Schuberth Did Not Disappoint
I've had this helmet for two months and spent around 1500 miles in it and I absolutely love it. It was time to retire my old Shoei so I held out for the C4 and I'm glad I did.

The overall comfort level is fantastic. At the end of a long ride, I can say the one thing that didn't bother me the entire trip was this helmet. The materials are soft and the padding is in all the right places and it just let's you forget the helmet is there. It's light enough that my head and neck aren't ever fatigued.

Ventilation and airflow from the vents on top of the helmet are impressive. Sliding the vent open, you immediately begin to feel the air moving around inside the helmet. To me, the front vent seems to work in conjunction with the top vent. When the top vent is open, air is drawn in through the front vent and flows nicely over my face and shield. If the front vent is open but the top is closed, air doesn't flow as well as the vent isn't designed to have a ram air effect.

The sun visor has been great and is easily operated with my gloved hand. For me, it leaves just enough of a gap between the bottom of the visor and the helmet to clearly see my gauges without looking through the visor. The visor does have a tendency to fog over in the right conditions. A quick lift of the visor clears that up.

In addition to the helmet, I purchased the SC1 Advanced comm system. At first I had some reservations about my gloved fingers being able to find the two buttons used to operate the system. It turns out that using my thumb to press the buttons is fairly easy and I can feel a solid click when I've depressed one. The hardest part is remembering how to operate every available feature from only two buttons. Battery life has been excellent. I've yet to run out of battery after riding all day. The speakers are great and listening to music while eating up miles is big plus. FM reception is okay but not great. It's not as good being in your car but I can definitely grab the more powerful stations around and fading in and out is at a minimum. Pairing with a phone and/or GPS is simple and I've had excellent feedback from folks I've spoken with on the phone while riding. Everyone is amazed at the clarity and very surprised when I tell them I'm on my motorcycle. They assume I'm in my car based on the small amount of noise they pick up in the background.

For sizing, I was at the high end of the range for a Large but had to go with an XL so they tend to run just a bit on the small side.

This is definitely German engineering at it's finest and I have no regrets about purchasing this helmet. Oh and BTW, the new helmet smell is amazing. I'll be disappointed what that completely fades away.

Buy the C3 Pro While you still can!
I am extremely disappointed with this helmet. If anyone has never had a modular helmet or is comparing to an entry level modular than this is going to be a great helmet, however if you are comparing with the C3 PRO or even the Shoei Neotech then I would pass on this helmet! First of all in a world with so many head shapes and sizes a lot of helmet companies have 3 or 4 and some with even 5 shell sizes to allow a better and more comfortable fit. Schuberth still only uses 2 shell sizes and even took a step backward with this helmet and made basically one shell size for the entire run. What I mean by this is Size XXXS-S share a shell and sizes M-XXXL. Which means if you are wearing a medium you are wearing and XXXL. I wear a medium so when I tried it on it was so big and bulky and just looked so goofy! It was bigger than a C3 Pro XL when put side by side. They have made some improvements with venting which is nice, but its heavier and louder than the C3 Pro. They also removed all branding from the front of the helmet which for me made it very ugly and boring and took away from visibility, but that is a personal opinion. The one good thing I liked didn't even have to do with the helmet but the communication system that went with it. They chose Sena brand and I am very happy with the quality of the system. Overall I ended up buying another C3 pro because it is still a way better helmet.

Excellent quality, fit, finish. Very comfy
Just got the Schuberth C4. Previous helmet was a C3. The C3 had about 5 years, and 100,000 miles on it, so due to the time-frame, it was time for new. The old one was never "down" or dropped.

I have a very large dome. My C3 was a size 63 (XXL), so that's what I ordered from Revzilla. I had read that the sizing is consistent, so I wasn't worried about trying on.

I believe that there is an advantage to on-line, especially with helmets, if you "know" your size. When I would previously buy helmets, I'd wear them at the dealer for at least 45 minutes, to determine if any hot spots would develop. Ordering on-line allows you to wear them even longer - just don't remove ANY stickers, or ride with it, and you can return it. I watched TV for a couple hours, took it off, came back later and watched a couple more hours. I had the helmet on for four hours before deciding that the fit was excellent (your comfort level/time-frame may vary).

Notes on fitment:
* They have indeed made the helmet a little more "oval". By elongating slightly, they have eliminated the forehead pressure point I had initially with my C3 (which I solved by using the "heavy spoon" method).

* The cheek pads are tighter than the C3, at least out of the box. I have had the helmet on for 8 hours total now (after a four hour ride), and they are "conforming to my chubby cherub-like cheeks".

* I find the comfort to be superior to the C3. This is the most comfortable helmet I have ever owned. This is due to the quality and SHAPE though - everyone's head is different, find a helmet that's right for you! See notes above regarding wearing it for a couple hours...

*Ventilation: VAST improvement. The larger top air vent flows very well. Chin is improved as well, with easy open/close.

Notes on quality of materials:
* The fit, finish, and quality of materials is superior to the C3, and other brands, IMO.

* While the same size for me (XXL) as the C3, the shell of the helmet is smaller (I've seen others claim otherwise - they are simply incorrect). The C3 weighs in at 1709 grams, the C4 at 1890 grams (XXL); without comms. Odd that somehow it weighs slightly more, with a smaller shell (I'm guessing that the pre-installed speakers, antenna, mic makes this up)... Holding both helmets, each with the Comm System installed (old BMW System on C3, SC1 on C4), I can't really tell a difference in weight.

Is it quiet?
* Yes, more quiet than the C3. Not a massive difference, but the difference is noticeable. Prior to the C4, the C3 was the quietest helmet I'd owned.

How's the SC1 Comm System?
* The installation of the SC1 literally takes 1 minute. Helmet is already pre-wired for speakers, mic, and BT/radio antennae. I got the SC1 Standard. The SC1 Advanced adds extended battery (an extra hour according to some, more according to others), extended group intercom range, FM radio, and "music share" (for instance, with your Pillion). The Standard Battery will last 9 hours, group intercom goes about a half mile, I don't care about FM radio.

Sound quality (music) is better than the BMW Comm System that I had in the C3. Much louder too. Call quality is "OK" (how they hear you); I spoke to my wife via cell phone, and she said sound was a little different than the BMW Comm, but fine. Note that the C4 mic is built into the brow area; no boom mic. I can't comment how this would work for intercom, as I have not tried that.

If your pillion (like mine) has a C3 with the BMW Comm System, you will not be able to communicate via intercom. Not compatible.

As mentioned, the speakers come pre-installed. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU ADJUST THEIR LOCATION, so they are directly at your ear. It's really the same with any Comm System.
* The easiest way to do this, is to put the helmet on, stand in front of a mirror, and mark the location of your eardrums on the outside of the helmet with a fingernail sized piece of masking tape. Then move the speakers to align, and be centered on the tape. This will vastly improve the sound quality.

Overall: Happy with the purchase, and for ME, the C4 is a keeper.

Disappointed in noise levels
Pros:
Fit is much better than the C3 pro
Comes with pin lock installed
Improved airflow

Cons:
Noise levels are very high. C3 Pro is much quieter. My RF 1200 is much quieter.

I ride a Naked Harley Road King. So quietness in the wind was the most important feature I was looking for.
I find it hard to believe this helmet is rated at 82 Db.
I'll stick with my Shoei rf1200 for safety and my C3 Pro for quietness

disappointed
Very little padding in the large version of this helmet. Very comfortable for about an hour....after an hour, feels like metal spikes digging into my skull. Tried the XL before buying but it was too big.
Thinking they need another shell size for L & XL. Makes me wonder who tests this stuff for them.

Also very loud on a naked bike with clean air.

This is my third Schuberth helmet and definitely my last. They won't be getting any more $$$ from me.

Good helmet but not worth the money
Excellent helmet on first sight. I got Bluetooth that works very well inside.
Everything looked perfect until I went on a long 1800 km drive.
When it is raining and cold front button stops working until it is dried, so cold air is getting in your face and you cannot drive!!!
Pinlock is not so good at cold time because it get foggy and plastic on visor in upper part gets scratches when opening and closing only after a month use !!!

All in all I like this helmet but using it on rain and cold weather is not possible. Only maybe for a passenger but why to pay that amount then?

Now I am seeding it back to repair it but I have to wait for a month and got some cheep one in between wish is also not good !

I feel disappointed
I feel disappointed. I was looking for a quiet helmet, one inside wind noise where very low. This is NOT the helmet. At 60-70 MPH wind noise is simply terrible. Almost the same than in my old Nolan 104 EVO. But it cost a lot more!

All other is great, comfort, style, etc.

But if you are looking for a quiet helmet, this is NOT your choise.

Pricey, but had all of the features I was looking for
I replaced my Simpson Ghost Bandit (which was damaged in a wreck) with the C4 paired with an SC1 advanced comms unit. Intent was to get a quality helmet with DOT / ECE rating, address a number of issues observed with the Simpson (wind noise, separate comms unit, discomfort on long rides, airflow).

Fit and finish of the C4 is like nothing I've experienced before. It's well put together, and has features that clearly had the rider in mind when assembled. The field of vision is super wide, the visor can be raised / lowered with either hand, anti-fog built-in, simple / smooth sunglass visor raising and lowering, comfortable padding, and integrated comms.

The real game changer here is the integrated earpieces and mic, which can be utilized by purchasing the SC1. It's an expensive bundle, but you really can't lose with a Schuberth and Sena partnership - the two best companies in the industry for their respective products. Paired the comms unit with my H-D WHIM bluetooth module and it works as well or better than my 20S.

Below average - 189cm - R1200GS, original windscreen
Cheaper alternatives are better regarding noise and comfort with that setup, like Schubert C2, SHOEI NXR (RF-1200), HJC RPHA 11. Ventilation and vision are great. Top quality inner and out. After an hour it hurts.

Best helmet and intercom combo I've owned
I've owned three Shoei and two Arai helmets and loved them, but this one is by far the best. The C4 had a rocky launch for sure. Issues with fogging up and the SC1 intercom, etc.

As far as the fogging issue, Schuberth wanted no ocular distortion so they tried to build there own pinlock like solution. It met that objective, but failed at stopping fog. They have since partnered with pilnlock again, BUT still managed to remove the normal distortion seen in other helmets. The result is the best shield I've ever used in a motorcycle helmet. Super wide view with zero fog and no ocular distortion.

The second big gripe was the integrated comm. Happy to report that they've finally updated the firmware a second time which resolved all of the same issues as 1.1 but also fixed the low volume issue in addition. I'm able to listen to audiobooks and podcasts at 70mph with ear plugs now.

So, if either of these issues were holding you back then wait no longer. I absolutely love this helmet. The fit is a slightly longer oval, but should first intermediate just fine. I found that the fit is just a tad smaller than Arai, so I swapped out the headliner for a slightly bigger one after feeling the burn in the forehead (not pressure point, just overall to tight across the entire forehead).

Hopefully this is helpful!

Because of Schubert's reputation for quality build and quietness. I'm also told the ventilation will be better in the C4 vs the C3Pro. Most importantly, I really like the Sena-Schuberth SC1 integration.

Giles C on Nov 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The C4 (size M) is labeled at 1660g, while the C3 Pro (size M) is at 1570g.
Noise level seems to be at least the same as in the C3 Pro (which is very good), while the ventilation has improved.

Can you use the built in microphone and speakers without buying the communication kit?
Glenn H on Nov 13, 2016

Will there be a c4 pro ?

BEST ANSWER: Let's hope not; that would mean there are things about this that need to be fixed.
Will the built in speakers and mic work with other communication systems? Or did they design this helmet so you are limited to only their SC1? Which btw lacks a ton of the features of the newer Cardo systems.
David G on Jan 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The SC1 system that will be used in the C4 is made by Sena (although branded by Schuberth.) I have downloaded the new SC1 manual and it is authored by Sena. The system pairs, intercoms, plays music and provides phone capability exactly like Sena systems because IT IS a Sena system. (Don't confuse the new SC1 with previous Schuberth proprietary BT systems.) This is a first and joint venture by them with Sena. You can read about it at both the Sena and Schuberth websites.

Greig M on Jan 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It will not. The system is now made by Sena; previously Cardo made them.
