Great idea but didn't last one trip
I bought this for my 2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer. I liked the smaller size of my aftermarket tank bag, but didn't want the magnets to scratch the black paint. I cleaned the surfaces with alcohol, let dry, cut to size, then applied. Installation was great, with no bubbles that couldn't get worked out with your fingers. However, on my first road trip, the plastic started to bubble and lift. I pressed firmly to re-apply with no success. The adhesive is too low tack to obtain a solid, long term grip. I kept it on to ensure I could get home without scratching my tank, but the included pictures shows the results of it's performance...or lack thereof.

This might have worked better if it was shipped in a way that it could be trimmed to fit. It was folded up and had pulled away from the backing exposing it to dust and debris. It seemed thick enough to protect my tank if it was not "damaged".

I thought I would give it a try since I was out of 3m protective tape and it's not what I expected. Very thin, cheap in appearance and texture. Don't waste your money! Stick with 3m tape

I'm using this under my saddle bag strap to protect the paint. Love the fact is does NOT use a sticky glue backing. It sticks because its soft thick vinyl. Can be removed and re-positioned easily.

Love this product because it creates a protective layer against anything that can rub paint. Be it on the tank or when using soft SADDLE luggage on my KLR 650, it prevents scratches on the paint. I even use it when I route my heated vest wiring up along the body panels to my torso. If i didn't, the power cord would scuff the panels. Additionally, the product is clear to blend in with any color and thick enough not to wear down easy. Anytime I need to protect my painted surfaces, I use Saddleman protective tape for the job and get custom results when I trim to size.
