breeze and is excellent for de-fogging glasses. The duckbill is long enough and adjustable enough to be perfect for those times you find yourself riding straight into the setting sun. Also gives it kind of a "Masterchief" sorta feel, LOL. I've been riding the KLR lately so the helmet is in the slipstream. It is noisier than expected at highway speeds. The duckbill creates noise, catches turbulence and creates a down force that makes the helmet feel very heavy. Best to pop it off and stick it in a saddlebag for highway riding. The upper chin vent creates a roar when open. I also find the chin bar release button hard to find with gloves on. But I'm just being nit picky here, (except for the chin bar release, that's annoying me). Everything about this helmet is quality. Definitely with eating Ramon noddles for a month.

Looking for modular with the option to go off road. 9 out of every 10 miles wearing this will be on pavement so the lid will be coming off, but it's nice to be able to pop it back on if need be. Just not an option with the C3.

BEST ANSWER: I have the S20 mounted on my C3 using the adhesive mount and it works great. I also have the Schuberth system which is very nice since it is integrated into the collar. But, I ended up going back to the S20 due to its better features.
Looks like all these coms work, so any opinions as to which one to go with for the E1? Schuberth communication system, a Sena 20S, or a Sena 10u originally made for a C3Pro?

I have the SR1 and think the venting on it is meh pretty good. Can anyone say how the E1 vents compared to the SR1(I know they're completely different)? Where I live it gets HOTTTTT so venting is top, beyond noise and such. I keep reading about how the E1 doesn't have top exhaust rear vents and this hinders the air flow to the top of the head(I understand the chin and face venting is on point). Thank you all for the time. Ride Safe!

BEST ANSWER: E 1 vents more. I have the SR 1 as well but it is due to the chin vent on the E 1
Is graphics the only difference between the e1 helmet variants?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, color/graphics and finish (matte/gloss) are the only difference. FYI, I just bought the solid black gloss version and it has a pretty big Schuberth logo on the back that is not shown in the pictures. It is reflective and a cutout type sticker that I guess could be peeled off.
Can you remove the shield and use goggles?

BEST ANSWER: I never used a C3 but the fit of the E1 was great since I was looking for 3 x.
